Until the first project. Here's what I noticed immediately: His speed was different. Not rushed, just efficient. He knew exactly what needed doing and in what order. His attention to detail caught things that would've become problems down the line. Small decisions that save hours of rework later. And the work he produced? Honestly, it made the price difference look like a bargain. The project that would usually take two weeks? Done in one. No hand-holding. No endless revisions. Just someone who'd seen this exact scenario play out a hundred times before and knew exactly how to handle it. Here's the thing about experience: It's not just about doing the work faster. It's about knowing which work not to do. Which shortcuts actually save time. Which small details will cause massive headaches later. My junior team members weren't bad at their jobs. They were learning, growing, getting better every day. But they just hadn't made all the mistakes yet. Every seasoned contractor was once starting out. They just charged tuition in the form of failed projects, late nights, and lessons learned the hard way. Now I'm paying for the education they've already completed. And honestly? It's a bargain. Next time you see a rate that makes you pause, remember: You're not paying for their time. You're paying for the years they spent figuring out how to save you from wasting yours.

Ask serious questions to signal that they aren't the only party that needs to think about the decision... The biggest decisions you'll make in your life: 👰 Who you marry 🌎 Where you live 🏠 Buying a home 💼 >>> Taking a job <<< You probably ask lots of questions when you're* dating, choosing a city to live in, or looking at a property... Interviewing for a new job is no different. Great employers will see your inquisitiveness as a positive signal. They'll happily answer your questions. Less-than-great employers will eschew your questions. You'll have learned something about them in the process. And if they don't offer you a job because you asked questions, is it a job you would have wanted??

The Luxembourg court has ruled that Jeff Dieschburg infringed upon my copyright when he used my work without consent. Using a different medium was irrelevant. My work being 'available online' was irrelevant. Consent was necessary. This win means a lot—not just for me but also for artists and photographers everywhere. It’s a reminder that copyright protects individuals from those that try to profit off our work without consent. It reaffirms that our work being online doesn't mean we give up our rights. For 2 years I’ve been harassed for fighting this because of my gender, my race, my being a photographer. Being told as a Chinese person I deserve this, that as a woman I'm trying to take the money of a man, even though he stole from me. My home address was doxxed, I was told they'd put me in jail, that I’d kill myself soon. I lost out on work because of how it ate away at me. But I didn't want to give up. Maybe it's a stupid ideal, but I think if we can, we should stand up to bullies who believe they can get away with anything because they know people can't fight back. So this is for the young me who couldn’t fight for herself, and for everyone else who's felt the same, that they couldn't challenge what seemed terrifying, powerful, and unjust. I know that as individuals, it may not seem like there's much we can do. But even if we are alone, the act of many individuals fighting for what's right, over time, may one day be collectively enough to make a difference in this world. So next time you see someone do this to another artist and claim that: - "using a different medium is transformative and not copyright infringement", or - "this was found on the internet so it's free to use!" Show them my case. Because they are wrong. I want to thank Luxembourg and its judicial system for upholding copyright protection for an individual, especially in time of AI where our rights seem to be quickly eroding. And to my lawyer Vincent Wellens and team at NautaDutilh—thank you for your strength and for fighting to protect the rights of artists. I’m grateful for the incredible kindness of the people of Luxembourg and everyone around the world. Your help and support meant a lot when my world was breaking apart. I sincerely hope that more of the world will look towards Luxembourg and remember that copyright is what allows individual such as myself to work as an artist. Because without knowing that I can own what I create and be protected to make a living off my work—I could never have chosen this path. It's hard to find the right words after two years of suppressing what I can say or post. I'm still processing the fact that I can finally start to have my life back now. I joined as employee no 427 and today about 1300 team members are working with passion, courage & creativity to connect humans through the best shared sound experiences ❤️ In my time at L-Acoustics I’ve held 4 roles, helped build 2 new sectors of activity and been proud to be part of an incredible growth story. If you played a part in that I am grateful! 🙏 We’ve been working to widen the industry conversation about the quality of what we listen to. Sound can be presented in hyperreal and creative ways enabled by pioneering spatial systems and creative tools introduced in 2016. It’s gratifying to see that listening out loud & IRL with intent is having a moment (do a Google trend search on deep listening or listening bars). That raw emotion can’t be prompted. Westbrook liked thisJust finished the breakdown for “The Gate.” This environment was originally created for a CG Pro webinar, where I walked through the process of building a cinematic Unreal Engine shot from ideation to final render. The session covered several parts of the pipeline, including: • Look development and building a cohesive scene using a mix of hero assets and existing asset libraries • Using SpeedTree to create foliage elements like ivy, grass, and bushes • Material layering and masking techniques to enhance large or repeatable assets by driving high-resolution tileable detail through masks, allowing surfaces to maintain strong resolution and variation across the scene • Creating the foreground terrain using Gaia • Driving portal simulations and FX elements using Houdini • Setting up the final lighting and render inside Unreal Engine The final stage focused on rendering for compositing, including some basic do’s and don’ts when preparing Unreal renders for external comp workflows. After the webinar, I revisited the shot and pushed the comp further in Nuke, refining several elements including sky replacement, atmospheric haze, grading, and portal integration. I also separated out key lighting contributions based on lighting intention — including moonlight rim, portal key light, and portal bounce — allowing for more targeted adjustments during compositing. Always fun revisiting a shot and pushing it further. Jessica D. Westbrook liked thisJessica D. Westbrook liked thisOn March 13, 1960, Joseph Henry "Joe" Ranft was born in Pasadena, California. He would grow up to become one of the most influential story artists and voice talents in modern American animation. Ranft studied at the California Institute of the Arts, training alongside future animation legends. Early in his career, he worked at Walt Disney Animation Studios, contributing story work to “Oliver and Company”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “The Lion King”, and “Fantasia 2000”. He later became a key creative at Pixar, helping shape films like “Toy Story”, “A Bug's Life”, “Monsters, Inc.”, and “Cars”. Ranft also lent his voice to memorable characters, including Heimlich in “A Bug's Life” and Wheezy in “Toy Story 2”, showing off his comedic timing. Tragically, Joe Ranft died in a car accident on August 16, 2005, at age 45. Known for his quick wit and love of storytelling, he was famous for bringing small, humorous touches to every project.
