I completely agree with this thread. This is a bad bug fixing strategy for either open/closed source. It still pains me that the management where I used to work, cared more about these vanity metrics than the actual project quality.
Stale bots have huge downsides:
1. It’s disrespectful to users who spent time reporting issues (especially if they invested time in making good reports, reduced test cases…).
2. Users searching for issues won’t find automatically closed issues, and will create more duplicates.
