He is a legend - look him up! CEO of the first internet IPO, member of Australian Parliament, badass drummer, philanthropist, father, brother and and and. Two weeks earlier, my friend Owen (56) died. Owen Van Natta was a one-of-a-kind, the one who always showed up. First early VP, Amazon under Bezos, COO of Facebook, and and and always showed up: the dinner, the hospital, the ordinary Tuesday. Dialogue as the main road, with off-ramps that are clearly marked. The monologue. The diatribe. The rhetoric aimed at an audience that is not in the room. The argument, the only detour with an on-ramp back. And the fight, the lowest road, where the pavement runs out. That piece described where conversations go. 𝙷𝚊𝚙𝚙𝚒𝚗𝚎𝚜𝚜 𝙸𝚜 𝙽𝚘𝚝 𝙿𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚜𝚞𝚛𝚎 How to move from instant gratification to deep life satisfaction I want to talk about two feelings people confuse constantly, chase interchangeably, and experience completely differently in the body. 𝑷𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒔 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒊𝒕𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇. It is short-lived. It is visceral. It takes rather than gives. Pleasure often happens alone, in a room, with a substance, with a screen. Questions stay expensive ! 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐈𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐱 David Wallace-Wells posed a question to Dr. Rachael Bedard on The Opinions and then handed the same question to his readers: what does your health data mean to you? I have been sitting with that question in exam rooms since 2002. Most days it walks in as a request for a test. Most days my work is to slow the request down long enough to ask what we are hoping to learn. Their conversation opened with a fight. A San Francisco company announced a consumer whole-body imaging service. Doctors pushed back. Patients in pre-visit or follow-up stages of healthcare respond to questions structured by a provider for objective signs and subjective symptoms, and may view questions and responses with associated alerts or status updates in a consolidated display that provides patient graphic images and comments about conditions.
