#sales motion that simplifies. -Build your target list, and be 85-100% thorough in building it. Saves you time later. -Start with action, call your list once or twice through. Glean what you can from that. -If you get some meetings, great. If you get some engagement, retarget those individuals. Meanwhile, dial the list again to catch new people on the phone. -When retargeting, use AI to research your target contact and the company relative to issues your solution can solve. Review, identify talking points that could connect. Call them, email them until you discuss those things. -With retargeted prospects, if they are unresponsive after a call/email, then another call follow-up, then identify 3 contacts around their role/seniority that could also fit to have a conversation with you. Send the same email to each, and call alongside that. - With new prospects, keep hitting those lists till you process them completely. I've seen lists get new meetings every time they are dialed again. New contacts pick up that didn't before, the list gets smaller, you put deals in pipeline, disqualify contacts/companies, and identify follow-up targets. - As you prospect the first list you made, note industry/keyword filters that might further specify targets to improve future lists and prospecting effectiveness. - Repeat this process. If you do campaigns in email or social media, the same process applies. You had a bit of a eye-opener (and smackdown) last week when I re-posted a note from Jack Porter the Co-Founder of BirdDog who stated that bad data was the biggest BS in sales world and that any C- rep with an A+ list could beat any A+ rep with a C- list. It's 100% true. So today I want to show you what is possible with good contact data. Far too many startups and even established firms do not invest in good contact data. Even worse many Founders (far too many) don't care if the phone numbers don't work (they don't like being called) or if the contact data contains records relate to your ICP. As a Founder who wants to grow their sales team and their business, you should want to understand what is possible with good contact data. Below is a snapshot of my notebook from when I built a staggering $350m API SaaS funnel with excellent contact data from ZoomInfo. -The phone numbers worked -The cell phone numbers worked -The email addresses worked. Imagine if you will your team being able to prospect 4 hrs a day in two 2 hr blocks and reach out only to decision makers at your ICP target companies? Being able to create 3x, 5x 10x or 150x sales funnels for YOUR company. If you don't want to listen to your sales team or sales leader, maybe you should take some time to really reflect on the present state of your business, your sales pipeline and your current GTM plan and toolset. Constantly spinning through good sales people due to "poor" performance is a fallacy when your poor CRM data is the cause and the reason why your startup is not growing the way it should. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥. Yep, I said it. Every great product eventually attracts competition. And if it doesn’t, you probably don’t have product-market fit yet. When we started circuly almost six years ago, “𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭-𝐚𝐬-𝐚-𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞” was a niche within a niche. Now it’s a growing market with corporates, startups, and even hardware giants jumping in. Which is great. Because where there is movement, there is need. And who do those companies turn to when they start looking for a solution? Exactly. Here’s the controversial part: When a prospect mentions a competitor on a call, I don’t trash-talk them. I often tell the prospect, “You should absolutely check them out. Book a demo. Compare.” Two things usually happen: 1️⃣ They see what’s out there. 2️⃣ They come back faster than expected. Even if we are more expensive. Because when you experience the gap between good and great, the decision suddenly becomes very easy. For a while, some of our competitors have actually been our best 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬. We’ve had a 100% 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 with leads that came from them. Smaller companies test the market, go for the cheaper solution, and once their Proof of Concept works, they come back to us to scale it properly. That’s when it gets fun. And sometimes I even recommend a competitor myself. Because if their setup fits better, that’s the right choice for the customer. Honesty and solution-solving always win over talking someone into buying something that doesn’t fit. Competitors keep you sharp. They make the market bigger.
