Jake Perlman-Garr reposted thisJake Perlman-Garr reposted thisToday, we announced a $63M investment round, led by Alignment Growth, with the continued support of our existing shareholders including Left Lane, Kosmos, Cassius, Antifund or Bolt Ventures. And while the headline is about capital, what this moment really represents is belief. Belief in a crazy idea that started with a simple question: what if sport and entertainment could be built differently? Belief in a team that dared to challenge conventions and take risks. Belief in Gerard’s vision that, a few years ago, felt ambitious and even unrealistic. This round gives us momentum. It gives us the ability to think bigger, move faster, and keep building with intention — improving our product, expanding globally, investing in talent and technology, and continuing to push the boundaries of sports entertainment. But capital doesn’t change what matters most. The real work starts now. Higher standards. Sharper execution. More innovation. In a competitive global environment, ambition means nothing without discipline, creativity and excellence in execution. What I’m most proud of isn’t the round itself — it’s the people behind it. The long hours, the setbacks, the problem-solving, the energy invested in our adventure. This milestone belongs to our 250 employees around the world and to the partners who have chosen to walk alongside us, believing in the vision, committing to the journey, and helping us turn an idea into a global platform - thank you all! I feel grateful, energized and more convinced than ever that we have a rare opportunity ahead of us. One that not many organizations get. We’re just getting started. 🚀

Jake Perlman-Garr reposted thisJake Perlman-Garr reposted thisToday marks the global launch of Riftbound! It’s still a bit surreal that an idea a few of us had less than two years ago has become reality, and even more amazing is the amount of excitement and passion players globally have shown for Riftbound. As I look back and reflect on the journey, I can’t help but be thankful for all the amazing support and much-needed feedback along the way. From the ever-present focus on players and player needs from the Riot exec team, to the deep pool of talented designers we were able to tap for playtesting and validation. From our amazing group of artists who are all so, so passionate about bringing League and the champions to life, to our incredible friends in publishing that work their magic every day to connect with players in the most authentic way possible. Rioters came together from across the company to make Riftbound possible, and I truly believe that games like Riftbound are only possible at a company like Riot. Perhaps the most important is the feedback from players—critical feedback that enabled us to pause, reassess, and ensure that we nailed the key elements of this game. A big thank you to all of you from myself and the team. You are the reason we are making Riftbound and you are the reason we will continue to push the boundaries to make Riftbound even better in the future. Today, Riftbound is taking its first step as a global game, in what I’m hoping to be a very long journey with our players. Not everything will be perfect, but we’ve got some big plans in the works and we are always listening. The team and I couldn’t be more excited, and we hope you are too! Now let’s go play some Riftbound! #Riftbound #LeagueofLegends #TCG

Jake Perlman-Garr posted thisAfter four exhilarating years at Riot Games, I've left my role as Global Head of Corporate Development to move on to my next chapter. Up next for me: I'm beyond excited to share that I have joined Alex Iosilevich, Kevin Tsujihara, and Jeff Bewkes at Alignment Growth to lead the firm's games investing vertical! I feel truly lucky to be joining such an experienced team, building a firm with a mission that resonates with me deeply. Alignment was created to be a differentiated later stage investor led by a group of investors and operators looking to put their experience to work and capital in support of companies and entrepreneurs across verticals they know intimately in media, entertainment, sports, and gaming. Alignment’s existing investments include category leaders like Fever in live events, PMY Group in sports tech and services, and Wheelhouse in unscripted video content. I was drawn to this purpose as an operator and founder myself, and I'm eager to leverage my experience as a repeat founder and executive at a leading game studio to help in completing this quest. As a lifelong gamer, I remain passionate about this industry. In this new role, I look forward to supporting amazing founders as they build equally inspiring products that move gaming forward. While I'll be focused on the later stages, when companies begin to scale, my interests range across a number of categories, including game studios, platforms, technology, and publishers. If you're working on a company that might be a fit, please don't hesitate to reach out -- I'm excited to dig in! My DMs are open. P.S.: I want to give a special thanks to Marc Merrill, A. Dylan Jadeja, Abhi R., Mark Sottosanti, Tom Cadwell, Jack Calvi and the rest of the Riot leadership team. It's been the ride of a lifetime, and I'm eternally grateful for your steadfast friendship and support. GGWP. 👊

Jake Perlman-Garr reposted thisJake Perlman-Garr reposted thisI am thrilled to announce the launch of my new tech media brand, Upstarts Media, focused on the startup ecosystem 🎉 Upstarts is founded on the belief that startups are at their best when they challenge the status quo to achieve lasting impact. This mission is deeply personal to me – enough that I’m staking my career on it 📈 Ever since I started covering local New York startups in 2010, I've been most inspired as a reporter and storyteller by sharing founder journeys and early looks into world-changing startups before they’ve broken out. In a moment of Big Tech dominance and tech leaders in the White House, I believe these types of stories are increasingly overlooked. Across dozens of hours of market research and more than 25 calls with early audience members, you – my community – agreed: there’s a need for more in-depth coverage on startups, their funders, and the opportunities and challenges they face. Subscribe to the Upstarts newsletter hosted on Substack, and you'll get stories like that and much more in your inbox twice a week. We'll be shipping video interviews and a podcast later on, and are already hard at work on hosting high-touch Upstarts events. Read more about what I'm building here: https://lnkd.in/eTWbd4SN Thank you for your support and a hearty shoutout to my launch partner, Brex. I can't wait to get started!

Jake Perlman-Garr liked thisJake Perlman-Garr liked thisHard to believe it's been over ten years since I graduated from City University of Hong Kong. From a fresh graduate to co-founding a startup. Looking back, those years at CityU shaped how I see things and how I make decisions far more than I realised at the time. It's an incredible honour to receive the Outstanding Alumni Award from CityU Department of Information Systems. I couldn't accept it in person — I was in New York during the graduation ceremony — but last week I finally made it back, just in time for #backtoschool season! 🌷 I turned my talk in the Orientation Day into a "Choose Your Own Adventure": I laid out every fork I'd faced, made the students vote on what they would do, and only then showed them what I actually did. Turning down Tsinghua for CityUHK. Delaying graduation by a full year for an internship at Apple. Working at ByteDance while finishing a full-time MBA at the same time, when there was no precedent for it at the company. Then leaving all of it to build #Polyverse. Watching a room of 18-year-olds vote on my life choices was the most fun I've had on a stage in a long time. ;) I was also lucky enough to major in #GBSM (Global Business Systems Management), which allowed me to visit more than 30 countries before I even graduated. Exchanges in Singapore and Paris, work in San Francisco, business competitions in the UK and Australia, music tour in Vienna... all of these experiences shaped who I am today, and what kind of person I want to be. And I'm still doing work related to global business today! Thank you to all the professors and advisors who have supported me through this lifelong journey. Ron Kwok, Janet Yu, Tania Lau, Robert Davison, Joseph Kong, Chiamin Fung, Al Chung, Winnie Ting, and Chong (Alex) WANG -- thank you for everything back then and now! Ten years feels long and short at the same time. And to the freshmen: enjoy it, properly. Then go draw your own map! 🚇 #CityUHK #CityUniversityofHongKong #InformationSystems #CityUAlumni #FounderJourney #polyversestudio #polyverseentertainment

Jake Perlman-Garr reacted on thisJake Perlman-Garr reacted on thisHey there. Since I announced my retirement I’ve gotten a ton of comments and at least half a ton of private messages. Both are flattering and humbling. However, the number of messages is so large I’m overwhelmed and haven’t been able to respond to them. I like to think I’m not a jerk and my lack of response isnt, I hope, evidence that I am. At some point, after I’ve had some down time I’ll go back and check the messages out and respond to those that require a response. Sit tight.

The console response has been the real highlight. Launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with full cross-play was a major undertaking, but seeing console players flood into the quarantine zone proves the huge demand for high-stakes co-op. A huge thank you to our publishing team, Torn Banner, and, most importantly, the 1 million Responders holding down the line across every platform. #GreenManGaming #TornBanner #NoMoreRoomInHell2 #ConsoleGaming #1MillionPlayers #GamePublishing

Jake Perlman-Garr liked thisJake Perlman-Garr liked thisBig “news” Long Drink was acquired! (I know I’m a little late posting on social lol) What started as an idea in Helsinki among friends became the fastest-growing spirit brand in the world, now with 100 million cans drank yearly. But our dream has always been bigger: to turn the Finnish long drink into what Guinness is, a generational lifestyle brand. Over the years, we heard plenty of pitches from companies for how Long Drink could reach that next level. It wasn’t until we built a relationship with Mark Anthony Brands, the company behind White Claw, that we saw the right opportunity. They have the scale and experience to accelerate our vision and help make Long Drink a household name. A huge thank you to our fans, my co-founders, the entire LD team, and our investors for believing in Long Drink every step of the way. I couldn’t be more grateful for what we built together. Kippis! 🇫🇮

I said something on a podcast this week that I don't think I'd ever said out loud before. Probably a third of my time with founders isn't about the business at all. It's more like being a shoulder to cry on. Three senior people quit on the same day. A co-manufacturer botches a huge job and you lose your biggest account. An HR issue turns into a lawsuit out of nowhere. Nobody warns you about that side of it. Most of the people around the table with a founder have never actually run a company. They give advice, and it's not wrong, but it's arm's length. It doesn't come with the weight of having lived it. That's the part of this job nobody talks about. Not the term sheets. The 11pm calls when someone just needs to talk to a person who's been there. Had a great conversation about this and a lot more with Josh Stabinsky on Unit Economics, alongside my partner Mollye Santulli. Full episode: https://lnkd.in/e839e-BH

🚀 This month at LvlUp Ventures we’re investing in 100+ companies. Not over the next year. Not “by Q4.” This month. Why? Because the next iconic companies aren’t waiting for perfect timing. They’re being built right now — in dorm rooms, tiny apartments, co-working spaces, late at night after full-time jobs. And capital shouldn’t be the bottleneck to ambition. Because momentum loves speed. Because the best founders aren’t waiting for perfect market conditions. Because early belief changes trajectories. So instead of sitting on the sidelines debating spreadsheets for weeks, we’re choosing momentum. 👇 Drop your one-liner in the comments and I’ll DM you. #Startups #VentureCapital #VC #AngelInvesting #Founders #Entrepreneurship #StartupFunding #Investing #Innovation #BuildInPublic #SeedStage #EarlyStage #TechStartups #Fundraising #LevelUp

🚨NEW EPISODE: Recorded live at FUTURE TITANS 2026 - Jeff Perry of Carta sat down with the iconic Seth Levine, co-founder of Foundry. Seth has been in venture for 25 years, built Foundry from scratch as an emerging manager himself, and has backed about 50 emerging manager funds through his fund of funds. He has genuinely seen every side of this table. They went deep on building Foundry, why VCs are in the influence business, not the decision business, and why the concentration problem in venture is not only bad for LPs, but also for the innovation ecosystem overall. And why Seth's new book, Capital Evolution, is so important for the future of America. 🎧 Links to listen... Apple: https://lnkd.in/ehQUQ2EM Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eU4FExpg
