The Director, Software Engineering leads the execution and delivery of complex software and AI/ML systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and alignment with strategic objectives. This role oversees the full development lifecycle across multiple teams, driving technical excellence through DevOps practices, cloud cost optimization, and system health monitoring. The position fosters high-performing teams through mentorship and collaboration, manages cross-functional dependencies, and champions continuous improvement. By integrating innovative technologies and aligning roadmaps with business priorities, the Director ensures impactful solutions that support growth and operational efficiency within Walmart’s technology ecosystem.

What you'll do...About the team:

The team leads the design and delivery of advanced software and AI-driven systems, ensuring scalable, reliable solutions aligned with strategic objectives. They oversee the full development lifecycle, including architecture, deployment, and cloud cost management, while coordinating across multiple products and stakeholders. Focused on technical excellence and continuous improvement, the team integrates AI agents and innovative technologies to enhance system performance. With strong project and capacity management, they drive milestone achievement and operational efficiency. This group is dedicated to producing high-quality software products that support business growth and technological advancement within the Agentic Commerce - Sparky BackEnd domain.

What you'll do:

• Lead execution of complex software, data, and ML systems ensuring reliability, scalability, and integration across platforms.
• Oversee full software development lifecycle, championing DevOps practices and system health monitoring to optimize performance.
• Collaborate with product and data teams to deliver AI/ML-enabled features and agentic systems for automation and decision support.
• Manage engineering capacity, backlog prioritization, and cloud cost optimization to enhance velocity and reduce operational overhead.
• Build and mentor high-performing teams, fostering professional growth and succession planning aligned with organizational goals.
• Coordinate cross-functional efforts to align roadmaps, milestones, and stakeholder expectations.
• Drive continuous improvement through innovation, risk mitigation, and effective technical decision-making.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

3 years' supervisory experience.
