While everyone was admiring the robots (myself included), we surveyed more than 100 attendees with one question: “What AI breakthrough are you most excited to see by 2030?” The results? 🥇 #1: Scientific Discovery 🥈 #2: Robots I’ll admit it, I thought robots would win by a landslide. Apparently, we’re all a little more excited about AI helping cure diseases, unlock new discoveries, and solve humanity’s biggest challenges than having a robot fold our laundry. (Although…that would still be nice.) Walking the conference floor, one thing was clear: the conversation has shifted. AI isn’t just about productivity anymore - it’s about possibility. Now I’m curious…… What would be your #1 answer? And if you say “a robot that unloads the dishwasher without rearranging everything,” I completely understand.

I’ve been thinking about what that company looks like if I started it today. Honest answer? Same team. Same 400 people. But freed up to do two to three times the strategic work, because agents would’ve handled the screening, the scheduling, and the resume reformatting nobody enjoys. Those repetitive parts of recruiting, that nobody enjoys doing, those are all tasks an agent can do tonight. Better than humans. Or at least more consistently. Never tired. Never on PTO. What we did was hire more people to do the work. We had to. The tools didn’t exist yet. The recruiters who would’ve stayed under today’s stack would’ve been the ones doing the strategic work. The relationship building. The hard candidate conversations. The judgment calls about who actually fits a culture. Hindsight is cheap. The lesson isn’t “I should’ve done it differently.” It’s this: If you’re running an ops-heavy business right now, the version of you in 2028 is going to look back at the headcount you’re spending today the way I look back at 2022. Plan accordingly. People power business. They always will. But the people you keep in 2028 are going to be the ones who handle the work that requires being a person. Not the ones doing what an agent can do. That’s not a layoff prediction. That’s a redeployment opportunity. Build for that now. Or pay to catch up later.

Look how they hire and a pattern shows up that most startups completely overlook. They've built a screening process so tight that by the time a senior engineer meets a candidate, most of the heavy lifting is already done. I broke down exactly how Anthropic does it and turned it into a playbook you can borrow. Inside you'll find: → Why they screen for mission alignment from the very first call - technical depth without genuine alignment to their AI safety mission is a dealbreaker, not a small gap → How they hire without being credential-driven - roughly half their technical staff come from non-ML backgrounds, and "direct evidence of ability" beats pedigree every time → The 3-4 week loop they use to keep the bar high without dragging the process - recruiter screen → coding challenge → hiring manager deep dive → multi-hour onsite → The Mission & Values round most startups don't even know exists - a standalone interview where most strong technical candidates quietly fail → Why every hire requires consensus - every interviewer must agree, which forces every signal in the loop to actually matter → The 4 principles their process is built on and the 3 screening mistakes quietly draining your engineering team's time right now → BONUS: The tool top tech startups use to cut time-to-hire from 60 days to 10 - AI-powered video interviews that screen 24/7, ask follow-ups, challenge vague answers, and deliver scorecards before a senior engineer ever joins a call This is free and I'm sharing it for the next 48 hours. Want it? Connect with me + Comment "ANTHROPIC" I'll send it straight to your inbox. P.S. Repost for early access!

Gamma amazed me with their product, culture and the experience they gave me during the interview process. I still remember my first call with Ana Leyva and I knew I wanted to work with her immediately. Every interaction since then has left me even more excited. For those who haven't heard of Gamma: we’re reimagining how people create and share ideas. Think AI-powered presentations, documents, graphics, and websites that go from prompt to polished in seconds. The product is genuinely special, and the vision behind it is even bigger. I’m looking to hire a Biz Recruiter to join me asap! We are also hiring Techinal Recruiters. Please reach out if you’re interested!

Looking back when I first joined over a decade ago, it’s hard to put into words how much both the platform and I have grown. I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of this visionary team, helping build the infrastructure that powers experiences for millions of users worldwide. To my colleagues, past and present: Thank you. It has been an awesome journey seeing the company grow from around 80 people when I joined to about 3500 and counting. I could not have asked for a better professional experience during this time. I have met so many awesome people along the way, and I'm grateful for the brilliant collaborations, the complex technical challenges that we have tackled together, and the friendships that have made the last 11 years so rewarding. What’s next - After an intense and fulfilling decade and half in Silicon Valley, I’m embarking on a new personal chapter. My family and I are moving back to India! I’m looking forward to settling into our new home, spending quality time together, and taking an intentional reset. That said, I am a builder at heart. While I’m stepping away from the day-to-day engineering for now, I’ll never be far from the craft. I’m excited to use this downtime to explore new paradigms in AI-native development and stay curious about where the industry is headed. To everyone I’ve crossed paths: it’s been an absolute honor. Let’s stay connected!

𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐚𝐭. 🛡️🧠 Last Thursday in Santa Monica, we featured Mandy Teefey(Co-Founder & CEO, Wondermind) and Ryan Tanaka (Principal at Diversis,$3B+ AUM) at our monthly Private Founders Dinner, where we discussed shifting business models and how to build software that resists AI commoditization. Key insights from the evening: 🧠 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭. Wondermind’s shift from media to a mental fitness ecosystem demonstrates the power of a holistic brand. Success isn't just starting a conversation; it’s providing the lifestyle tools that sustain it. 📈 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐬. Don't ignore the "quiet" demand. Wondermind’s focus on male-focused mental health generated 2 billion hits, confirming a massive gap in the market for lifestyle-oriented mental fitness. 🧩 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐚𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐈. The best protection against AI disruption is proprietary data. Investors are looking for "tool-agnostic" companies that use AI as a layer but own the exclusive datasets and complex workflows that models can't easily replicate. 🤝 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐏𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐬. Managing multiple revenue streams is like running several companies at once. Scaling founders must solidify their primary engine before expanding, ensuring the core mission stays intact during growth. 🍷 Deep tactical dives happened over an upscale dinner in Santa Monica, fostering curated connections between LA’s top founders and funders. A huge thank you to Mandy Teefey and Ryan Tanaka for their insights, and to our co-hosts Anand Mehta and Darien Pun from Gunderson Dettmer for making this incredible evening possible. We also really appreciate those who made the 2.5-hour drive from OC to join us, it means a lot that you took the time to be there.
