October Progress on Save File Issues

Sul Sul Simmers,

In August, we shared our commitment to investigating concerns around save file corruption. Today, we’re updating you on the progress our dedicated team has made and the current status of our save file investigations.

From attempting to reproduce the issues reported by players both with and without mods, we've identified the following issues as strong leads.

Scratch Files - These are important but temporary files the game relies on, and reports suggest they may be disappearing or getting deleted, which could trigger corruption.

Lot Data Issues - We’ve reproduced cases internally of endless loading/white screens linked to certain build behaviors, such as super-stuffed Lots, with and without mods.

Additional areas of focus for the team can be found in the full update, available on the EA Forums.

Our Next Steps:

We’re continuing to test venue & lot type data transfer across saves.

We’re deepening our investigation into scratch file deletion and common external programs.

We’re exploring historical cases of save bloat (like issues in San Myshuno) to understand potential connections.

We’re removing the Residential Rental Unit cheat, bb.increaserentalunitcap, in an upcoming update, as a preventative step while broader fixes are developed. While we take player agency seriously, out of an abundance of caution, this step is needed to mitigate its potential risk.

While many players continue to play without interruption, we understand that experiencing these issues is frustrating, and we remain committed to making progress against them. We know how much your saves mean to you - they represent countless hours of creativity, storytelling, and play. Please continue to share reports with us, as each one brings us closer to understanding and resolving these issues.

We’ve committed to transparency, and while we don’t have all the answers yet, progress is being made every day. Thank you for your patience, your feedback, and your passion for The Sims.

What does “investigating” even mean when it never leads anywhere? Been hearing this for over a year. We deserve actual answers.
