Scott Plumstead liked thisWhen 2021 finally rolled around, and it became clear that the pandemic was grinding towards its end, the business of building Coda Search│Staffing was back on. But we needed to build it faster, and not just faster, but by expanding our talent pool to junior candidates who needed to be trained by a world class trainer who has been in the trenches. Where would I find that person? Meeting Amy Healey was like a cosmic event. Getting to know her was like catching up with an old friend. Simple and easy. Since then her contributions to building our team, and training our people, go without saying. But to me personally she has been a trusted partner, a sounding board, someone whose advice I lean on and a friend. Quite frankly it is hard to remember Coda without her. Amy, congratulations on 5 successful years and I look forward to all the building left to do!Scott Plumstead liked thisToday we celebrate five years of Amy Healey at Coda — and honestly, where do we even begin? As our VP of People and Development, Amy is not just a colleague — she is a cornerstone of our culture. For some of us, she is quite literally the reason we chose Coda. Her infectious personality has a way of making everyone around her feel seen, valued, and genuinely excited to show up every day. And if you have ever attended one of Amy's trainings, you already know — come prepared, come engaged, and whatever you do, do not show up late. Her sessions are dynamic, interactive, and demand your full presence. She does not just train people, she challenges them, energizes them, and leaves them better than she found them. Off the clock, Amy is just as iconic. She is a devoted Bruce Springsteen fan, a very proud Swiftie, and if you really want to win her over, hand her a Bacardi and diet coke. Five years of Amy Healey at Coda means five years of a stronger culture, deeper connections, and a team that is better for having her in it. Here's to you, Amy — thank you for everything you bring to this company every single day. We are so lucky to have you! Now tell us — how has Amy impacted you and your career? 10 Years of PACK EXPO East: Here’s what we learned. PACK EXPO East 2026 just wrapped up its 10th-anniversary show, and the insights were world-class. If you couldn't make it to Philly, here are the 5 biggest trends driving our industry right now: 1️⃣ #Automation is the "Bottleneck Breaker": From startups to giants like Whole Foods, the shift from manual to automated processes is no longer optional—it’s the priority for 2026. 2️⃣ The "Local" Advantage: Regional shows are thriving because they allow entire engineering and production teams to attend without major facility downtime. 3️⃣ 2D Barcodes are Coming: The GS1 Sunrise 2027 deadline is a hot topic. Brands are already pivoting to single-barcode solutions for tracking and anti-counterfeiting. 4️⃣ Sustainability is Technical: It’s not just about "green" labels; it’s about how materials and automation work together to meet EPR regulations. 5️⃣ Small Business Support: New features like the SMB FastTrack are making high-tech robotics accessible for small-batch facilities. It’s clear the industry is ready to invest. Next stop: Chicago for PACK EXPO International! #SupplyChain #Manufacturing #Sustainability #PackExpo #Robotics Capstone Search Advisors

Recently, a major apparel brand had to destroy over $300k worth of inventory. Not because of demand. Not because of shipping delays. Not even because of tariffs. Because of a preventable quality issue. One material wasn’t tested properly. Production continued anyway. The defect spread across every unit. The entire batch failed safety compliance. Here’s the scary part: It only takes ONE quality miss to wipe out a quarter’s profit. And this isn’t rare. • 1 product recall can cost $10M+ • 1% increase in return rate = millions lost in margin • 1 bad review can kill LTV Founders worry about ads, cash flow, and sourcing… But quality control is the real profit protector. This week, I’m breaking down: ✅ Why QC isn’t inspection — it’s system design ✅ The hidden cost of poor quality most brands ignore ✅ How to prevent issues before production even starts ✅ How the best brands scale with consistent quality Because quality isn’t an afterthought. It’s a competitive advantage.

The packaging companies winning right now are not hiring “salespeople.” They’re hiring technical problem solvers who can sell. I heard this again yesterday from an industry leader: “I don’t want a used-car salesperson. I want someone who understands the technical aspects of packaging and can ask the right questions.” Why? Because customers don’t need more product pitches. They need someone who understands: • film structures • production limitations • supply chain risks • performance requirements When a salesperson can speak that language, the conversation shifts from price → solutions. And that’s where the real business gets won.

CEOs, Presidents, VPs, GMs, Managers of plastics companies....listen up! If you’re not regularly giving genuine compliments to employees who are doing a good job, you’re making a mistake. Here’s why. When I place someone with a company, I always follow up. The hiring manager will tell me: “Things are great. We love this person. They’ve added so much value.” Then I call the candidate and ask how it’s going. Their response? “I think it’s going OK, but I’m not sure. I think I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing.” They had no idea their boss felt that way. So I end up being the messenger by sharing positive feedback that should have been coming from their manager all along. Don’t make that mistake. Don’t hold back praise until there’s a problem. Your employees need to know when they’re on the right track. That simple recognition goes a long way toward keeping them happy and keeping them around.

PACK EXPO EAST 2026 did not disappoint. Back in Philadelphia for its 10th year, the show brought together more than 10,000 packaging and processing professionals (7,300 attendees and 2,700 exhibitors) for three high-energy days. It was great reconnecting with clients, candidates, peers and friends. A few themes were clear: 🔹 Automation isn’t optional anymore – its essential. Manual processes are bottlenecks. Investment in robotics, AI, and smarter systems integration is accelerating. 🔹 Smart manufacturing is happening now. Connectivity, real-time data, and digital tools are moving from pilot to plant-wide implementation. 🔹 Sustainability is shaping capital decisions. EPR regulations, material reduction, and circular design are forcing structural change. Recyclability, lightweighting, and waste reduction are business priorities — not marketing slogans. 🔹 Top talent is the differentiator. Automation, AI, and digital transformation require a new kind of leadership. Operators who understand data. Engineers with commercial acumen. Leaders who can drive change and build strong, safety-focused cultures. Demand for this talent is only increasing. The takeaway? This industry isn’t slowing down — it’s modernizing quickly. Sustainability, innovation, and workforce capability are at the center of that evolution. PACK EXPO remains one of the best real-time indicators of where packaging and processing are headed next. The JM Search team is already looking ahead to PACK EXPO INTERNATIONAL this October — and we’ll once again be hosting the best networking event at show – The Night at the Drake. Stay tuned for details.
