COVID decisions supercharged all these trends. Teenagers often move as a pack. Northeast school administrators & pols genuflected to their NPR-listening nanny-state idiots, while Southern admins & govs reopened. Zoom/lockdown is no fun. Kids noticed & other kids have followed.

Regarding higher ed and the demographic cliff, it’s worth noting that population projections for each state are different. The South as a region is expected to see a 3% increase in high school graduates. New York is projected to see a 27% decline.
