Phillip Van Poole liked thisPhillip Van Poole liked thisBack in my day, kids grew up free-range. Independent, adaptable, and a little scrappy. We roamed in packs, rode bikes till dark, built forts, and handled scrapes without much supervision. A little wild, a little feral, but it toughened us up. We went to school with no water bottle, no snacks, no phone. Just showed up and figured it out. And somehow, we survived. That’s Generation X. We didn’t grow up with constant validation. We grew up with responsibility. That didn’t make us cold. It made us observant. We learned when to speak, when to listen, and when to walk away. We learned how to work through uncertainty without needing permission. We’re also the generation that doesn’t spend much time worrying about what others think. We didn’t grow up comparing ourselves online. No feeds. No filters. No constant measuring. We were our own comparison. We figured out who we were and explored who we wanted to become in real time. Independence wasn’t a trend for us. It was the default. Less hovering. Fewer safety nets. More trial and error. That upbringing shaped how we think and lead today. Resourceful. Resilient. Comfortable handling things on our own. Gen X often leads quietly. We don’t need the spotlight. We just need things to work. Gen X learned leadership the hard way. We weren’t coached through every step or constantly reassured. We learned by watching what worked, what failed, and what felt off. That creates leaders who are observant, not reactive. Gen X is comfortable operating without applause. We don’t need constant recognition to stay engaged. We focus on outcomes, not optics. We also grew up bridging worlds. Analog childhood, digital adulthood. That makes Gen X translators. We understand systems, people, and change without romanticizing any of it. Gen X leaders tend to be pragmatic. We ask better questions because we’re used to figuring things out ourselves. We trust experience over noise. And maybe most important, we don’t confuse leadership with visibility. We’re fine leading quietly, as long as things work and people are taken care of. That combination is rare. And it’s why Gen X leadership often feels steady when things get chaotic. If you’re Gen X, you know exactly what I mean. If you lead Gen X, this is your cheat code. What do you think Gen X gets right that other generations often miss? #GenX #Leadership #WorkCulture #ExperienceMatters

Phillip Van Poole liked thisPhillip Van Poole liked thisHigh Performance isn’t always graceful, it’s adaptive. Most leaders fail not because they fall, but because they try to recover perfectly. In high-pressure moments, perfection is your enemy. It slows decision-making. It kills momentum. And it keeps teams stuck trying to fix the optics instead of finishing the mission. What wins on the track or in the boardroom, is recovery speed. If you want to perform under pressure, train yourself and your team to: → Respond fast, not flawlessly → Stay goal-focused, not ego-protected → Adapt with urgency, not anxiety Clean recovery is a luxury. Forward motion is the edge. #LeadershipDevelopment #DecisionMaking #HighPerformance #Adaptability #GrowthMindset #ExecutiveCoaching #PeakPerformance #CEOCoach

Phillip Van Poole liked thisPhillip Van Poole liked thisI was privy to a conversation about a candidate who “didn’t follow up” after the interview. For context: the candidate followed up twice. Each time, the interviewer said they were waiting on the CEO for timing and would be in touch. Nearly 30 days later, the interviewer said, “I guess they didn’t want the job that badly. They never followed up.” My blood boiled. The interviewer failed to follow through, then blamed the candidate for not chasing them. How does that make sense? People need jobs, myself included, but after one or two professional follow-ups, it’s time to move on. #Companies, #recruiters, #employers: stop expecting candidates to chase you because of your lack of follow-through or disinterest. That’s it. That’s the post.

Debunking the Myth that Data Centers Can't Accelerate Job Growth and help Bridge State’s Budget Gap The Maryland Tech Council recently published a report prepared by Sage Policy Group, that offers states a rare opportunity to expand its tax base, create high-paying jobs, and lead in the digital economy—without raising taxes or straining public services. Results may vary from state to state, as this report is specific to Maryland. Within the report you will see both pre-build and post-build operations economic impact, and where the revenues come from for the state. The continued emergence of AI with its underlying infrastructure, shows the U.S. technology industry is expected to invest upwards of $500 billion to build out AI and data center infrastructure by 2030, presenting Maryland and other states with a clear opportunity to strengthen its economic and fiscal position by supporting the data center industry. Marketing is all about the data and metrics. Marketing is much more than lead generation. Marketing encompasses everything from bringing in the client to retaining the client and expanding the portfolio of services provided to them. Marketing must consider the business's ability to sign up and retain clients, as well as its capacity to do so profitably. https://lnkd.in/dhd-vYiW
