Brad Reimer posted thisI’m stepping into a new role as Chief Technology and Digital Officer at Sanford Health. This isn’t a title change for the sake of a title. It reflects a deliberate shift in focus—from running technology to transforming how technology and digital capabilities drive care, access, scale, and differentiation in rural healthcare. In this role, my priorities are clear: - Advancing digital and AI-enabled care in ways that meaningfully improve patient and clinician experience - Accelerating innovation while maintaining enterprise discipline and trust - Ensuring technology investments are tightly aligned to mission, strategy, and measurable outcomes - Building out a Forward Deployed Engineering model, leveraging Agentic platforms to drive value at pace and scale I’m grateful for the leadership, teams, and partners who’ve helped pave the path so far and now shape this transformation—and for an organization willing to rethink operating models and invest forward as healthcare itself continues to change. There’s a lot of work ahead. This will be fun.

Brad Reimer reposted thisBrad Reimer reposted thisI’m proud to share this Newsweek story highlighting the extraordinary commitment of our Sanford Health team—and the innovative ways we’re bringing care to patients who need it most. Every Wednesday, Dr. Michael McNamara, one of our maternal-fetal medicine specialists, doesn’t drive to work—he flies. Through fog, snow and long days, he and his team travel hundreds of miles to ensure women with high-risk pregnancies across South Dakota can receive expert care close to home. This is what rural health care looks like at its best: meeting patients where they are, using creativity and compassion to overcome distance, and putting people before convenience. At a time when specialists are in short supply nationwide, Dr. McNamara’s dedication reflects the heart of Sanford Health’s mission—to care, comfort and cure, no matter the geography. Thank you to Newsweek for telling this important story, and thank you to Dr. McNamara and all our caregivers who go the extra mile—sometimes literally—to serve our communities. Brad Reimer posted thisTomorrow, I will be joining fellow digital health leaders in Washington, DC for the HealthLeaders Exchange - Chief Digital Executive Exchange. I am honored to sit on the Editorial Panel, “CIOs as Strategic Architects: Expanding the Leadership Mandate Beyond IT,” alongside colleagues who are shaping the future of healthcare. The CIO and other related roles have evolved far beyond technology expertise and implementation. Today, technology leadership is truly about being a strategic partner—consultative, deeply entrenched in operations, and focused on driving real change and growth. The pace and scale of transformation in healthcare is unlike anything I have seen before. We are not just implementing tech; we are guiding organizations through paradigm shifts, helping our peers distinguish between “flash” and “substance,” and championing organizational change at the enterprise level. For rural health systems like Sanford Health , the challenges are real—but the opportunities are even greater. We are leveraging digital innovation to expand access for patients, improve quality, and ensure sustainability of rural health across our 7-state footprint, while improving the way we operate as a fully integrated system. It is a fun time to be in healthcare.

Brad Reimer shared thisHow does Sanford Health make smart investments in technology when there are financial headwinds? We make sure they align strategically, improve patient outcomes and quality, bridge access gaps, drive down costs, build sustainability and improve the experience for our care givers. The more of those you can check off, the better. It’s about driving the Mission Case alongside the Business Case. I look forward to discussing this deeper with Alexis Kayser, healthcare editor for Newsweek in a few days.Health care's tech motto? Brad Reimer shared thisI’m excited to participate in the Newsweek Digital Healthcare Forum (https://lnkd.in/gVSrC5dc) next week. The agenda is packed full of great topics and participants. I’ll be representing Sanford Health and rural healthcare on a panel discussing The Business Case for Tech and Innovation, moderated by Alexis Kayser, healthcare editor at Newsweek. There is a collision between how fast digital and AI are advancing and tight margins and financial headwinds in healthcare. The two combined are difficult to navigate. We will discuss the importance of smart, targeted and strategic investments, how to build the business case or “mission case,” and how important it is to lean-forward into healthcare model transformation, especially in rural America where staffing challenges, slim margins and patient access are more pronounced. Despite the challenges and headwinds, this is an exciting time in healthcare seeing how cutting-edge technologies are transforming the industry, and more importantly improving care, comfort and cures for our patients. #SanfordHealth #MissionCase #AI #Digital #RuralHealthcare #InnovationBrad Reimer shared thisBrad Reimer, senior vice president and chief information officer, will be a featured speaker at the Newsweek Digital Health Care Forum next week. Brad Reimer liked thisNurses are the largest clinical workforce in inpatient care, and yet so little investment in AI is focused on enabling the critical work that they do. If anything, we've settled for shoehorning technology designed for someone else into the nursing workflow—and the results have been mixed at best. After spending thousands of hours with nurses on the front lines, one thing became clear: nurses aren't struggling with a lack of information—they're drowning in it. Dozens of notes, conflicting updates, scattered results, all while managing some of the most complex patients in the hospital. The EHR was never designed to help them synthesize all of that in real time. So at Ambience Healthcare, we decided to build something that is. Today we're launching Chart Chat for Nursing—the first EHR-integrated conversational AI tool built for inpatient nursing workflows. Chart Chat targets that upstream moment: helping nurses cut through the EHR maze so they can assemble a coherent clinical picture without the cognitive tax. It's now live at Cleveland Clinic, and it's been incredible to witness the outpouring of sheer joy and love for the technology. This is just the beginning. If you're a nurse—I'd love to hear what else we should be building for you.Brad Reimer liked this📣 Introducing Chart Chat for Nursing, the first EHR-integrated conversational AI tool built specifically for inpatient nurses. Developed in close partnership with frontline nurses and nursing informatics teams, Chart Chat for Nursing lets nurses ask plain-language questions about their patients and get instant, citation-backed answers pulled directly from the chart in seconds. Cleveland Clinic, one of the nation's most recognized health systems, is already piloting this technology. We're thrilled to start rolling out Chart Chat for Nursing with leading academic medical centers and health systems nationwide. We anchor on the fundamental belief that when employees feel valued and listened to, it improves care for the communities we serve. The list includes health systems and companies that are setting the standard to be an exceptional workplace in 2026 by investing deeply in their people, offering robust benefits, meaningful opportunities for professional and personal development, inclusive environments where employees feel valued, mission-driven work, and resources that support true work-life balance. Sanford Health is the only health system in South Dakota included on this list and only one of two included from North Dakota and Minnesota. “It is an honor for our health system to be named one of the best places to work in health care for a fourth consecutive year,” said Bill Gassen, president and CEO of Sanford Health. “This recognition reflects the incredible dedication of our employees who live out our mission to care, comfort and cure every day. From my early days registering patients in the Emergency Room as a Junior at Dakota Wesleyan University to now leading one of the largest billing operations in the upper Midwest, I am filled with a sense of pride and gratitude. This week, at our Sanford Annual Meeting, I was truly moved to receive the inaugural Innovation Champion of the Year award, a testament to the tireless efforts of my team and the leadership that has supported me every step of the way. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead over 4,000 dedicated healthcare professionals in the revenue cycle and to work alongside exceptional leaders who inspire me daily. This recognition is not just a personal achievement, but a celebration of our collective passion for innovation and excellence. Thank you, Sanford, and to my Revenue Cycle Leadership team, for your unwavering support and collaboration – it is an honor to work alongside each and every one of you! We may have flown under the radar in the past, but today, it's a privilege to be recognized and to shine a light on the outstanding work that we do. 🙂

Brad Reimer liked thisBrad Reimer liked thisThis week we kicked off the next milestone in a multi-year integration between health systems, and that means it’s “all-hands-on-deck” time. Today was especially meaningful for me because I had the chance to work alongside some familiar faces: one of my original mentors from my early days at Marshfield Clinic and my first boss. It felt a little like old times as we stepped out of our usual roles to support the great work so many team members around us have been preparing over the past several months. Working together again was a delight and brought back memories…from rolling out chartless in the early 2000s to supporting Meaningful Use implementations in the 2010s and all that the 2020s have thrown our way. Through it all, we continue to have teams coming together to make big things happen.

The Iowa Clinic

The Iowa Clinic is pleased to announce the appointment of Brandon Gockley as Chief Information Officer (CIO), bringing a strategic vision that unites innovative technology with compassionate, patient-centered care. With a career rooted in healthcare transformation, Gockley joins The Iowa Clinic to lead technology strategy, drive modernization, and support clinical and operational excellence through secure, intelligent, and future-ready systems. “We are fortunate and pleased to welcome Brandon,” said Ben Vallier, CEO of The Iowa Clinic. “His leadership and vision will be invaluable as we enhance operational capabilities and continue to deliver exceptional experiences for both patients and care teams.” Gockley has dedicated his career to using technology as a bridge, closing care gaps, streamlining operations, and empowering clinicians to deliver meaningful patient outcomes. “IT should be a driver of transformation,” he said. “Not just supporting the organization but actively shaping how we deliver care. From AI-enabled tools to secure, scalable infrastructure, every initiative must ultimately enhance the way patients experience healthcare.” He views innovation through a compassionate lens: simplifying navigation for patients, ensuring secure information exchange, and minimizing wait times, all to strengthen trust and improve outcomes. “We empower patients when we give them tools to be active participants in their health decisions,” he added. “That’s where technology becomes transformational.” Gockley believes that technology should be invisible to the patient but deeply impactful behind the scenes. “From the moment a patient schedules an appointment to the follow-up after their visit, technology plays a role. Our job in IT is to make that journey seamless, eliminating delays, improving communication, and helping clinicians spend more time focused on care, not systems.” He joins The Iowa Clinic from the Lexington Clinic in Lexington, KY, where he served as CIO. He selected The Iowa Clinic because of its independent, physician-owned model that places the needs of patients above all else. “The physician-led approach allows healthcare teams to prioritize each patient’s experience, offering thoughtful attention, smooth care transitions, and a relationship built on trust. This commitment not only improves outcomes but also strengthens the connection between physicians and the community.”

Medicaid is the backbone of Iowa’s health care infrastructure — and it’s at risk. Bob Ritz, FACHE, President and CEO of MercyOne, spoke with the Des Moines Register about proposed federal cuts to Medicaid that could jeopardize care for nearly 700,000 Iowans — including 300,000 children. These cuts wouldn’t just affect those on Medicaid. Fewer providers, reduced services, and more crowded emergency rooms could impact all Iowans, especially in rural areas where access is already limited. Medicaid isn’t just a safety net — it’s a lifeline. It supports maternal health, behavioral health, pediatrics and more — keeping our clinics open and care accessible. This goes well beyond AI oversight. Iowa is proposing a framework where licensed AI entities could deliver certain clinical services, carry provider-level duties, and be folded into reimbursement rules. That moves the debate out of software governance and into care delivery, payment policy, and scope-of-practice https://lnkd.in/eHD5SD7C
