Ayant marqué la scolarité de nombreuses promotions de l’X avec son savoir, son humour et son charisme, il était animé par une véritable passion pour l’enseignement. Ses cours mettaient toujours en lumière l’aspect humain de la recherche scientifique. Né le 18 septembre 1939 à Bucarest, Jean-Louis Basdevant poursuit des études scientifiques à l’École Normale Supérieure (ENS), tout en étant admis au Conservatoire national de Paris comme pianiste. En 1963, il rejoint le CNRS, et en 1969 il est recruté comme maître de conférences à l’École polytechnique. Membre du conseil d’administration de l’École polytechnique pendant plus de vingt ans, et président du département de physique de 1992 à sa retraite en 2004, Jean-Louis Basdevant a joué un rôle crucial dans la modernisation de l’enseignement à l’École. Nos pensées vont à sa famille et à ses proches.
