AI could hold the key to earlier detection and treatment in dementia. Earlier this year Kneu Health and Alzheimer's Society, explored how that could work in practice with The Daily Mail. Earlier detection means earlier intervention, better tools mean better outcomes, and the innovations being developed right now could change the prognosis and outlook for millions of patients and families. A huge part of our purpose, as the home of healthtech, is being able to bring together researchers, clinicians, innovators and funders working on the hardest problems in healthcare, to scale the impact of innovation even faster, and it's always exciting to see those worlds come together in Harley Street Health District. Last Friday, Jason Llewellyn, Business Development Manager, had the opportunity to visit the Alzheimer’s Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute for a behind-the-scenes lab tour! 🔬 The visit offered an insight into the research taking place to better understand dementia and develop new treatments that could make a real difference to people living with the condition. It was particularly meaningful for Jason to see the expertise, dedication and research that goes into developing potential treatments, long before they reach clinical trials. At Oxford Aunts, we see every day the impact dementia can have on individuals and their families. Attending Walking the Talk for Dementia (WTD) in 2025 (and 2026) has certainly been life-changing for me ✨ - but how exactly? 📝 In this qualitative study, we explored the impact of WTD on the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of international early- and mid-career professionals (EMCPs). Next to an enhanced engagement with people living with dementia and care partners and better understanding of lived experience, EMCPs also identified strategies for a dementia-friendly future, including meaningful involvement of people with lived experience, culturally sensitive practices, and strengthened capacity-building and collaboration. 💡 WTD offers a unique experience for EMCPs to deepen one's understanding beyond clinical frameworks and research settings, combat stigma, and fosters collaborative actions. “Temporal aspects of walking in the neighbourhood for people living with dementia” by Dr. Habib Chaudhury, Shawna Hopper, Joey Wong, Dr. Kishore Seetharaman, Dr. Lillian Hung, Caralyn Randa-Beaulieu, and Dr. Ji Young Cho, now published in Social Science & Medicine! The study looks at how neighbourhood walks change over time for people living with dementia and how walking connects to memory, identity, and belonging. Through sit-down and walk-along interviews with 26 people living with dementia in Metro Vancouver, we found that walking is about much more than getting from one place to another. Familiar places can bring comfort, joy, connection to the past, while changes in health, memory, and neighbourhood environments can affect how and where people walk. Last week we launched the findings of NAA’s inaugural Neuro Survey (https://lnkd.in/gA_EXsWj) at our Neuro Summit in Canberra, adding powerful new evidence to the case for a coordinated for a National Action Plan for Neurological Conditions. Among the 3805 respondents, 1 in 2 reported difficulty accessing neurological care; nearly 1 in 3 waited more than four years for a diagnosis; almost half delayed or skipped care because of cost; only 4 in 10 describe their care as coordinated Together, these findings paint a concerning picture of a healthcare system struggling to meet the needs of people with neurological and neuromuscular conditions, and the need for coordinated national action to ensure systemic change. We are very grateful to the organisations whose generous support made this important initiative possible.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐳𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭. A new study in Nature Portfolio (npj) Digital Medicine found that short memory tests people take on their own phones at home can pick up cognitive decline over about 30 weeks in early Alzheimer’s, giving researchers a way to measure change over a much shorter period than conventional assessments that may only happen once or twice a year. The research covers 202 adults aged 52 to 85 across Germany and the US, led by researchers from German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and built on neotiv’s technology. This is why we invested in neotiv. Today’s Alzheimer’s drugs can slow the disease, but they can’t undo it. Catching it early is what gives patients the best chance of receiving treatment while it can still make a difference. A reliable test someone can do from home and repeat regularly could help close one of the biggest gaps in the current care pathway.
