Gerald Brady shared thisLast week we hosted 15 amazing founders at Silicon Valley Bank's AI Showcase at our stunning Bryant Park offices in New York. As always, I'm blown away by the talent of the founders in the room and a massive thanks to everyone who presented. We've hosted our SVB Showcase events for over 16-years and we continue to be impressed at the vision and execution of the founders that present. SVB is all about making connections, and helping founders on their journey, and if last week was anything to go by, you are all going to knock it out of the park. Gerald Brady shared thisThe latest Silicon Valley Bank #StateofTheMarket report was published this morning and can be downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/gpsccJu9 As usual the SoTM report is packed with great insights, built off the back of more than 40-years of Silicon Valley Bank working with founders and investors, and more than 30 editions of the SoTM report. 2025 saw $340bn invested in US venture backed companies, the second highest amount ever invested. However, behind that headline number is a smaller number of companies being funded, with the top 1% of all venture deals accounting for one-third of all investment in 2025. Below is one of my favorite slides from the report, showing 47% of all venture funding in 2025 went to companies raising over $500m in the round, up from 20% in 2024, driven entirely by the surge in #AI investing. Well done to the team for a great report!

Gerald Brady reacted on thisGerald Brady reacted on this➡️ Here’s one not to miss: without enough compute, you’re simply not in the race You can already see signs of this emerging across the industry, with builders hitting usage limits and running into peak hour constraints as AI demand surges. I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating: in this next phase of AI, compute will determine who gets to build, scale, and compete. Cheers to Sam and Greg Brockman for seeing it early and acting decisively. We set the market with our Stargate initiative, and last fall’s compute deals. The foresight sets us up for long term success. Every day at OpenAI, I’m focused on securing next generation compute, and this recent $122B funding takes that to another level. We’ve spent the past 15 months+ extending our stack to meet the vertical wall of demand ahead of us, and it now spans multiple cloud partners Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon Web Services (AWS), CoreWeave, Google Cloud; multiple silicon platforms NVIDIA, AMD, AWS Tranium, Cerebras, and our own chip in partnership with Broadcom; and multiple data centers through partnerships with Oracle, SB Energy, and SoftBank Group Corp. Our job now is to deliver intelligence efficiently, at global scale. At pivotal moments like this, I reflect on the incredible team at OpenAI - our world-class research group pushing the frontier, alongside the teams working to make AI accessible to everyone. We build with our own tools, and this funding round proved that again as we used ChatGPT and Codex to do real work, fast with a lean (and not mean but quite kind and brilliant) team: ➡️ Managed 200+ investors with myriad back and forth with each ➡️ Compressed the timeline on raise to an impressive ~8 weeks We are now more focused than ever on execution, earning trust, and consistently turning capability into products that people depend on. Max steps into an investing role, as a partner, after a decade advising Battery’s cloud and data portfolio. Over the last 18 months, he’s become more active in Battery’s investments in ClickHouse, Databricks, Fundamental, Reflection AI and Quantum Art. As the former CEO of MongoDB, Max brings deep technical expertise and strategic insight shaped over multiple technology cycles. In his new role, Max will focus on investments in emerging AI, quantum computing and robotics/physical intelligence. Roland has been an investor at Battery since 2014, specializing in growth and later-stage investments across multiple sectors. His previous investments include Newforma and ServiceTitan, which went public on Nasdaq in late 2024, and he currently sits on the boards of MadCap Software, Inc., RetailNext, StoneEagle, Signiant and Workwell Technologies. He was also previously involved with Vidyard. Roland’s work with companies of varying levels of maturity highlights our multi-stage, thematic approach to the market. We're excited for Max and Roland to extend their deep industry knowledge and commitment to working closely with founders and management teams as they invest from Battery Ventures XV, our latest $3.25 billion fund.

Gerald Brady reacted on thisGerald Brady reacted on thisI don't understand why people pay (in time and/or money) to attend an in-person event only to stare at their phones the entire time*. But there's one way to combat that behavior: offer engaging, worthwhile content. At yesterday's Smart AI Leadership Summit hosted by Grace Gong, the CXO panel was exactly that. Yousuf Khan built an immediate rapport with panelists Parul Saini, Deepa Gopinath, Kevin S. Smith, and Patti Degnan. The panelists had fun and solid "how to sell to enterprise buyers" tips followed. If you're selling to the enterprise, know: *Enterprise-ready = scale stress-tested, not feature-complete* Don’t just prove the product works—prove it survives 10x → 100x → 1,000x scale. Enterprises care about logging, auditability, identity/access control, compliance (GDPR, SOC2, etc.), and “what breaks at 30,000 users across geographies.” If you can’t answer those before the first meeting, you’re not ready. *Procurement is flexibility + operational reality, not just product quality* Enterprise deals aren’t won on tech alone. They’re won on how you show up: flexible contracting (months, not just years), willingness to adapt to procurement realities, and integration into messy environments. Founders who walk in already understanding how the buyer operates earn instant credibility. *Support is the product in enterprise (human, not automated)* At scale, “AI-first support” breaks trust fast. Enterprises expect white-glove, real-time, human-in-the-loop support—especially during deployments. If you’re not willing to be on the 9pm go-live call, you’re not ready for the deal. Customer obsession is operational, not philosophical. There were many insightful panelists throughout the day but game recognizes game and this panel stood out. *Ok well I kinda get it. I don't like talking to people either. So I just stay home. 😆

Gerald Brady reacted on thisGerald Brady reacted on thisWe were proud to participate in the SEO Alternative Investments Conference in March, where our Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Aaron Holiday, spoke on a panel exploring the rise of AI-powered venture capital, something that we’ve been building in our internal VC Operating system for 12 years. The conversation emphasized how AI is reshaping how VCs source deals, evaluate opportunities, and support founders, which is unlocking new levels of speed, insight, and scale. Aaron highlighted 645’s proprietary in-house system Voyager, built from the ground up, and shared how Claude has been seamlessly integrated as a powerful support tool, becoming what we call “The 3rd Interface” into Voyager. Aaron shared, "the 645 Ventures team has been really excited about the third interface into our software, Voyager. Up to this point, there's only been two interfaces; you can log into the software directly, or use a Chrome extension that follows you around. But now, through Claude, we've built an MCP (Model Context Protocol) that allows us to now engage with Voyager using natural language and prompting." Grateful to be part of such a forward-looking discussion alongside other leaders in the space. The future of investing is being built now. #SEOAICON2026

Great to have John Bunney, Vinod Valloppillil and Minsoo Lee at the table alongside builders from Vapi, Inworld AI, MetaVoice, Bluejay, Boson AI and others! What stood out: watching leaders walk founders through the challenges they're working to solve in a candid discussion. This is where real signal emerges and follow-on conversations happen fast. Appreciate everyone who joined this. M12, Microsoft's Venture Fund will do more of these soon! ☎️🤖
