Ellana Espinoza shared thisHave you reached out to a former colleague lately? Faye was an intern on my team a lifetime ago. Today, she’s one of the marketing leaders and friends I respect most. When she’s in Oklahoma, or I’m in NYC, we get together. She challenges me and sparks ideas. It takes effort to stay in touch and can feel awkward, but it’s worth it. Even a simple “this article reminded me of you” text goes a long way. (This feels like a silly tip to give because it’s so basic, but it opened lots of doors for me and helped build solid friendships.)

Ellana Espinoza shared thisSuch a fun few days representing Cotality at Sagent Ignite in Phoenix, on the main stage and in the exhibit hall. We’ve had lots meaningful convos with clients, and it’s exciting to think about the future of mortgage servicing we’re building together. One more day to go! Kristina Stewart, CMB®, CML, Amanda Thornton — Kudos to Stefan Sowder and team Sagent for putting on an excellent event. 👏

Since then, our brand has taken shape across our people, our platforms, and the moments that bring it to life. Ellana Espinoza shared thisAll of these, especially... "Sure feel free to release it... but that's not a launch." 💥Ellana Espinoza shared this10 things I'd never do as a product marketer: After many trials and tribulations as a PMM and now as a coach to PMMs navigating their dream jobs and leadership roles...here’s my personal “anti-playbook.” Some lessons came the hard way. Some I wish someone told me earlier. Ok may be they are not always NEVER, but they are things I avoid. :) Here we go.. 1️⃣ Launch just because a PM told me to. No clear problem and solution validation = me pushing back. Let's make sure we do the right research first. The CEO tells you you need to ship it NOW? Sure feel free to release it... but that's not a launch. 2️⃣ Wait for product to hand me the roadmap. At one point, I accepted the “product will tell you when it’s ready” model. That killed PMM’s ability to shape strategy. So bring the research insights and practively shape the roadmap. Go one step further and create a "marketing roadmap" and not just default to a product roadmap. 3️⃣ Say yes without understanding the ‘why’. Clarifying the problem is how you protect your time and build trust. I see PMMs as internal GMs - who asks lots of questions and help other teams shape strategy. 4️⃣ Assume sales will use the messaging if I just “send the deck.” Great enablement = repetition, relevance, and relationships. And tailoring content delivery to what the audience actually needs. 5️⃣ Forget internal marketing. If internal teams don’t get it, the market won’t either. 30% of a PMM's job should be internal marketing. 6️⃣ Write copy that speaks to the product, not the problem. Your feature is not the hero. Your buyer is. Emma Stratton's Value, benefit, feature framework is a good one to live by. 7️⃣ Spray across every channel without focus. 1–2 channels will drive 80% of your results for your launch (like everything else in life). Be ruthless. 8️⃣ Confuse being busy with being strategic. Real impact comes from prioritization and saying no. You win and become valuable by doing few things extremely well, not by doing everything in a mediocre way. 9️⃣ Stay silent in exec meetings. There were times I softened my POV to avoid conflict. But then I missed chances to position PMM as the voice of market truth. I’d never again hold back hard truths. Respectful dissent is part of PMM’s job. 🔟 Forget that I’m a business strategist first. Messaging, GTM, enablement - these are tools to drive revenue. Not tasks to check off. I teach this mindset every day to clients. 👉 Which one resonated most with you? Drop your # or share your own “never again” PMM lesson. i'd love to hear it. :) #productmarketing #careergrowth #pmmlife #coaching

We spent three days in Carlsbad with industry leaders, innovators, and changemakers diving into the future of housing, mortgage, data, and technology. Ellana Espinoza shared thisThis community has been a great resource to me over the years.Ellana Espinoza shared thisAnnouncing: Open Membership Window As you probably know, we’ve been an invite-only community for a while now. We've focused on protecting the culture that’s made this space so valuable for so many. In that time, we’ve grown slowly and intentionally, and it’s worked. The group is strong, engaged, and grounded in mutual support. But we also know that access shouldn’t depend on knowing the right person. So we're going to open things up temporarily and make it easier to join. If you’re a mom with experience working in tech, whether you're currently employed, on a break, transitioning, or figuring out what's next, we’d love to have you. No invite required. Starting on May 1: 1. Go to our Facebook group (unavailable before 5/1): https://lnkd.in/gpVm55DZ 2. Tap or click Join Group 3. Answer the membership questions 4. Copy/paste the url to our Google form and fill it out 5. Wait for us to review your request and make a membership decision. That's it! As a reminder, our membership requirements are that you must: - work in tech now or in the past. The group is not for tech hobbyists, students, or others trying to break into tech. Working in tech is defined as: - having any role at a tech company; - or a tech role at a non-tech company (e.g sales at a software company, developer at a bank, etc). - not identify as a man (Facebook filters limit us beyond identifying profiles marked explicitly as female. If you're non-binary, please send a message to our page before applying so we can manually process your application). - identify as a mom (including being pregnant, someone who's lost a pregnancy/child, stepmoms). Depending on how this goes, we may open again in the future. For now, this is a rare chance to join a community that has grown thoughtfully over eight years. If you’ve been waiting, this is your moment. And if you know someone who’s been looking for a space like this, feel free to share.

Ellana Espinoza liked thisEllana Espinoza liked this“Be professional!” “Don’t be friends with clients!” “Don’t tell them what you 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 think” “The client is always right.” UGH. What a drag. Why do all this hard work to build a business just to create one where you don’t actually like the people you work with? Why take the harder path of entrepreneurship just to end up hating what you do or who you do it with? This is me walking out of birthday drinks with a friend… who happens to be a client. And there’s another client right behind me. 😂 Somewhere along the way, we decided “professional” had to mean distant. That being good at business meant keeping people at arm’s length. I don’t buy it. Especially in a world with an abundance of polished, curated, AI-generated, 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 bs. I want the people closest to me, and the people I hire, to be real with me. • Tell me when my idea sucks. • Tell me when I’m overthinking it. • Tell me what you’re seeing that I’m not. • Let me have access to your brain, not just the sanitized, client-approved version of it. Some of the women entrepreneurs I’ve met through business have become close friends, and those relationships have genuinely changed my life. The conversations shuffle effortlessly from parenting to business problems to ridiculous ideas to money to what we’re building next to where we should travel and back to business again. Those are the tables I want to be at. And honestly, those are the people I want to build a business around. • I can be professional without being impersonal. • I can have boundaries without keeping people at a distance. • I can take the work seriously without taking myself so damn seriously. I didn’t build my own business so I could recreate someone else’s version of professionalism. I built it so I could choose the work, choose the culture, and choose the people I get to do it with. Turns out, liking your clients is a pretty great business strategy. Courtney Ramos-Fincher Anna McBroom Angela Muir Kelsie Downs

Ellana Espinoza liked thisEllana Espinoza liked thisI’m heading to San Francisco the week of September 8, and I’d love to meet more of the people building product marketing there! My 3AM Recruiting co-founder, Jonathan Pipek 🔱 , and I are actively recruiting for multiple opportunities with early-stage startups in San Francisco. We would especially love to connect with: • Founding PMMs • Heads and leaders of product marketing • GTM leads wearing multiple hats at an early-stage company On the evening of September 10, we’re hosting a relaxed dinner and drinks mixer in downtown San Francisco. It’ll be a chance to meet Jonathan and me, connect with other startup and product marketing leaders, and hear more about the opportunities we’re working on. If this sounds like you, send me a DM and I’ll share more details. I’d love to meet you while I’m in town! P.S. I’ll also be at the Product Marketing Summit that week. If you see me there, please come say hi! p.s. photo may be cheesy but it surely will be fun!

Ellana Espinoza reacted on thisEllana Espinoza reacted on thisOur UX team just wrapped another incredible and successful UX Summit here at Cotality in Dallas, TX! This summit was packed with truly insightful sessions. My favorite though was the team from Precocity, LLC. Engaging and learning from another UX team, understanding their successes and struggles, helped ground my thinking and outlook on the UX industry as a whole. #BeVulnerable But as valuable as those sessions were, the true magic of these summits is the space it creates for connection. It’s in the shared meals, the freestyle dinners, and the side conversations where camaraderie is built, friendships are strengthened, and our company culture grows even stronger. I can never spend enough time with Rohnak Habeeb or Shay Sheedeh (UXMC). We have history and connection that can never be unwound. Events like this are more than just a meeting of minds—they are a reminder of the amazing, creative, and passionate people I’m proud to call my colleagues. It’s this team and the extended team of peers around Cotality that has kept me around for over 20 years. Feeling energized and inspired! Until next year! #UX #UserExperience #TeamBuilding #CompanyCulture #Cotality #UXSummit
