Susan A. Lumb reposted thisSusan A. Lumb reposted thisYou don’t even realize it - but before you get out of bed, you’ve already made a choice that can hijack your entire day. You reached for your phone. I get it… You want to stay informed. You need to check that email. You say you’re just going to scroll for a little bit. But it only takes 30 seconds for your nervous system to light up, your dopamine to drain, and now you’re carrying the weight of the world… all while still being in your pajamas. Harvard-trained psychiatrist Dr. Alok Kanojia MD MPH says your brain is like a lemon filled with dopamine, and scrolling as soon as you wake up is a "hard squeeze” that drains the juice you need for the rest of the day. That tiny micro choice to grab your phone first thing in the morning? It burns the exact mental fuel you need to feel focused, motivated, and patient all day long. By the end of this episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, you’ll know exactly what to do whenever you need a reset - from the moment you wake up, throughout the day when your patience and energy wear thin, to bedtime when your brain won’t shut off. 🎧 “Try It For 1 Day: 4 Small Choices That Make a Surprisingly Huge Difference” - tune in now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube - search ‘The Mel Robbins Podcast Small Choices.’ I’ll also link it in the comments.

Susan A. Lumb reposted thisSusan A. Lumb reposted thisSome days start with a sputter rather than a roar - you wake up late, your inbox is chaos, traffic is worse than usual, your boss is already in one of their “moods.” And before you know it, your brain has decided: “Today is going to be a bad day.” But the truth is - the chaotic inbox, heavy traffic, and moody boss aren’t what will make your day bad. A bad day usually starts with a micro choice - the moment you decide what the story of your day is going to be. Your brain is constantly looking for evidence to prove you right. So if you decide it’s going to be a bad day, it’ll find proof everywhere. But you can flip the script in seconds. On your way into the office, or as you’re sifting through your inbox in the morning, say to yourself: “Today is going to be a good day.” Prime your brain to look for THAT proof. Things might still go wrong. The day might still feel stressful. But you get to choose your mindset. So bring the good energy. Bring the positive attitude. Bring the boundaries so the stupid stuff doesn’t drain you. That one tiny decision can change how you show up to every meeting, conversation, and challenge today. It can change the energy you come home with at the end of the day. It can be the difference between going to bed feeling bitter and drained, and going to bed feeling excited to wake up tomorrow. There are 3 other powerful micro choices that can completely change how your day goes. I walk you through them in one of the newest episodes of The Mel Robbins Podcast: “Try It For 1 Day: 4 Small Choices That Make a Surprisingly Huge Difference” - I’ll link it in the comments.

Susan A. Lumb reposted thisSusan A. Lumb reposted thisYou’re wasting an enormous amount of energy trying to make everyone else understand your choices. Your career decisions. Your goals. The risks you’re taking. The changes you’re making in your life. You explain it one way, then another - hoping that if you just say it right, people will finally get it. And a lot of the time, the people who question your changes the most are the people closest to you. Not because they don’t love you, but because they’re trying to make sense of your choices through THEIR lens - their fears, their experiences, their limits. It’s okay to want them to understand. It hurts when they don’t! That’s why you explain and explain and explain your decision - because you’re trying to alleviate the pain you feel when someone questions, judges, or criticizes you. Because it feels like rejection. But you’re not responsible for managing their understanding. The only person your decisions need to make sense to is you. So if you’re building something new, pivoting in your career, taking a leap, or choosing a path that doesn’t look like everyone else’s… Stop spending your energy explaining your life, and put that energy into living it.

Susan A. Lumb reposted thisSusan A. Lumb reposted thisWhat if your next career move wasn’t a promotion… but ownership? At a certain point in your career, you realize you bring more than experience to the table. You bring perspective. You see the leadership gaps. You understand the hiring missteps. You know the difference one exceptional person can make inside an organization. What if you could build a business around that insight? Executive recruiting at its best isn’t transactional — it’s influential. It’s partnering with companies at pivotal moments, guiding critical hiring decisions, and helping shape the future of teams and organizations. At Goodwin Recruiting, we partner with experienced professionals who are ready to: ✅ Own their time and results ✅ Build long-term client relationships ✅ Create meaningful impact through hiring ✅ Earn based on performance — not tenure If you’ve ever thought about building something of your own — this may be the next step. Susan A. Lumb reposted thisSusan A. Lumb reposted thisLet this be your permission slip today. Stop trying to prove your worth to people who are never going to honor it, nevermind recognize it; people who benefit from your self-doubt will never validate you. Stop trying to rescue grown adults from their own problems; they need to figure it out for themselves. Stop trying to make people understand your choices; they’re not you, so they don’t need to understand. Stop trying to manage everyone else’s emotions; you don’t need to sacrifice your energy to keep the peace. When you stop taking responsibility for stuff that isn’t yours to carry, something powerful happens: You get your power back. You get more confident. And you become the most aligned version of yourself.

Susan A. Lumb reposted thisSusan A. Lumb reposted thisIf you go to bed every night feeling like you didn’t do enough, you need to hear this. You are doing more than you realize. You’re showing up. You’re handling what’s in front of you. Responding to emails, managing your emotions, taking care of people, and getting through the day - even when it’s hard. But here’s the problem: If you don’t stop to acknowledge what you’re doing right, your brain doesn’t register it at all. It just keeps moving the goalposts, convincing you that nothing you do is enough. In this episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, I’m sharing 5 simple, science-backed ways to create quick wins and real momentum - one tiny step at a time. They’re small moves that will make a huge difference - helping you go from overwhelmed and scattered to clear, grounded, and back in control. If you’ve been stuck in a funk, feeling behind, procrastinating more than usual, or letting life stack up on top of you, this is a reset that will bring you back to yourself. “The 24-Hour Turnaround to Get Your Life Back on Track” - listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube - search ‘The Mel Robbins Podcast 24-Hour Turnaround.’ I’ll also link it in the comments.

Susan A. Lumb reacted on thisSusan A. Lumb reacted on thisEleven years ago, I walked into Goodwin Recruiting with zero recruiting experience. Like many in this business, I had drive—but no roadmap. That’s where Marcel Keunzler stepped in. Marcel was my Regional Director, and quite simply, without him, I wouldn’t have made it in this industry. He was relentless about doing things the right way—the Goodwin way. Process mattered. Discipline mattered. Standards mattered. And Marcel never compromised on any of it. But what set him apart wasn’t just his expectations—it was his accessibility. No matter how busy he was, he always made time. Always answered the call. Always showed up when it mattered. That combination—high standards and genuine support—is rare. As Marcel moves on, this is one of those moments where you don’t just lose a leader—you lose someone truly irreplaceable. My respect and appreciation for him are immense. I’m grateful for the impact he’s had on my career and countless others. Wishing you continued success, Marcel—you’ve more than earned it.

Susan A. Lumb reacted on thisSusan A. Lumb reacted on thisDon’t let your ambition crowd out all the other stuff that lights you up - your loved ones, your health, your unique interests and hobbies that don’t “go anywhere.” Relentlessly chasing achievement is great until too much time goes by and you realize… You can’t remember the last time you spent uninterrupted, quality time with your partner. You can’t remember the last time you read a book not for work, not for learning, but for fun. You can’t remember the last time you intentionally tended to your mental or physical health. When’s the last time you enjoyed “wasting” time? I’m not suggesting you shrink your goals, ambition, or dreams. I worked extremely hard for my career - it’s a huge, important, and beautiful part of my life! I’m suggesting you have some boundaries. I do not check my work email on the weekends. I don’t pick up my phone in the morning until I’ve walked the dogs and drank water. I’m intentional about spending quality time with my husband and three kids. And as much as I can, I leave room for learning about things that interest me - like this fiction writing class I’m taking right now! Because the peace, connection, love, and joy that you get from those things is what success is supposed to support - not replace.
