Edwin S. shared thisIn the middle of hosting Admingling events in Texas last week, I learned just how much COVID-19 was going to impact our goals for 2020. With a sinking feeling, the OfficeNinjas team and I realized that these were going to be the last in-person events we’d be hosting for some time. But undeterred, we came together, worked through multiple scenarios, and did what we do best — accepted the challenge and got creative with solutions. (Big props to Kristin Sgroi, Samantha Ward, Allie Haen, Susette Solórzano, Shannon Lippert, Sarah Dunbar, Barbara Grealish, Ali Berger, Jenessa Connor, Nancy C.) That means every slack channel, meeting, internal doc and dashboard completely open and viewable by the public 24/7. Would you want this? If I get 500 likes on this post - I’m doing it. Let's dive deeper into what it would mean 👇 — Everyone in B2B is running a Founder Led Marketing / build in public playbook (or is thinking about it). This means they’re sharing metrics, data and takeaways on an intermittent basis in a vulnerable and open way. But, I’m thinking of doing something a little different: Truly open sourcing the entire build in public journey for Helply. Truman show style. This means making every single thing that happens at Helply publicly accessible and archived in real time. What does this look like? - Every meeting recorded and posted - Every strategy and internal doc public and available as a template for you to use at your startup - All reporting dashboards viewable in real time - Same goes for: financials, slack channels, notion docs, etc Full, radical transparency. Everything out in the open. Every single thing that pertains to Helply becomes completely public, with real-time view access to anyone and everyone at all times. And, made completely available (and templated) for you to use at your own startup. Most importantly, it would be organized in a way that is easily searchable and value driven for other founders. This is taking building in public to another level. It would be the first time in history a startup has documented and publicly shared its entire journey in real time right from the start. — The goal: To provide blueprints and share the process of building a B2B SaaS startup with other B2B founders all over the world. From A to Z. If Bryan Johnson is the most measured man in history. I want to become the most publicly transparent startup ever created. Right now this is just a thought (one I’m extremely serious about and actively considering). But the question becomes: Do you want this? Would you prefer the intermittent TL;DR where I share updates, data, financials and spare you the nitty gritty? (IMO, the day to day “nitty gritty’ is where all the juice is, but that’s just my opinion.) I’m happy to do either, my goal is to provide maximum value. What do you think? Is this worth during? Pano is a climate tech company with a mission to mitigate wildfire threats while protecting lives, property, and the environment. This is my dream job, and I couldn’t be more excited!! :) It scores an A+ on my 3 criteria: superb people, impactful mission, and hairy challenges. (1) People. Everyone I met during the interviews was simply amazing. I have a world-class boss (Sonia Kastner) and will partner with an incredible group of very seasoned, super smart, and highly mission-driven teammates and mentors (Ryan White Lina Rizzo Brad Ferkol Arvind Satyam Michael Golub Jade Van Doren). Thank you all for the support! (2) Mission. I’m proud to work in a company that aims to keep our forests and cities safe. I’ve seen the consequences of wildfires firsthand in Galicia and California, and with climate change on the rise, it’s sadly happening more frequently everywhere (Canada, Maui, Tenerife, etc). Altman and Derek Halliday for giving me this amazing opportunity. HOVER was the most significant leadership experience of my life and I loved creating new tech like HOVER’s SaaS and eCommerce businesses. And above all, the best part of my journey was working and learning with my incredible extended team, and with my amazing peers, mentors, and clients. So, how can I be smiling when I’m about to be diagnosed with Stage IV prostate cancer? This picture was taken on November 10, 2017, shortly before I went under anesthesia for a biopsy. The results: Stage IV prostate cancer with metastases to my sit bones. At the time of my diagnosis, the five-year survival rate was less than ten percent. Now, six years later, I’m coming to the end of what’s known as “standard of care,” all the treatments known to have benefits and approved by insurance. I’m still smiling. The woman who took the picture is Michele Taipale. We’d met only two months before. We’re happily married now. I’m smiling because, though I didn’t know I knew it then, love is the most important thing in life, and I’ve found a love to last the rest of my mine. Sadly, there is no cure for cancer. I’ve been experimenting with a clinical trial of one. So far, no response. The prognosis is dim. That’s why I’ve decided to give my legacy away. Edwin S. reacted on thisIn March 2020, I had to "stop" working for OfficeNinjas on the Day 1 of my new contract, it did not happen, it was the worst timing with Covid and their in-person events. Yet Nancy C. kept in touch with me all along. Two years later, with a new OfficeNinjas setup, they welcomed me back into the team. My collaboration with her and partner Edwin S. changed me forever. They completely refined leadership, empathy, culture, doing business, growing through learning. Beyond speeches, they showed us that being vulnerable is a strength. They gave me a new hope, the belief that work and personal life can coexist in harmony and nourish each other. I am so proud of them and of the bold, difficult decision that they just made and I wish them the best for their new chapter. Reading their announcement below is interesting for any entrepreneur. We talked about the power of Black people & Black media as well as how to utilize unconventional strategies to tap in (and give back) to Black culture. Every single Frito-Lay marketer was in the building, including the CMO. I am grateful for partners who not only have made commitments to Black media but who are also willing to take the time to learn & understand what it takes to get it right and be transformative for our community. Salute Kimberly Scott (who has been an incredible champion), Marie Sang and the entire Frito-Lay team for being great partners and having us there. I’m thrilled to share Earthshot Ventures most recent investment, Unlimited Industries! Unlimited is an AI-native construction company that both designs and builds. Its platform can generate and evaluate hundreds of thousands of design configurations in parallel, automatically identifying optimal layouts for cost, safety, and performance before construction begins. Why did we invest? Solving a real need we know well: Over the last decade, we have worked with hundreds of companies that are ready to deploy their technology, but struggle with slow construction timelines and cost overruns. Unlimited makes it feasible for emerging infrastructure companies to bring projects to life reliably and efficiently. Massive market potential: The EPC market is ~$800B. While this entire market is not addressable from day one, early adopters will pave the way for the mass market, enabling massive possible scale over time. Exceptional team: The company is led by Alex Modon, a repeat founder and multidisciplinary engineer. To accelerate the company, Alex teamed up with Tara Viswanathan and Jordan Stern, who previously built and scaled Rupa Health as the founder/CEO and first teammate respectively, from zero to millions in revenue before its successful nine figure acquisition in 2024. Software is eating the world, and AI will eat engineering: Software engineering is increasingly being augmented and automated by AI, aided by large repositories of coding data like Github. Companies that can create proprietary datasets, like Unlimited’s burgeoning catalogue of projects, will gain defensibility through data moats.
