I’m spending the 31st anniversary of craigslist explaining in the NYT when enough is enough, and to help folks who haven’t gotten so lucky. Indulge me… https://lnkd.in/gGryhemS About newspapers revenues and craigslist, fact checking: https://lnkd.in/gU_nsT-j
Great op-ed - thanks! Have you considered how you might donate craigslist to your foundation and create a philanthropic annuity for the future? Very aligned to what we're doing at Newman's Own Foundation through our 100% for Purpose® Club - see here + happy to chat! https://fortune.com/2025/12/07/newmans-own-ceo-how-to-give-away-your-company-like-yvon-chouinard-patagonia/
Thank you for this NYT opinion piece. I am flabbergasted by the billionaires who don’t donate huge sums of money and think their wealth reflects their brilliance, not the conditions and workers educated and built by the states? And who needs that many possessions? You have been such an incredible supporter of journalistic and other institutions. I hope your words influence others.
As the builder of the other tech company in the inner sunset — Extentech — we would bump into each other on the street occasionally… it was always so cool to walk past your office on 9th I popped in a couple times. Early 2000s were truly the innocent days of all of this, when we were just helping people connect, launching open source, and making life a little more efficient or convenient… right place right time.
Thank you, Craig, for sharing your wisdom - yes, wisdom - with a wide audience. Your approach to philanthropy reflects the same high level of integrity that guided the growth of Craigslist. You left money on the table (rather than optimizing the business to pull in the greatest possible personal haul) and continue to put your winnings to use for much more than your own benefit. Thank you for modeling an alternative way of leading in these times when so many are focused on accumulating and hoarding wealth.
Hi Craig—this year marks 35 years of the Home of the Brave Museum honoring our veterans. After the museum was lost during COVID, we’re rebuilding the mission in Colorado through our nonprofit foundation. We’d love to explore potential philanthropic alignment and share our campaign—video below; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjrVv3dHZT4
Grateful for your leadership and accountability. A huge thank you from veterans and the military community as a whole. Your support of Service to School during our earliest days meant we could build, test, and prove what was possible for vets in higher education. That kind of belief and understanding is especially meaningful for scrappy organizations who understand the problem set and need a champion, and we are forever appreciative!
What if...what if you taught a charity or for purpose profit org how to fish instead of giving them one fish? I think of all the brilliance you could mentor into people and move the needle way further and way longer. Just a thought to chew on. Its amazing to me what you did with literally no UI/UX by todays standards and word of mouth.
Craig Newmark - Would love your insight on the work a few world-leading academics at King's College London are spearheading with the mission to ensure everyone in the world has access to truthful, trusted knowledge.
Many wealthy are not counciled by their advisers enough about giving and percentages. Not a good enough excuse to not pony up for charity
Always grateful for your moral clarity, as ever. There's something profound in just telling the truth and reminding people that doing the right thing, the good thing, can be *obvious*. You're too kind to ever intentionally shame the bad actors, but hopefully the contrast between the incredible impact of your generosity and the brutal cost of their greed will make it easy for people to judge. History certainly will.
