This was by far my most productive Cannes experience, but nothing tops the time we spent with amazing young talent sharing truth. We had the best exec mentors - but, truly, we were the mentees. Thank you, Aaron Yearwood , for the kind words, and thank you to Lisa💫 Goodchild for bringing us together.Stephanie Watson shared thisEvery session I attended in Cannes last week was special… but if you asked me to pick one that stood out the most, it had to be the Mediaocean Yacht. We were served breakfast by a Michelin-starred chef, surrounded by the French Riviera and some of the brightest minds in global media. In attendance were executives from Comcast The Walt Disney Company WPP Innovid Mediaocean and more, all taking time to pour into the next generation. One of the morning’s most meaningful elements was the speed mentoring sessions. We had intimate group discussions with senior leaders, where we were encouraged to ask questions and share our own stories. I was selected to present on behalf of my group (professional yapper duties😂), and we spoke about: 🔹 The importance of accountability in the digital age — ensuring that corporations and individuals are held responsible for harmful practices, even when they’ve historically been swept under the rug. 🔹 The power of audacity — believing that we deserve to occupy space at the table, even (and especially) when we’re the only ones who look like us in the room. To close, we all contributed to a dedicated “Advice to Your Younger Self” wall. This was a shared space filled with collective wisdom for everyone coming up behind us. Simple, but powerful. Deeply grateful for mornings like this where community, creativity, and purpose intersect. A very special shoutout goes to Stephanie Dorman who put this event together. People often say that the youth are the future but when it’s time to put their money where their mouth is, they go silent. In hindsight… not ideal. Especially in airports. I’ve rebranded to Nuts & Bolts Consulting, Making Systems Behave since 2015. Most of my work comes down to the nuts and bolts— how things actually work, where they break, and how to make systems behave. Less duct tape. Fewer workarounds. Better data. Faster to revenue. Stephanie Watson liked thisStephanie Watson liked thisI did not get stock options. Many years ago my GM asked me to present stock option grants to people who were given them. I was the Chief of Staff, that was my job, no problem. I, however, was not on the list of people to receive options. After everyone had been awarded, I went into his office and said 'I want to ask why I didn't receive stock options, I will just do it once and then I'll drop it.' He thought I had received stock options via my promotion, despite the fact that was not in line with corporate policy. I left not to long after that. I still consider him a friend, but his lack of knowledge cost me about 25K. He felt so bad, but he couldn't do anything about it. I was a top performer, I produced results, and I was still left behind.

I received this email after introducing myself to a new leader in our company with a joke. I had a piece of swag from his former company and sent him a video of my terrier giving it a good shake and said 'Consider this your welcome to our company'. He was known for a GREAT sense of humor, but when he responded, my heart dropped. Everyone told me he was kidding, but I was terrified. I was worried I had made a bad impression on someone important. I wrote an apology, with my heart in my stomach. He wrote back "Just kidding", and now it is a funny story, but in reality, it was a mean joke. Jokes that are designed to confuse or put someone on the spot aren't nice. Making people uncomfortable for your entertainment is not kind. It is essentially gaslighting for entertainment. It has been 20 years since that joke and I wouldn't change my attempt to make connection with someone new, but I'd hope this time, he would make a different choice. If the times haven't changed, they should.

Stephanie Watson liked thisStephanie Watson liked this"We will revise your salary at the end of the year". It was March. I was finally promoted to the job I was hired for. I was told, however, that my salary wouldn't be adjusted until the end of the year. I felt that was quite unfair, but everyone agreed, that is how the company worked. At this point I was making $45K a year, managing a team of 6 responsible for $30M in revenue. It was the year 2000. The road to manager took so long because of our crazy CEO (this is universally acknowledged in the industry). I had to meet his son, jump through various hoops and despite being very successful as an IC ($10M in revenue just for me), and my promotion was outside of the Q1 bonus widow by 12 days, so I wasn't eligible. I had joined tech to earn money and pay off my student loans and buy a house. I couldn't do it on my non-profit salary, and now somehow I was working more, not having nearly as much fun and making the same. 😵 I contacted our sales exec with my concerns and she said 'I'm sorry Jerri, those are the rules'. The next day she called me. Her words "I am so sorry Jerri, I had no idea how much you were making. Effective immediately, you are receiving a 30% raise and a $12,000 bonus." From that moment forward, I knew my life could change for the better. Say the hard thing, have the hard conversation, and know your value.

I guess you can say it's been a decade of building, evolving, and showing up with Brent Pliskow! Brent has always leaned in. He’s been one of those leaders who not only builds and scales incredible teams, but consistently makes time to share, challenge thinking, and help others grow alongside him. Today, Brent joined 30+ Kustomer TLC members for a fireside on keeping CX human in the age of AI and (no surprise) brought both candor and clarity to the conversation. 💎Brent gems: • “Keeping service human everywhere” isn’t the goal. Customers want less effort, and it’s on us to decide where human judgment matters most. • AI-first doesn’t mean human-free. It means being intentional about where trust, complexity, and relationships require a person. • The hardest part of AI isn’t the tech. It’s helping teams shift their mindset from fear to ownership. What I’ve always appreciated about Brent is his ability to say the quiet part out loud and do it in a way that actually helps leaders move forward. So grateful to still be building this community alongside him after all these years and even more grateful that he continues to show up to lend a hand. Sharing a few moments from over the years and it’s simple proof that the best part of this journey has always been the people. Thanks Brent! 💛

Imagine a world where BILLIONS of CTV spend goes BACK to working media for advertisers and billions of revenue back to media owners. That is exactly what we announced with Disney Advertising. It's called PRISMA DIRECT and Disney is the first of many companies who will join in creating a more efficient supply chain for CTV spend through automated direct IO.
