While Congress fights over whether to ban hemp products or leave them unregulated, the hemp provisions of the 2018 Farm Bill are collapsing exactly as some of us warned they would. The principle I laid out back then was simple: regulate by effect, not botanical origin. Cannabis is cannabis. It's time to stop pretending "hemp" and "marijuana" are different plants. Six years later? Hemp operators are oversaturated in cannabinoids while neglecting industrial applications. Gas stations are competing with licensed dispensaries. McConnell and Harris are effectively pushing re-criminalization. Patient advocates are mobilizing against an impending ban. And Big Pharma, Big Alcohol, and Big Tobacco are positioning themselves to swoop in. Every stakeholder is trapped fighting over a broken framework that only serves those positioned to consolidate and criminalize the rest. Anthropological, linguistic, and cultural evidence—championed by scholars like Cheikh Anta Diop—locates the origin of humanity and early civilization squarely in Africa. Yet, through systematic Eurocentric Christian indoctrination, African peoples were taught to see salvation through the eyes of their colonizers and to forget the sacred knowledge embedded in their own traditions. As John S. Mbiti once affirmed, “Africans are notoriously religious,” with indigenous theologies deeply rooted in ancestral memory and cosmological harmony. These were dismissed as “pagan” to make way for a racially reconstructed Christ. Theologian James H. Cone challenged this imposed theology, declaring that “God is Black”—a radical reclamation of the divine from the margins of empire. The question remains: What happens when a people’s deity no longer reflects their face, their story, or their land? A few days ago, I received a funny threat in response to a post I made which highlighted Captain Ibrahim Traoré. I’ve had my fair share of strange comments from random profiles (usually never Africans)—but this one took things to another level. At first, I laughed it off—it felt absurd and childish. But I realized the threat wasn’t just about me. It was a warning, a tactic meant to intimidate others from publicly supporting what Traoré is doing: 🔹 It started as a disagreement—fair and welcome. 🔹 I replied respectfully, pointing out the individual’s lack of context on Burkina Faso. 🔹 Suddenly, things escalated: I was accused of supporting coups Called racist My arguments were dismissed as “nonsense” I was labeled “anti-white” Then came the real threat: “I’ve screenshotted this and will send it to your boss.” 🎯 Let me be clear: this wasn’t about debate—it was manipulation. Once I clapped back, he deleted the “threat comment”.I reposted his comment (because I made a screenshot) and clapped back again, he then deleted his initial comment, which also erased the entire thread. The intention was very clear… Labeling and Intimidation. This isn't isolated. Almost every time I post about Captain Traoré, the pushback is immediate—from DMs trying to discredit him, to democracy advocacy comments from random fellows who weirdly have never been concerned about the level of democracy of the other African leaders I post about. It’s obvious there are people on this platform with agendas: not to engage, but to silence. Ironically, I’ve seen someone get a job referral under a post where they criticized Captain IB. Coincidence? Maybe. But patterns don’t lie. Here’s the truth: 🌍 Many Africans are tired of corruption, tired of leaders clinging to power for 20+ years, tired of foreign interference disguised as diplomacy. So when one young leader shows courage, vision, and action—he becomes a symbol of hope. Not because we’re Burkinabé,but because our realities across the continent are shared. Don’t fold nor shrink one bit. Stand by your convictions. Support those who represent progress. By questioning the leadership of Traoré, an African leader heralded for his efforts to reassert sovereignty and challenge Western dominance, the U.S. exposes its double standards on democracy, human rights, and governance. For a country that continues to brutalize its Black citizens through mass incarceration, police violence, and systemic racism, the U.S. has little credibility to act as the moral compass of the world. Even as American corporations and political elites benefit from a status quo that perpetuates inequality and injustice at home, they boldly lecture the Global South on governance. The case of Captain Ibrahim Traoré echoes a painful history of African leaders who have stood up for the continent's independence, only to be silenced, discredited, and eliminated by external forces fearful of African self-determination. From Patrice Lumumba’s assassination by Belgian and American forces, to the CIA-backed coup that ousted Kwame Nkrumah, and the violent downfall of Thomas Sankara at the hands of Western-backed operatives, these leaders posed a simple yet dangerous question: Can Africa exist without the economic and political dominance of former colonizers? Similarly, when Colonel Muammar Gaddafi called for the establishment of a pan-African currency and a unified political structure, he was killed. His bold ideas for African unity were extinguished under the weight of Western intervention. These leaders were not deemed enemies of democracy, but rather obstacles to a world order that profits from Africa’s subjugation. The tragedy deepens when we observe that the West often does not confront Africa directly. Instead, it has historically perfected the art of using proxies, recruiting Africans themselves to sabotage African progress. In Congo, Mobutu Sese Seko was elevated after Lumumba's assassination to do the bidding of Western powers. In Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaoré, once a comrade of Sankara, was manipulated to betray and destroy the revolution. Today, similar tactics are at play. Langley’s fingerprints are evident again as compliant figures are cultivated to serve external interests at the expense of African unity and dignity. The same playbook is being deployed, but Africans are now more vigilant than ever. So what is it that the U.S. fears in Captain Traoré’s leadership? It is not simply the governance of Burkina Faso, but the broader message of defiance and sovereignty that he represents. Across research, production, clinical use, and policy, the constraint has never been access. It has been consistency, validation, and data integrity. As conversations evolve, the question is no longer if this space integrates into broader healthcare and regulatory frameworks, but how that integration happens without introducing fragmentation. The opportunity ahead is not just policy alignment, but infrastructure alignment, ensuring that inputs, outputs, and outcomes can be trusted across stakeholders. Looking forward to the discussions this week in Salt Lake City. This next phase will be shaped by those thinking beyond categories and toward systems. Transforming healthcare with AI requires industry. Industry requires capital investment. Capital investment requires return. Return requires revenue. Revenue requires reimbursement. Medicare (and transitively private insurance) reimbursement policy for clinical AI will define the incentives for the technologies we build and deploy over the next decade. Our existing fee for service codes are what the military would call cost-plus contracting. We pay for every nail, screw, and hour of labor and don't care if that was a good and efficient way to build the tank or not. Our CMS Innovation Center director, Abe Sutton, believes cost-plus is the wrong path for the future of American healthcare. ACCESS and VBC models pay for outcomes. When we have AI that can manage heart failure can we link payment to making people healthier? Doing so would unleash the might of American techno-capitalism on exactly the thing we care about in society, but there are devils in the details.
