Dan Teran shared thisEpic. We were lucky to write our first angel check at Gutter Capital to Ryan Denehy almost a decade ago and even luckier to call him an LP and Elbow Grease Mentor. "Unrelenting execution" is a core Gutter value, and few founders embody it more than Denehy. Half the battle is showing up, the other half is staying in the fight. Onwards ⚔️Dan Teran shared thisWild journey over the past couple years! Industries can change faster than companies. Incredibly proud of our team for re-inventing the company and category yet again, and for the support of our investors, customers and partners for backing a massive swing several years ago. Here's the story:

Dan Teran shared thisDan Teran shared thisAs AI models continue to improve, technology will continue to play a larger role in the homebuying process. Our view at TurboHome is that as the process gets more efficient, homebuyers should directly benefit in terms of lower fees and better access to information. Our new buyer app allows homebuyers to take direct action on home search, tours, market research, and offers. This frees up real estate agents on our platform to focus on what they do best: offer strategy and negotiation. Despite charging consumers lower fees, we haven't churned a single real estate agent since launching in late '24. Thanks to the New York Post and Ariel Zilber for going deep and chatting with real homebuyers. Link in comments.

Dan Teran reposted thisDan Teran reposted thisWe've got a couple of exciting updates to share at RetailPath! First, RetailPath Cash Application is officially out of beta. When we first built RetailPath, our goal was simple: recover revenue that retail brands had already earned. As we grew, we noticed that every deduction we recovered created another accounting task. Someone still had to reconcile the payment, code the deduction, recognize the recovery, and post everything correctly to the general ledger. For some brands, that's hundreds of additional journal entries every month. So we built RetailPath Cash Application. Instead of asking finance teams to piece together retailer payments across portals, spreadsheets, and ERPs, RetailPath Cash Application does the work for them. Every retailer payment, deduction, promotional accrual, and recovery is categorized and prepared for the general ledger automatically. Leaving teams with one job: review and approve. Second, this launch marks a bigger shift for RetailPath. We're no longer just building deduction recovery software. We're building the AI platform that manages the entire retail revenue lifecycle from retailer orders to applied cash. If you're a retail brand looking to automate deductions or simplify accounts receivable, feel free to send me a DM. Would love to show you what we've been building!

Dan Teran shared thisthere is something special happening on Canal Street ✨Dan Teran shared thisMagic Moments at Faraday Faraday shares an office space with 12 other Gutter Capital funded companies, so we often get magic moments of collaboration. Like this week when Ryan Greenberg walked the Recharged team through the team's custom AI harness setup. Twenty minutes later they were sketching how to adapt it for their own stack. Sharing an office means sharing meals, ideas, and growth. It's why Faraday calls Chinatown home.

Dan Teran shared thisit's time to RebuildDan Teran shared thisOne common thread in all of the great people who have joined Rebuild over the last two years: they were not only looking to solve meaningful problems, but they had an unmatched desire to win. Wide scope, room to grow their impact and their careers, and a team that actually cherished building together. I meet hundreds of people a year, but the career conversations I had with Jack Walters, Grace Durcan and Jack L. — I remember exactly where I was (or which phone booth) when we had them. Lightning strike moments for a recruiter, and incredible to see these leaders take the reins and lay the foundation for where Rebuild is today. Up and down this team, you'll see high caliber individuals committed to the mission of developing technology for restoration. All of these roles work closely with the founders, Alex Toporek and John Reim. At Gutter Capital, Dan and James talk a lot about drive, integrity, and judgment in founder assessments. Alex and John exhibit these traits in spades, along with seemingly bottomless endurance. We have exciting news about fundraising we will announce officially later this summer 👀 , but in advance, we're actively hiring across the roles below, and fast. The time is now. Dan Teran shared thishuge! my brother bought his house in Palo Alto with TurboHome and it was a 10/10 experience 💯 🏠 🚀Dan Teran shared thisExisting real estate apps like Zillow are great for searching for homes, but homebuyers can't actually take action because their business model involves selling leads to agents. We built TurboHome so that we control the entire transaction which allows us to redesign the experience from first principles with the homebuyer at the center. Today we're rolling out our new buyer app which gives our customers direct access to world class AI tools with their expert real estate in the loop for the entire journey all while getting $30K cash back on average. A few things you can do with 1 click: Run a valuation Schedule tours Query live MLS data for insights Draft offers Chat with your agent Available on web, mobile, and iMessage at http:// app.turbohome.com

Dan Teran reposted thisDan Teran reposted this5 things you must love as a builder. 1. gotta love constructive feedback AND love when your deep convictions are doubted (you must obsess over criticism for what isn't working, but be wary of cynicism - and learn to gain confidence from doubt) 2. love vigorously debating with your team (means you’re navigating new territory effectively rather than aimlessly; debate and differing viewpoints expose the surface area of possibility for the best decision. keep the team engaged when disagreeing and fight apathy ruthlessly) 3. love merchandising (employees, investors, customers, press - you're always selling or sharing the narrative of what you're building and why - especially with customers and when hiring/retaining a team. its the most important thing yet they don’t teach it in business school) 4. love building a team and culture as much as product (the potential of a team compounds with commitment and alignment. build a culture that gets stronger from volatility. thoughtfully construct your team. the REAL competitive advantage is a great team sticking together long enough to figure it out) 5. love time with customers/users (best products don’t come from passion for a solution, they come from empathy for those suffering a problem. you need to love being shoulder to shoulder, identifying the pain, testing solutions)

Dan Teran liked thisDan Teran liked thisExcited to be at the California Resource Recovery Association (CRRA) conference this week, surrounded by people doing the practical, collaborative work of building a more circular economy. A few highlights already: ➕Partnerships are key to make diversion real, from mattress recovery and repair clinics to community education and contamination-reduction efforts. ➕We need more community Resource recovery parks that create better options for self-haulers, bulky items, construction materials, and reuse. ➕A reminder that progress depends on pairing better infrastructure and policy with clear, human-centered education. The keynote’s message especially resonated: this work isn’t only about minimizing harm, it’s about maximizing our positive impact and building systems that work better for people and the planet. Thanks for inspo Anne Therese Gennari Feeling energized by the conversations, the creativity, and the drive to keep asking: what else is possible with WATS?

Dan Teran liked thisDan Teran liked thisMonograph — the company my co-founders and I built serving #Architects and #Engineers — was acquired by Total Synergy. My time as CEO came to an end back in March, and now I'm watching this moment from the outside. Seven years in, here's what I actually want to say: ❤️ Thank You so much!! To Alex Dixon, and Moe Amaya, my co-founders who built this with me from a whiteboard in our small SOMA office in San Francisco, a problem we lived as a working architect — thank you for launching me into the world of startups and venture capital. To every Monographer who joined, put their trust in me, and made the company sharper than I could've built alone. To the leadership, the engineers, product managers, designers, sales, customer success, and operations teams who showed up everyday and did great work — Thank you! There are some incredible people who have been with me for many years and I'll always be forever grateful. Special shout out to Evan Loh, Fallon Roche, Ailyn Mendoza, Pete Indelicato, Jared Laser, Chris Morgan, Kelsea McCauley, Jacob Borrett, and Sam Reiner ❤️ I miss you and hope to give each of you a big hug!! It was an honor to have led, and a privilege to work together! It was the best part of the job. Watching what you built with that trust is the best part of leaving it. 🚀 100+ Monographers Strong That's years of compounding, the right product for the right market, built by people who care about architecture and the firms that practice it. The Team, The Team, The Team To the thousands of firms, and the tens of thousands of people inside them, who ran their business on what we built over these seven years, thank you for the trust, the feedback, the patience, and the belief that a small software company could understand your work better than others. To the investors who sat on our board, Satya Patel at Homebrew, Nina Achadjian at Index Ventures, and TJ Nahigian at Base10 Partners thank you for your partnership. To our investors more broadly — thank you for backing me and a category before it had a name, and for believing an architect could build enterprise software. None of this happened because of one person. It happened because a team decided the mission was worth their time and energy. That mission is bigger than any one chapter of it, including mine. My chapter here is come to an end and a new one is about to start. Grateful doesn't even cover it. But it's the closest word I've got.

That's Jessica Drahem, Director of Performance, Development & Culture at Newk's Eatery, on what two and a half years with Opus Training built for a four-person L&D team running a 96-location, majority-franchised network. They replaced a three-inch paper binder and manual grading with a digital manager-in-training path, then used that same visibility to turn franchisees into real partners in developing their teams. Great piece by Alex Konrad on what this week’s OpenAI and Anthropic healthcare announcements really signal for founders and the ecosystem. Thanks for including my perspective. As I shared with Alex: healthcare has always been a massive opportunity, but what feels different now is ecosystem readiness. Patients and providers are finally prepared to adopt AI in ways that fit real workflows, with serious enterprise partnerships acknowledging that healthcare change doesn’t happen in isolation. These launches feel less like an overnight disruption and more like a formal declaration of intent—raising the bar for startups while underscoring how critical trust, privacy, and deep domain relationships remain. AI will increasingly be a primary interface for analysis and decision-making in health, even if it doesn’t ultimately create a single “master” access point for patients. Two weeks ago on Swimming with Allocators, we sat down with David Clark, CIO at VenCap, to talk about what decades of venture data can teach allocators. One takeaway that stood out: discounts don’t matter as much as people think in venture secondaries. Because venture is such a power-law asset class, outcomes are driven by exposure to a few massive winners. Whether a stake is bought at a small discount, or even a premium, often matters far less than the quality of the underlying company and its upside. Great conversation on venture returns, manager selection, and the nuances of how allocators should think about secondary investments. 👇 Link in the comments.

I’m thrilled to announce defy.vc’s investment in Birches Health as part of their $20M combined Seed and Series A funding round, alongside incredible partners like AlleyCorp, General Catalyst, Will Ventures, and others. As someone deeply passionate about backing companies that tackle important problems for our society, I couldn’t be more excited about what Birches is building—a national virtual clinic dedicated to treating gambling addiction and related behavioral disorders like gaming, sex, porn, and internet addictions. What excites me most is Birches’ innovative health assurance model: proactive, accessible, and affordable care that’s evidence-based and delivered right at home. With the explosion of legal sports betting—think nearly $1.5 billion wagered on this year’s Super Bowl alone—we’re staring down a looming public health emergency. Traditional options like hotlines or generic therapy fall short for this high-acuity issue, but Birches changes that by offering specialized therapy from trained clinicians, multimodal treatment, and peer support, all covered by major insurers like United Healthcare, Cigna, Aetna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. It’s available in all 50 states, breaking down geographical and financial barriers that have left so many without help. The impact is already profound: 96% of patients report an improved quality of life, and 94% give Birches a 5/5 rating. By partnering with state governments, payors, and policymakers, Birches is pushing gambling addiction into the spotlight of behavioral health conversations, where it’s been neglected for too long—often leading to shame, worsened outcomes, and higher suicidality risks. This funding will supercharge their growth: expanding the provider network, boosting clinical excellence, scaling infrastructure, and deepening insurance and state partnerships to meet surging demand. Very excited to partner with Elliott Rapaport and the entire Birches team! See more about our POV in the blog post linked in the comments. #GamblingAddiction #BehavioralHealth #HealthTech #VentureCapital #Innovation
