Great candidates can absolutely get lost in the shuffle. Personally, I don’t mind a thoughtful follow-up. If you’re genuinely a fit, it may make me stop and take another look. But I also know recruiters who feel differently, especially when they’re managing hundreds of applications AND a full inbox. Kellee Dawson posted thisDO IT ANYWAY 🦾 This morning I saw a post from a woman talking about all the times she was tired, uneducated, unprepared and unfunded. And she did it anyway. People applauded her. And rightfully so. It made me think about hiring. We tell people to take the chance. Apply before they feel ready. Say yes and figure it out. But then a candidate applies without checking every box and we ask, Why would they apply if they aren't qualified? Sometimes the missing experience really matters. Sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes we hire the person who hasn’t done the exact job before because we see judgment, drive, curiosity or the ability to learn. So maybe the question isn’t always: Are they ready? 🫣 Maybe it’s: Do they have enough of the right things to become ready? There’s a difference between someone who cannot do the job and someone who hasn’t done all of it yet. But sometimes the hiring team is looking for something more specific that never made it into the posting. A certain specialization. A certain environment. A certain type of experience. So the rejection feels confusing because you were qualified for the job you read. You just weren’t qualified for the job they had in mind. Sometimes the problem isn’t the candidate. It’s the job description. If you keep running into this and can’t figure out why the roles you seem perfectly matched for aren’t moving forward, feel free to reach out. It’s how someone felt while buying it. For years, the best luxury experiences have been built around more than product. Recognition. Access. Personalization. Being remembered. Feeling like you belong. That is what clients want. Product may get someone through the door, but the experience is often what brings them back. As brands continue to invest in technology, personalization and AI, I think the real challenge will be figuring out how to scale convenience without losing connection. Luxury will keep evolving. But people will still remember how you made them feel. What do you think matters more in luxury today: the product, the access, or the experience around it?

Kellee Dawson shared thisOne of the best resumes I ever hired was a total BUST! Earlier in my career as a luxury store leader, I hired someone I was almost worried was overqualified. Great title. Significant business. Strong with clients. Could delegate. Then they started. I quickly realized the title told me far less than I thought it did. I still remember being shocked that they couldn't even change a mannequin without help. Two people can both say they ran a $10M business. One managed the people who ran it. The other empowered the team while still knowing the clients, the employees, the product and what was actually happening inside the business. Same title. Very different leader. That experience still influences how we approach talent at The Seede + Co. We don't evaluate people in a talent bubble. Our perspective comes from working across brands, roles and markets, and alongside store leaders, regional leaders, executives, CEOs, developers and designers. Sometimes the difference isn't finding another candidate. It's seeing the candidate differently. Tell me I'm not the only one? Zoë Huse Totally agree! I try to respond to everyone who messages me too. Unfortunately, when the outreach isn’t aligned with the role, it adds to the volume and can make it harder for the truly qualified candidates to stand out.
