Erik Brydges shared thisThought for the week: seller agents are transforming how buyers can interact with the Publisher's tech stack, immediately for Direct IO executions, and coming later for Programmatic. Bringing Sellers and Buyers closer together to execute on their terms at scale is the continued evolution of a very important industry theme that benefits Publishers and Buyers alike. Pubs are able to showcase their inventory and audience and respond to activation requests within an agentic environment. On the buyside, AI is lowering barriers of entry for Advertisers and Agencies to build powerful tools themselves to execute media directly on their terms. It also demonstrates the importance of scaled supply side tech like SpringServe, providing that critical foundation to build on and execute from, giving Pubs the optionality to now engage across all different types of Demand execution, now including AI agents. Very cool to be leading the way here!Erik Brydges shared thisMagnite is taking a meaningful step into the future of AI-driven advertising with the launch of our seller agent in SpringServe. Erik Brydges liked thisErik Brydges liked thisThis is the building at Apple where I worked on the software video compression algorithm for the first version of QuickTime. Today is Apple’s 50th Anniversary and the story about our work to build QuickTime is featured by The Verge in an exclusive article “The Mad Dash to Build the Future of Multimedia” (or How the Invention of QuickTime Changed Computers Forever”.) I worked as a Research Scientist in Apple’s Advanced Technology Group at the time. Developing the code was an amazing and magical experience. The article in the Verge is based on dozens of first party interviews from product managers, engineers, and scientists involved in building new technologies at Apple in between the first and second time Steve Jobs was CEO; the effort took several years, culminating in the book “Inventing the Future Bit by Bit”. The book and the post from the The Verge celebrate the work by those who built the foundations of QuickTime and with whom the collaboration to create this product was a key highlight of my career. So honored to work with colleagues to make it happen Gavin Miller Steve Perlman Doug Camplejohn Michael Mills Bruce Leak Peter Hoddie Duncan Kennedy Jim Batson John Worthington Andrew Soderberg Lee Mighdoll Chris Thorman Tyler Peppel John Sculley David Nagel Galyn Susman Philip Ivanier Casey King Gary Woodcock Rachel Cohen Thomas Ryan Mark Krueger The video compression algorithm we worked on became the Apple Video Codec and QuickTime is still going strong with billions of downloads to date, hundreds of millions of users, and an integral role in digital media for decades. I've included a brief excerpt below from the article which is for subscribers of The Verge. The book was written by John Buck 步克强 who had a passion to tell the story of how technologies were built and taken to market by Apple across key products like QuickTime, Powerbook, and more (info below). “It’s 1989. To play a video, listen to a song, or show photos on a desktop computer requires bolting on expensive hardware, built by a different company, using different software. There are no standards, no portability, no sharing. A dozen people at Apple changed that. They helped turn all kinds of computers into creative tools for millions of people. It started with a tiny concept project within Apple’s secret Advanced Technology Group (ATG). [We] built some prototypes of what the Media Player should look like and do. The first time I saw it play a short clip from the movie The Wizard of Oz, I thought, “This is going to change the world. No question.” https://lnkd.in/eU5GHxBJ https://books.by/john-buck https://lnkd.in/e5_JhFZZ

Erik Brydges liked thisVoter files are a lagging indicator. And campaigns are over-indexing on them instead of using digital signals available in real time. Here's what I mean. Right now, gas prices are up more than 20% in two weeks. The Iran conflict has shut the Strait of Hormuz and crude oil is above $100 a barrel. Everyday Americans who have never tracked energy markets are watching the price climb when they pull up to the pump — and they're likely getting angrier. Some of them will be in the voter file. Many aren't. But even the ones who are may never have engaged with a political issue like this before. But these potential voters are all over the bid stream. Modeling often misses someone who has never voted. Campaigns are leaving an entire layer of persuadable voters on the table by only focusing on the voter file. I saw the same thing happen after the Dobbs decision in June 2022. A massive, sudden spike in interest in a political issue from audiences that had never voted in a midterm. Women who lived in lifestyle and parenting content suddenly surfacing with a dramatic interest in a political issue that drove them to vote in waves that November. The voter file didn't catch that signal in real time. But the bid stream had it. The mechanics: → Contextual targeting: catch them on the issue content they're consuming right now → Bid stream behavioral signals: recency + frequency of civic-adjacent content = intent → Cross-domain sequencing: the pattern from lifestyle → local news → issue content is a strong fingerprint This isn't about abandoning voter files. It's about building a discovery layer on top of them. The campaigns that figure this out will reach persuadable voters before their opponents even know those voters exist. Have you seen this pattern in your campaigns? Curious what others are observing in the data right now.

Erik Brydges liked thisErik Brydges liked thisDay 3 of 3 at the Pollies Conference — and one thing is clear: the future of political advertising is being built right now. Closed out the conference with a strong panel led by Erik Brydges (Magnite), alongside Andrew Mullins (IMGE), Ryan Fanning (DSPolitical), and Thomas F. (National Media), focused on what’s actually working in today’s political landscape. Big takeaway: efficiency, transparency, and control of the supply path are everything. From leveraging platforms like Magnite’s ClearLine for direct publisher integrations, to reducing unnecessary tech fees and CPMs — the message was consistent: 👉 Smarter supply paths = stronger reach, better performance, and less waste. Case studies showed that narrowing ad exchanges, prioritizing direct relationships, and being intentional with supply curation are driving real results, while reducing fraud and increasing measurable impact. Agencies across the board are leaning into more strategic, data-driven approaches as we head into 2026… and it’s clear the playbook is evolving fast. The week wrapped with the Pollie Awards, and a big congratulations to my good friend Christian Ulvert and the team at EDGE Communications for winning “Down-Ballot Campaign of the Year.” A well-deserved recognition for a campaign that truly blended field, messaging, and media into a winning strategy for Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins. CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (August 5, 2014) – The Inter-collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) has named its 2014 All-Academic Sailing Team. The All-Academic Sailing Team recognizes collegiate sailors who have achieved excellence in national and inter-conference competition as well as excelling at the highest academic level for the 2013 – 2014 academic year. The All-Academic Sailing Team was inaugurated in 2006. A nominated sailor must have a minimum of a 3.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale), junior or senior academic standing and they must be a key starter or reserve on a school’s sailing team.
A seven-person committee comprised of representatives from conferences in the ICSA evaluates the nominated sailors. The committee uses the same competition data that is used to determine the ICSA All-American Team, which honors sailors for their exceptional competitive performance.
The committee can select up to ten scholar athletes for both the First and Second All-Academic Teams who have proven to be highly competitive both academically and in competition. This year, for the third time, the committee has also named an All-Conference Team. This team recognizes exemplary sailors who are also great representatives, but were not able to be included on the First or Second Teams.
This year’s All-Academic Team is comprised of 10 First Team members, 10 Second Team members and 34 All-Conference members.
“It was a challenging task for the committee to select these teams as there are so many qualified student athletes," says Matt Lindblad, head coach of the MIT Varsity Sailing Team and chairman of the ICSA All-Academic Sailing Team Selection Committee.

Watch this space. One of the more interesting developments in digital safety policy right now is underway in Sacramento. POLITICO Decoded got the breaking news this morning: Peter Chandler of Internet Works (a Middle Tech coalition that includes Reddit, Yelp, Pinterest, Ebay and others) has announced it's supporting the app store age verification approach to protecting kids online. Under Assemblymember Buffy Wicks’ leadership, California is developing very promising legislation that the coalition hopes to support soon: “If we get this right in California, which is home to many of our member companies’ headquarters and to countless others,” Chandler said, “this has the potential to be a model at the federal level.” #TechPolicy #KidsOnlineSafety #AgeVerification #PublicAffairs

H/Advisors Abernathy recently found that CEOs who actively use digital channels now outpace lawmakers in shaping public policy agendas. That's a massive advantage in a complex public affairs landscape. Our 'Social In The C-Suite, Public Affairs Edition' research showed that: 🎯 Executives strengthen their credibility on public policy when they focus on business impact over political ideology. 🎯 CEOs can carefully use digital channels to discuss complex topics positioning themselves as pragmatic, solutions‑driven voices in an increasingly noisy policy landscape. 🎯 Policymakers are taking notice, as they are among the most likely to follow CEOs on social media. Now is the time to aligned your executive communications and public affairs strategy. Download the full report: https://lnkd.in/gPBtribA

Nice little post here about integrating AI into public affairs. The big takeaway: "The firms that will lead in this next chapter for our industry will not be those that resist it nor those that deploy it indiscriminately. They will be the ones that integrate it deliberately." https://lnkd.in/ghMmDYHf

Everyone is abuzz about Claude right now so as part of Muck Rack's Generative Pulse "What is AI Reading?" research, my bud Matt Dzugan took a look at how Claude cites media and found something super intersting: Claude’s top cited outlets have about half the average audience size of ChatGPT’s. Claude appears to draw more heavily from niche and specialized publications. And its recency window stretches further than many assume: stories published a few weeks ago can still meaningfully shape outputs. For PR pros, this is a signal to keep pushing trade and vertical media. These placements may have more downstream impact in AI systems. Each model is building its own view of the information ecosystem. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gq7rAY6U

I recently spoke with Marni Puente, SVP/Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, at SAIC about all things measurement and AI in the latest episode of Attribution Nation Podcast. Marni has a bit of a unique perspective in that her primary audience is the government... and when you're marketing to the government, it's a bit different than marketing to businesses or consumers. I love the the way that Marni has broken down their KPIs into three distinct buckets. Then, from there, the KPIs in each bucket are established and then measured. This is a great way of focusing on the metrics that matter for your organization, and the way that your organization goes to market. Listen to the full episode on Spotify, Apple and YouTube. A new article from Sarah Aryanpur Burgess in diginomica looks at how ALLO Communications is helping connect Midwestern communities to an AI-enabled future. The piece is a useful reminder that the AI economy is not only about software and models. It also depends on the physical networks that allow businesses, schools, and households to access cloud platforms, data services, and emerging AI tools. What stands out in the story is how ALLO combines fiber infrastructure with Calix’s platform and managed services to run its network and deliver modern customer experiences. The approach reflects a broader shift happening across the telecom sector. Providers are moving beyond simply delivering connectivity and are using platforms like Calix, purpose‑built for communications service providers—unifying cloud, data, AI, and managed services, to simplify operations, personalize experiences, and drive sustainable growth for their communities. ALLO’s leadership sees AI as the next step in that evolution. As CEO Brad Moline explains in the article, the challenge now is making the most of the opportunities AI creates for service providers. That is where industry moves such as the transition from Communications Service Providers (CSPs) to Communications Experience Providers (CXPs) and AI-native platforms like Calix One become important. The real opportunity is not just faster networks. It is using AI and software platforms to transform their business models for the AI era and deliver better customer experiences to the communities they serve. https://lnkd.in/eWsuUy8h

"AI is no longer a tech issue. It is now shaping power, policy, and public perception all at once, and that intersection is where influence is shifting fastest." That is my key insight from the off-the-record conversation Curley Company and GlobalWIN hosted this week with Axios reporters Ashley Gold and Maria Curi, facilitated by Heather Knox. We brought together leaders across business, government, policy, and communications to understand how AI is reshaping decisions that will define the next few years. Signals that matter right now: * AI is colliding with every major pressure point. Antitrust, elections, national security, and global market power are now part of one story. This convergence is changing how companies and policymakers respond and it is transforming AI from a technical issue into a competitiveness issue with real policy consequence. * States are becoming the center of gravity while federal policy searches for footing. For companies operating nationally, state rules are arriving faster and will matter as much as federal frameworks. * Fear is outpacing facts in the workforce conversation. There is no transparent data on job impacts. That lack of clarity is shaping public perception faster than any policy response. * Safety is now the dominant battleground word. How it is defined, and who gets to define it, is influencing regulation and political narratives across both parties. Thank you to Axios’ Ashley Gold and Maria Curi for sharing frontline insights; to our partners GlobalWIN, Helen Milby and Angeli Chawla for co-hosting; and to Heather Knox, Jennifer Curley, and our Curley Company team for creating a room where leaders could think together, candidly. If you are navigating AI at the intersection of policy, reputation, and business strategy, we can help you make sense of what comes next. #AI #PublicAffairs #Influence #Policy #Leadership

That didn't take long. One week in and the future is bright: Two new clients are already on board with our newly formed Media Intelligence Team: 1) One of the largest non-profit health systems in the United States with nearly 100 hospitals, serving millions of people each year. They've signed up for executive coaching with one of our go-to veterans, Suzanne Kennedy. 2) I'm headed back to my roots in Maryland with Chicago investigative reporter & anchor Ben Bradley for his first JPC project: We'll co-instruct at a university about recent critical incidents in higher education. What do campuses need to do to better prepare for and communicate with their multiple audiences on their worst day? We'll break down crisis comms success stories and examples where they could have done better and facilitate a discussion with campus leadership. Read James Hercher’s latest in AdExchanger, “Alphabet Can Outgrow Everything Else, But Can It Outgrow Ads?” My immediate thought: would Judge Mehta still hang his hat on AI as meaningful competitive pressure today? In the Google antitrust ruling, Judge Mehta expressly cited increased search competition as a reason behind his chosen remedy. Today, hearing a lot of "Google has already won." And with this article, AI doesn’t look like an external disruptor so much as something being folded into the same ad-driven ecosystem. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/eRw2ayCv

🚨 The regulatory winds in tech are shifting — and for once, they’re not blowing against innovation. The FCC and FTC are signaling a pivot away from punishment and toward competition, security, and innovation enablement. Translation: we might be entering an era where agencies act less like referees and more like catalysts. For tech leaders, that means the playbook changes — the fear of “what if the regulators don’t like it?” might be replaced by “how fast can we responsibly scale it?” This isn’t deregulation; it’s recalibration. The smartest companies won’t just celebrate the lighter touch — they’ll use it to experiment faster, build smarter, and prove they can self-govern better than the rules ever could. #TechPolicy #Innovation #Competition #Leadership
