When the opportunity came along to purchase Sign Gypsies Lake of the Ozarks, I decided to grab it! So what does retirement look like these days? You can find me creating fun celebration messages, working outdoors, building a small business, connecting with our local community, and finding ways to give back. After spending so many years in the corporate world, I’m enjoying this completely different kind of adventure — one that lets me be creative, stay active, meet new people, and hopefully make someone’s day a little more special. Amy Cable shared this✨ A Career Fairytale Comes Full Circle ✨ This coming week is so pivotal to my career journey that it has earned its own storybook ending. ✨Once upon a time✨, I began my career in a bustling village of builders and problem-solvers. Over the next 30 years in the talent acquisition industry, I discovered my passion for connecting people with opportunities where they could truly thrive. That journey eventually led me across a magical bridge into the kingdom of Cisco Systems, where I’ve spent the final 19 years of my career. There, I found not only meaningful work, but an extraordinary community. I had the privilege of leading and mentoring 💫talented teams, partnering with 💡inspiring leaders, and shaping hiring strategies that opened doors, elevated careers, and strengthened organizations. I’m deeply 🙏 grateful for the trust, collaboration, and shared accomplishments along the way. Now, as this chapter comes to a close, I’m excited to begin a new one—RETIRING to enjoy life by a beautiful lake, surrounded by family and friends, and reflecting on a journey I wouldn’t trade for anything. Amy Cable reacted on thisAmy Cable reacted on thisSomeone on my team came to me recently with a problem and asked what I thought they should do. My instinct was to give them the answer. Even after all these years, that instinct is still there. Over time I've learned to stop myself and ask, "What do you think we should do?" It's a small change, but probably one of the most important I've made as a leader. Earlier in my career, I thought being a good leader meant being the person with the answers. Someone came to you with a problem, you helped solve it and everyone moved on. The problem is that if you keep providing the answers, you're not necessarily helping the other person develop the confidence to make the decision themselves. So these days I try to ask more questions before offering my view. What are you seeing? What options have you considered? What would you recommend? I'm certainly not perfect at it. Sometimes it's quicker just to give the answer. But I've learned that my job isn't to make every decision. It's to help develop people who are confident making good decisions without me.
