Position Overview
The Senior Manager, Global Community plays a central role in bringing The Moth storytelling mission to communities around the world. Reporting to the CEO on an interim basis, this position manages the day-to-day execution of workshops, events, and community-building initiatives across The Moth’s global program, and partners closely with the Development team to support grant proposals, budget tracking, and reporting.
This role blends project management, relationship building, and hands-on program delivery. The ideal candidate is a skilled organizer who can juggle multiple concurrent initiatives, build trusted relationships with instructors, producers, and community partners, and bring both structure and creativity to programs that reach hundreds of storytellers globally.
This is a strong fit for someone who wants to grow in broader strategic and supervisory responsibility over time, working closely with leadership to shape the department’s direction.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Program Design
- Design, manage, staff, and implement Global initiatives aligned with The Moth’s mission
- Plan yearly Global activities (workshops, private events, conferences), ensuring that all grant requirements are met
- Collaborate with The Moth's Executive Producer and VP of Marketing & Communications to establish a framework for tracking impact and identifying the best ways to showcase The Moth's Global work
Relationship Building
- Effectively and regularly communicate Global activities, progress, and impact with Foundations and stakeholders
- Work with Global staff to design virtual and in-person community building opportunities for 1000+ global graduates
- Travel nationally and internationally as needed to Foundation headquarters, Moth workshops and events
- Work with The Moth’s Development team to research and approach new funding opportunities
- Manage external communications and represent the organization at select events as needed, in partnership with Marketing & Communications
- Develop and grow junior staff, providing regular coaching and feedback, setting clear goals, and identifying opportunities for them to build new skills
Grant and Project Management
- Set and communicate expectations, track progress, set deadlines, manage resources to help the department achieve goals
- Supervise at least one (1) full-time staff and coordinate a roster of freelance regional instructors and producers
- Oversee full grant lifecycle execution, partnering with the Development team on proposal content, budget narratives, and reporting
- Work with The Moth Development department to create grant proposals and reports on program activities, expenditures and development
- Oversee the planning and execution of projects and events
- Manage program-level budgets and track expenses; support the Global program budget planning
- Manage timelines, priorities and resources in a fast paced, mission based environment
- Manage flow of Global content (audio, video, photo, social/digital assets)
- Develop connections and network in communities to accomplish project goals
Experience
- 5-7 years experience executing high-level projects for foundations/nonprofit organizations
- 3+ years of direct people management experience
- Experience managing larger program budgets (typically $1M)
- Bachelor's degree; graduate work in related field desirable
- Impeccable communication and organizational skills
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a wide range of individuals
- Ability to delegate tasks, give clear instructions and motivate groups
- A self-starter mentality, who thrives in working in a fast paced environment
- Demonstrated poise, sound judgment, and clear, confident communication when representing the organization to donors, board members, and other high-profile stakeholders
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed, including navigating event/workshop venues that may involve standing for extended periods, assisting with event setup/breakdown, and occasional evening or weekend work tied to live programming. Compensation: $85,000 - $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience. The Moth offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; employer-sponsored retirement plan; generous paid time off and holidays; paid family and medical leave; commuter benefits.
