Édgar Gallo and his team at Daimler Truck North America aren't using AI to replace their planners — they're using it to free those planners from the mechanical work that buries their expertise. Break the job into decision-making and task execution. Let the agent handle the tasks. Let the human do the thinking. But here's the part most people miss: none of this works without a knowledge layer underneath. The planner validated the agent not by inspecting code, but by challenging the business outcome. Same data, same thresholds, same conclusion. That's how trust gets built. At Alation, we think about the knowledge layer in three parts: agents, context, and catalog. The context and catalog give agents the metadata they need to act reliably — what the data means, who owns it, and whether it's trustworthy. But what really makes this come alive is the feedback loop. When agents act on data and generate outcomes, that experience flows back into the context layer, making the whole system smarter over time.
