Jasiri X reacted on thisJasiri X reacted on thisFinancial literacy isn't enough. Never has been. We've been handing people PowerPoints and calling it empowerment. A one-hour seminar. A pamphlet. A checkbox. (Meanwhile the wealth gap keeps growing. Funny how that works.) This weekend I volunteered at Connex Credit Union's Financial Reality Fair at Gateway Community College — and this is what it actually looks like. The scenarios. The decisions. The consequences — before the consequences are real. Because here's what I know after years of doing this work: You don't learn money by hearing about it. You learn money by practicing it. Repeatedly. With someone who actually cares if it sticks. That's not financial literacy. That's economic mobility. And that's what I bring to the organizations I work with. If you serve a community that deserves more than a workshop — let's talk. I'd love to bring this to your people. We move upward together. 💪🏾 Nice working together to sell those cars 😂 Clarence Ashe Thank you for the invite LeAndre Dupree, CUDE, CCUFC

This is a milestone for our community: it is the first film focused on Maternal and Infant Health to win this honor since 1967. This is about visibility: for the 84% of maternal deaths that are preventable. It’s about moving from "awareness" to "accountability" for every mother and baby. To the brave families who shared their stories: This win belongs to you. We are finally being seen. Now, let’s keep doing the work to ensure every mother makes it home. To Emmai Alaquiva, CONGRATULATIONS and thank you for letting me be part of this wonderful initiative. -

Bill McCord
Bill McCord
Bill McCord is a Self-Made entrepreneur in the business and financial world. Along with being a very private individual, he is a brilliant strategist and rarely conforms to the conventional way of thinking. Through his amazing vision and insight, he has been able to accomplish anything and everything he has set his mind to. Yet, he has remained completely unselfish and grounded. He has been quoted as saying "Success grounds you." Bill attributes such success to the men and women who he has partnered with, employed and worked for. Once Mr. McCord sets his sights on a goal, he builds a team of the best people he can find, provides solid leadership, good communication and his many years of business savvy to achieve it. "All business is based on relationships," Bill says, "create successful relationships, and you can surpass what your greatest critics or even YOU thought possible." Although he says he is semi-retired, he always has an eye out for a great investment opportunity. Those close to him would convey that he will never actually retire, but simply become more selective with his projects. And let me tell you, he can select them with surgical precision.

Background

Bill was not born into money, nor was he given any advantage in life. He had to rely on his street smarts, passion and sheer drive. In fact, he still keeps a picture of the small Southern home that he was raised in as a symbol of what he has accomplished and how far he has come. Bill began his rise in business as an Investment Banker. His path led him straight to the top of the financial food chain, with stops along the way as a Trader, Money/Portfolio Manager and Fund Manager. by the late 80's he was managing a well over 1 Billion Dollar fund. With this experience he moved on to start-ups, entrepreneurism, countless Founder ships, and immensely successful and well-known businesses. Bill served as CEO on numerous Board and Advisory Boards in both Private and Publicly listed companies.

🧠📻 When AI meets radio, communities speak—and policymakers listen. In Uganda, where internet access reaches only 27% of the population, radio remains the heartbeat of public discourse. During the 2022 Ebola outbreak, misinformation surged, fueled by mistrust and limited access to verified information. But what if we could listen to the voices that social media misses? Jonathan Mukiibi and the Makerere AI Lab did just that. By streaming and transcribing thousands of hours of community radio in Luganda and English, they built a machine learning pipeline that decoded public sentiment, fears, and vaccine hesitancy in real time. The result? A dashboard of insights that could guide health policy—not just for Ebola, but for future crises. This is more than tech innovation. It’s a reminder that: 🔹 Oral storytelling is data. 🔹 Offline voices matter. 🔹 Ethical AI must protect privacy while amplifying truth. As someone deeply invested in media-driven advocacy, I see this as a powerful model for inclusive public health, community engagement, and responsible AI. Imagine applying this to education, agriculture, peacebuilding... 💬 Let’s connect if you’re exploring AI, radio, or community-centered policy design. #AIforGood #PublicHealth #MediaInnovation #CommunityVoices #EthicalAI #EbolaResponse #AfricaTech #RadioData #StorytellingAsStrategy #SustainableDevelopment

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is a nonprofit educational and professional organization of African American journalists, students, and media professionals. Founded on December 12, 1975, in DC by 44 journalists, NABJ’s stated purpose is to provide quality programs and services to and advocate on behalf of Black journalists. The organization has worked for diversity and to increase the number of minorities in newsrooms across the country. NABJ has a membership of 4,100 and is the largest organization of journalists of color in the US. The organization was one of the four minority journalist member associations in the UNITY: Journalists of Color, Inc. until they seceded. The organization’s annual Salute to Excellence Awards honors coverage of African American people and subjects. Awards given include Journalist of the Year, Emerging Journalist, and Lifetime Achievement; past honorees have included Lester Holt, Ed Bradley, Carole Simpson, Byron Pitts, Charlayne Hunter-Gault, Bernard Shaw, Gwen Ifill, and Michele Norris. NABJ maintains the NABJ Hall of Fame. The founding meeting of the NABJ was held at the Sheraton Park Hotel. The interim committee for the NABJ, the Association of Black Journalists in Philadelphia, the Chicago Association of Black Journalists, the San Francisco Association of Black Journalists, and the Washington Association of Black Journalists hosted the founding to create the NABJ based on the work of the Black Perspective, a 1967 group of journalists. NABJ was created because, at the time, there were associations of other professions including teachers, lawyers, and doctors, and journalism was believed to be as important as other professions. NABJ was founded to increase the presence of Black people in mainstream media and change the misrepresentation of Black people. The organization used the constitution of The Association of Black Journalists in Philadelphia. The organization explicitly stated its excitement to cover the 1976 presidential campaigns. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Uganda’s creative industry just reached a major milestone. The passing of the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2025 marks a significant shift in how creative work is protected and monetized in our country. For years, artists, producers, and creators have struggled with piracy, limited control over their work, and inconsistent royalty payments. This new law begins to address those gaps—especially in today’s digital landscape. What does this mean for the creative sector? • Stronger protection for music, film, and digital content • Improved systems for royalty collection and distribution • Greater accountability for collecting societies • A more structured framework for monetizing creative work In simple terms: creators now have a better chance to earn fairly from their work. This is more than policy—it’s progress.
