Michael Chime shared thisSince Prepared joined Axon, I've been quiet on here - but for good reason. I've been on the road nonstop, sitting across from some of the most dedicated leaders in public safety. People like Desiree Arnold BBA MBA CPE, Leah Missildine, Andrew Dameron, M.A., CPE, Tenea Reddick, and Tina Buneta - some of whom believed in us from day one and have been thought partners since Prepared was just an idea. Every conversation comes back to the same thing: 911 is the backbone of public safety, and the technology behind it hasn't kept up. The workflows are fragmented. The tools are outdated. And too often, the system works against the very people doing the work. This has been true for a long time, we all know it - the difference now is that we can actually do something about it. AI is going to change the world. Not incrementally. Fundamentally. And Prepared and Carbyne joining forces inside Axon gives us a once-in-a-generation opportunity to actually rewrite this - not just talk about it, but actually change it. And we plan to take big swings. I respect everyone working to move this space forward. But too many solutions today are either AI applied to narrow slices of the problem, or AI layered on top of decades-old infrastructure. If we want a future that's less fragmented and actually built for the work - we have to be willing to rebuild from the ground up side by side 911. Of course this won't happen overnight. It'll be hard work. But we're committed to it and it is our mission. And next week at Axon Week 2026, we plan to share our vision for the future of 911 with the world. Can't wait to show you.Michael Chime shared thisYesterday at Axon HQ, teams from Axon, Prepared, and Carbyne brought together 60+ PSAP leaders for a focused conversation on the future of emergency response. The discussion centered on how technology, coordination, and shared standards can strengthen outcomes across the entire response chain — from the moment a 911 call is placed to resolution in the field. What’s clear is that progress will depend not just on innovation, but on continued partnership with the agencies and professionals at the center of this work. We’re grateful to everyone who joined and contributed to the conversation!

That's just a few of the ways the AI enhancing Fort Worth's emergency communications has been described; AI powered by Prepared. We're incredibly grateful for their partnership and honored to be able to serve the Fort Worth community, especially as the world arrives at their doorstep for this summer's World Cup. ➡️ Hear more from Deputy Director Aubry Insco & her staff about the impact of the platform:

Michael Chime reposted thisMichael Chime reposted thisToday, my team and I had the opportunity to speak with NBC5 about the future of AI in the City of Fort Worth’s Emergency Communications Centers and what it could mean for the communities we serve. As call volumes grow and the demand for service continues to increase, public safety must look for thoughtful, responsible ways to evolve. Implementing AI is a force multiplier that allows us to honor every call with timely response and resolution. Every day, our teams answer calls from people experiencing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. In times of human crisis, human connection is warranted. This should not change, regardless of how technology evolves. AI should enhance our ability to serve, not replace the human compassion, connection, judgment, and professionalism needed to navigate crisis. On the other hand, if technology can help reduce wait times, assist with non-emergency requests, and ensure that trained first responders are available when someone truly needs 9-1-1, then it becomes another powerful tool to assist those in need. The future of emergency communications will always be human-centered. However, with the right tools, we can respond faster, work smarter, and continue strengthening the lifeline between our #CommUNITY and the help they need. Michael Chime reposted thisMichael Chime reposted thisI just published my first post on Substack, about the first time Prepared saved a life. Four years ago in August of 2021, five of us — nearly our entire company at the time — watched a 911 dispatcher named Shamoya send a video link to a caller’s phone. What happened afterwards changed everything, from the way we approached 911 response to the direction we sought to grow the company. This story means so much to me, not only as a fond memory, but also for the incredibly important place it holds in the history of what we built together at Prepared. Moving forward into the new year, this story will be joined by many others on my Substack. My hope is to create a place for valuable reflection on the moments which have shaped me as a co-founder at the forefront of emergency response. If you’d like to come along on this journey, I’d love for you to subscribe. https://lnkd.in/eHF2vHCW

Michael Chime shared thisLast week, Neal Soni and I hosted a webinar walking through some of the new additions coming to the Prepared platform in 2025, and shared a few thoughts on how AI could shape 911 in 2026. One thing we also showed at our most recent customer summit was something we call Live Guidance. It acts like a quiet co-pilot for call-takers, understanding where they are in a call and subtly nudging them with what to say next, grounded in each center’s own protocols and data. We’re excited to keep rolling this out in early 2026 and, like many of our newer capabilities, include it directly in our existing products at no additional cost.Michael Chime shared thisLive Guidance ensures that call-takers have an assistant to help capture critical details and align questions with protocols. Available in early 2026, built from conversations with users, Live Guidance gives call-takers real-time support in getting the right information to the field faster than ever before. 🎬 Learn more by watching this full demo & discussion from our New HorAIzons Directors Roundtable in August: https://bit.ly/48Ccck8

Andrea spent 13 years in the PSAP at Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department before joining Carbyne where she's now our Director of Public Safety. She's been a consistent advocate for the people behind the headset, including co-chairing NENA's DEI Special Committee. This is what it looks like when someone who's lived the work gets a seat at the table that shapes its future. We're proud to have her on our team, and we know she'll bring the same commitment to NENA: The 9-1-1 Association's board that she brings to everything she does. Andrea will be sworn in at #NENA2026 in Columbus this July. We'll be there. Congratulations also to Darlene Pankonie, ENP, Raymond Pheris, ENP, and Jennifer Poole, ENP, on their election wins. Michael Chime liked thisMichael Chime liked thisI almost left legal tech. I left Product Marketing instead. My playbook has always been the same: jump into a new industry, lean on my PMM chops to learn everything about the players, buyers, and trends. Turn that insight into strategy and stories. Then do it again somewhere new. But then I found a company that broke that pattern. The team, brand, and product felt different, new and exciting. The more I learned, the more I realized leaving would mean watching from the sidelines. And I don't do FOMO well. So, I've joined Sandstone as Chief of Staff & Operations — a role that lets me take everything I've learned in PMM and apply it at the operational level. If you're curious, reach out — I'd love to show you what made me stay.

How did a small city like the City of Corona become a surprising innovation hub for AI? In our latest GovAI podcast, I sat down with Chris McMasters, CIO of Corona, California. After nearly two decades in the private sector, Chris made the leap into government—driven by a sense of purpose to serve. Our conversation tackled a big question: why does government often lag in adopting new technologies like AI? Chris explained it’s not about chasing the latest tech—it’s about protecting the people they serve and ensuring any new tool actually makes a difference. The key? Build trust first, then show—not tell—how technology can help. Chris believes AI won’t replace people—it’ll free them to focus on what humans do best. His vision: a future where city services are as seamless as ordering from Amazon, with AI agents removing the red tape. For anyone working in GovTech, or trying to break in, you'll learn a lot from this conversation. 🔗 Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/dzNed-ZP or listen here: https://lnkd.in/dhpwW_-8

The Digital Health Hub Foundation - Digital Health Awards, together with partner StartUp Health and Fedcap, proudly launches a new gathering in New York City: Civic Health. Founded in 1935 as the Federation of the Crippled and Disabled, Fedcap has spent nearly a century advancing opportunity and dignity for those too often left out of the system. Today, that spirit inspires a new conversation about the future of health. Civic Health is built on a simple but urgent idea: healthcare must work for the 99%. Around the world, breakthroughs in AI, diagnostics, digital health, and new care models are redefining what healthcare can be. Yet too often innovation reaches only a privileged few. Civic Health exists to spotlight the leaders, technologies, and systems working to change that—to make healthcare more accessible, more affordable, and ultimately better for everyone. On June 16, innovators, health system leaders, technologists, entrepreneurs, and civic changemakers will gather at Civic Hall to explore how a new generation of tools and ideas can transform the health of communities at scale. This is more than a conference. It is the beginning of a new civic health movement. The goal is to establish an annual New York convening—bringing together the world’s most forward-thinking minds in healthcare each spring, when the city is alive with possibility and collaboration. The Digital Health Hub Foundation is championing this effort because there is currently no global forum dedicated to putting civic health first—no stage where the conversation begins with health equity, community impact, and real-world access. Civic Health aims to change that. Because the future of healthcare will not be defined only by innovation. It will be defined by who that innovation reaches. And the mission is clear: better health for everyone. Most early-stage founders in Israel know the struggle of applying for the Israel Innovation Authority’s Pre-Seed Grant. Applications often get stuck on the requirement to first show matching investment. We designed the EXPAND III program to remove that barrier. This cohort focuses on Physical AI, robotics, and simulation, areas where early development is expensive and time-sensitive. We’ve secured $300K in investment from Creations VC for each startup accepted into the program. If you’re selected, that investment can serve as your matching capital, helping secure an additional ≈$350K in non-dilutive IIA funding. Instead of chasing investors to qualify for a grant, you can focus on building your company. That’s what makes EXPAND III different. We built a structure that helps founders move fast, meet the IIA’s matching requirement, and gain real funding momentum from the start. (link to apply in comments)

I was reading a recent a16z speedrun Substack and was really struck by Julie Yoo’s take on what to build in healthcare in 2026. Her thesis centers on a new user segment: “Healthy MAUs.” The traditional healthcare system has primarily served three main user segments: (a) “sick MAUs”: people with spiky, high-cost needs; (b) “sick DAUs”: like those in intensive, long-term care; and (c) “healthy YAUs”: relatively healthy individuals who rarely see a doctor. Healthy YAUs are at risk of becoming Sick MAUs/DAUs, and preventive care could slow that shift. But our reaction-pilled healthcare system rewards treatment over prevention, so access to proactive check-ins and monitoring services are not prioritized, and insurance rarely covers them anyway. Enter Healthy MAUs: consumers who aren’t actively sick but want to monitor and understand their health on a recurring basis—and also represent the potentially largest portion of the consumer population. We expect a wave of companies—both AI-native upstarts, and repackaged versions of incumbents—to start offering recurring services to serve this user base. With AI’s potential to reduce the cost structure of care delivery, the advent of novel health insurance products focused on prevention, and consumers more comfortable paying for subscription-based models out of pocket, “healthy MAUs” represent the next high-potential customer segment for healthtech: continuously engaged, data-informed, and prevention oriented. I am so obsessed with this space, not just for B2C applications, but also for B2B and insurance-adjacent models. Question for your: Do you think Healthy MAUs will become the dominant healthcare user segment in EU as well? And where do you see the biggest opportunities—consumer, employer, or payer-led?

🚀 VC Funding Flash: Telehealth Megarounds, Nuclear Retrofits, & Agentic Auto. It’s a massive week for builders scaling "real-world" tech. From re-architecting the nuclear grid to AI-native car buying, here’s who just secured their next growth chapter: Talkiatry 🧠 secured a $210M Series D led by Perceptive Advisors, bringing its total raise to over $400M. The nation’s largest private employer of psychiatrists is doubling down on its "full-stack" model - matching 800+ staff physicians with patients via an AI-driven platform. With 3 million visits delivered and 100+ insurance partnerships, Talkiatry is proving that virtual mental health can scale without sacrificing clinical quality. Anterior 🏥 raised a $40M round from New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Sequoia Capital, FPV Ventures, and Kinnevik. Formerly known as Co-Helm, the NYC startup is tackling the administrative "tax" on healthcare: insurance workflows. Using a "Forward Deployed Clinician" model, Anterior embeds AI alongside health plan staff to automate prior authorizations and payment integrity, aiming to turn weeks of bureaucracy into minutes of clinical accuracy. Alva Energy ⚛️ closed a $33M Series A led by Playground Global to modernize the existing nuclear fleet. Instead of waiting decades for new reactors, Alva retrofits operational plants with standardized "uprate" kits - replacing steam generators and adding turbine capacity. The Boston-based team plans to unlock 10GW of clean power for AI data centers by boosting individual reactor output by up to 300MWe. Ever 🚗 brought in a $31M Series A led by Eclipse to launch an AI-native marketplace for used EVs. Recognizing that legacy dealership software is a "bottleneck," Ever built an orchestration layer that automates hundreds of "invisible steps"—from battery health appraisals to complex tax incentive filings. The hybrid model combines an automated digital experience with physical hubs to ease first-time buyer range anxiety. UPTIQ 💳 raised a $25M Series B led by Curql to deploy "outcome-driven" AI agents across 140+ financial institutions. While generic AI struggles with compliance, Uptiq’s Qore platform is purpose-built for the high-stakes worlds of commercial lending and wealth management. From automating covenant monitoring to generating advisor co-pilots, the platform has already processed over $1B in transactions.

One of the things that stands out about startups building in the healthcare space is that the size of the problem and the potential for impact are so visceral. This was on full display yesterday at Berkeley SkyDeck Demo Day! Healthcare Innovators Making Waves: 📈 clearpol Inc.: Arash Hosseini Jafari M.S. shared a stunning statistic - a 3000% increase in healthcare admin hires since 1970! No wonder costs have skyrocketed. When you compare this to the much smaller increase in doctors, you can see what's happening. Clearpol is tackling this head-on with AI-powered compliance and QA to reduce administrative costs. 👏 👣 D.Sole: Every four minutes, a limb is amputated due to diabetes complications. D. Sole's smart insoles serve as an early warning and monitoring system for foot complications caused by Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy. Their impact? In a pilot with AHN, founder Saisri Akondi shared that they reduced costs by an incredible 80%! 👏 🧠 ReneuBio Inc: Approximately 40% of cancer survivors who complete chemotherapy don't return to work, largely due to 'chemo brain.' Of those who do return, more than 70% experience problems like fatigue, pain, cognitive deficits, and anxiety from chemo's impact. Salah Mahmoudi of ReneuBio is developing medicines to restore the regenerative capacity of the aging brain, starting with addressing chemo brain. 👏 Beyond Healthcare? Equally Impressive Innovations! Selfr.ai: Nour Lake and Naim Kosayyer are making self-served business intelligence accessible to anyone who can ask questions in plain English. Their breakthrough agentic AI technology eliminates LLM hallucinations, clearing the final barrier to widespread adoption of natural language BI. No special skills required! El Dorado: Having lived under high inflation and experiencing hyperinflation firsthand in Venezuela, Guillermo Goncalvez Espiga and 🐱👤 Juan A. built Latin America's first SuperApp for stablecoins. El Dorado helps hundreds of thousands of Latin Americans access gasless cross-border payments in digital dollars and move between local currencies anytime, anywhere. Shoutout to all the incredible founding teams who presented, to Caroline Winnett and the SKYDECK Team for 10 amazing years, and Sibyl Chen who made our Angel Happy Hour with Hustle Fund's Angel Squad (and others) such a great time that I forgot to take photos! Oh, and YES, there was a marching band and an interlude from American Conservatory Theater, San Francisco, previewing their new musical Co-Founders, which promises the weird fun of Severance combined with the relatable humor of Silicon Valley. Yes please!

Politico Pro today published a deeper look at some of the ways the ongoing federal government shutdown could impact Silicon Valley's dynamic innovation ecosystem. The piece cites comments from SVLG CEO Ahmad Thomas who spoke to the potential repercussions for startups as one example. "If this gets to a stage where you have, as just one example, SEC staff that are impacted, and IPO decisions are likewise impacted, you can really begin to have impacts on companies in the innovation economy and technology ecosystem," Thomas told POLITICO.
