Polaris Plans to Spin Off Indian Motorcycle Business Polaris Inc., a leading power-sports vehicle maker, announced it will turn Indian Motorcycle into a standalone company by selling a majority stake to private equity firm Carolwood LP. Following the news, Polaris shares jumped 11% in after-hours trading 📈. @Mike Kennedy, an industry veteran with 26 years at Harley-Davidson Motor Company and leadership roles at RumbleOn and Vance & Hines, has been appointed CEO of the new independent Indian Motorcycle 🏁. The move comes as Polaris aims to streamline operations amid weaker demand and tariffs, while giving Indian Motorcycle greater operational freedom. The divestiture is expected to add $50 million to adjusted EBITDA and $1 to adjusted earnings per share, with the deal expected to close in Q1 2026. BMW Group and Stellantis are stepping in to offset the loss of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, offering rebate programs designed to keep electric vehicle prices from spiking. GM board member Jon McNeill agrees with EVinfo.net that the U.S. EV market can continue growing without federal subsidies. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/gh8uqnm8 Stellantis is extending incentives across its full range of electric and plug-in hybrid models, including vehicles from Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Wagoneer, with rebates available only on current inventory while supplies last. BMW is offering $7,500 off its fully electric lineup and $5,000 for the 750e xDrive PHEV sedan through BMW Financial Services, with deliveries required by November 1, while Stellantis rebates expire November 3. Hyundai is responding to the credit’s expiration with substantial price cuts and up to $7,500 in bonus cash on the Ioniq 5, along with competitive lease deals to maintain demand. Ford and GM are keeping the $7,500 benefit alive for lease customers by having their financing arms purchase vehicles before the federal credit expired and then passing the savings through in lease deals, with Ford’s program running through 2025 and GM coordinating similar efforts with dealers. Rivian is also offering a $6,500 lease rebate on select R1T and R1S models for deliveries before October 31. GM board member Jon McNeill believes the U.S. EV market can continue growing without federal subsidies, citing increasing model variety, lower-priced vehicles, and lessons from Europe, where EV adoption persisted after incentives were rolled back. EVinfo.net agrees, although the subsidies were important for the US to compete with China. McNeill notes that Americans now have 65 EV models available, and when hybrids are included, roughly one in four new cars sold is electrified, with last quarter’s surge boosting GM’s sales significantly. He also highlights the growing utility of EVs through bidirectional charging, which allows vehicles like his Silverado EV to power homes and reduce the need for generators, and he anticipates wider adoption as utilities experiment with battery-sharing incentives. Colorado is raising its Vehicle Exchange rebates to $9,000 for new EVs and $6,000 for used EVs starting November 3, targeting low- and middle-income residents trading in older or high-emission vehicles, helping maintain momentum in EV adoption as federal support diminishes and state tax credits are gradually phased down. Ford and GM are stepping in to soften the blow of the $7,500 federal EV lease credit’s expiration on September 30. While the incentive technically ended, both automakers have crafted programs to preserve its impact for several more months. Using their finance arms, Ford and GM are making down payments on EVs already in dealer inventory before the cutoff, qualifying those vehicles for the credit. Dealers can then lease them out with lower payments, effectively extending the benefit to customers. General Motors is working with dealers on a similar plan. This approach is designed to soften an anticipated slowdown in EV demand now that federal subsidies are no longer guaranteed for new leases or purchases. Analysts have long cautioned that incentives remain central to making EVs financially attractive, and this move underscores how dependent the industry has been on policy support. But that is changing quickly. Automakers even consulted with IRS officials to ensure compliance, highlighting the lengths they will go to maintain momentum. But the bigger picture extends beyond temporary fixes. EV adoption is expected to keep growing thanks to falling battery costs, lower lifetime ownership expenses, and a flood of new models across every segment. Affordable, practical options like the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt and Nissan Motor Corporation Leaf are set to accelerate mainstream adoption. The new Leaf, for instance, offers up to 303 miles of range on a fresh platform, while the Bolt leverages Ultium technology for improved performance at a lower price point. Even as subsidies phase out, consumers are increasingly motivated by economics, choice, and practicality. For Ford and GM, these stopgap lease incentives buy time, but the long-term trajectory is clear: EVs are becoming the normal choice, not the niche one, and will keep growing fast. No doubt.
