Snapchat+ costs $3.99 per month and gives subscribers access to experimental and pre-release features, along with custom app themes, unique app icons and more. Although the subscription service is showing steady growth, the latest number still only represents a small portion of the app’s 375 million daily active users. The company says it’s looking to rebrand as a fitness company for all, as opposed to being known as an in-home bike company. Immersive View, a feature designed to help you plan ahead and get a deeper understanding of a city before you visit it, is launching in five cities today. Aisha Malik shared thisNetflix and General Motors have announced that the streaming service will join the automaker’s “Everybody In” campaign that aims to accelerate mass adoption of electric vehicles. As part of the partnership, Netflix will increase the presence of EVs in its TV shows and movies. GM is not paying Netflix for placement of its vehicles in the streaming service’s content. Although GM is a partner on Netflix’s ad-supported tier, the company said that the strategic alliance between the two companies is separate from any advertising deal. Story:

The streaming service's entry into the live audio market had initially seemed like a natural fit for the company as it had been heavily investing in podcasts and audio in recent years. Live audio became increasingly popular amid the pandemic, but as lockdown measures ended and in-person events returned, adoption of audio apps like Clubhouse declined. After a couple of years moving up through the publishing side of the business, I finally started as a full-time Lifestyle Writer with The Telegraph earlier this year. I nearly gave up on my dream of working as a full-time writer at a major publication – journalism is not exactly an easy industry. I told myself I wanted to do it in my 20s, while bopping around and speaking with people for a living is realistic. Here we are at 29, sliding in just in time, mission impossible style (though I realise now that life doesn’t end at 30…) It's been a few short weeks but we’ve already been on a ride. My first commission was a Canadian in London’s dream come true: interviewing expat comedian Katherine Ryan about her favourite Canadian things like hockey, nanaimo bars and, of course, the Trudeau-Perry dynasty. https://lnkd.in/epGR9kHD A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of interviewing another well-known voice in the UK: the fearless Carol Vorderman of Countdown acclaim (like Jeopardy, but for math, if you're unfamiliar). We were meant to talk fashion, it ended in politics and my most well-read story to date. TechCrunch’s small team continues to punch above its weight, shaping the conversation around Silicon Valley's startups. It's great to end my time there on a high note at Disrupt, where we hosted leaders from OpenAI, Mercor, ElevenLabs, Cluely, and so many other influential startups onstage. This year I was lucky enough to chat onstage with some fascinating founders at the center of the AI startup world, including Mercor CEO Brendan Foody, ElevenLabs CEO Mati Staniszewski, Hugging Face CSO Thomas Wolf, and Cluely CEO Roy Lee. Collectively, I think these four founders (two of which are just 22-years-old) paint a fascinating picture of the AI industry headed into 2026. We covered some of the new ways AI labs collect data, the commoditization of AI audio models, the limitations of LLMs for science, and how startups can stand out in the AI age. It's been an amazing run, and I loved getting the chance to work with Matthew Panzarino and Megan Rose Dickey again – the ex-TC vibes are extremely strong and putting together a number of folks who used to work there together is clearly an accelerant, can recommend. Also want to thank Marcel Santilli and Daniel Lopes for giving me the chance to work and build with them so early in GrowthX's skyrocketing trajectory. This co-founding powerhouse team made me feel like an incredibly valued contributor, and also demonstrated both passion and empathy above and beyond any founders I've worked with before. Everyone at GrowthX is a super strong, smart and highly adaptable contributor, and I particularly enjoyed being able to work with Carrie Chowske, Ehtisham Hussain and Andi Bailey closely. Kirkland Gee was a tireless partner on the engineering side, and Mara Leighton and Jakub Rudnik helped round out the Director dream team. I'll be sharing more about my next move on Tuesday, when I'll be jumping right into it with both feet! Experts have thrown around plenty of adjectives to describe the circular financing among AI titans, where a bunch of heavyweights share compute resources and capital. Critics argue this can artificially inflate valuations. But on Wednesday, Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell, took it up a notch and compared the transactions to... incest. "Certain investors have been worried about high equity valuations, U.S. liquidity constraints, red flags in the US regional banking sector, and incestuous behaviour among mega-cap US tech stocks around AI," he said.

Should the government use AI to deliver benefits such as SSI/SSDI, SNAP, WIC, TAFDC, EAFDC, Section 8, and fuel assistance? My first inclination is “hell no.” But like most things about AI, it’s more nuanced than that. These agencies are often run by cruel, nasty bureaucrats who do not care about the humans they are there to help. There are significant regulations, but on the ground, they are ignored. Employees yell, threaten, and provide false information en masse. They deny applications two or three times -- Social Security, I’m looking at you -- until almost everyone needs a lawyer. It feels like they want you to die. In reality, they are huge bureaucracies with paper-pushers designed to make things difficult. If you go away, they don’t have to pay. Do we want AI to care, or to pretend to care? Would applicants feel more comfortable with an AI that anthropomorphizes an actually nice person? Or would it be harsher -- applying “rules” with no ability to see nuance, just like a tired human who doesn’t give a f? AI is not ready for this. We aren't at a point where it’s time to hand the reins to AI in human services. To have a Human-in-the-Loop (HITL), there has to be a human there for the right reasons. I have rarely met caseworkers who were there to help; the few who are usually get disgusted and leave. They’re not an “adult in the room,” they’re an “interloper in the room.” Feed AI bad data and it’s just another bot -- another hoop for the low-income to jump through just to survive. But there is potential. AI could be an unbiased assistant to unkind people, showing them application data points they cannot ignore. We are close to AI suggesting the "missing links" in social services—like noticing a community kitchen that serves Mon-Fri leaves people hungry on the weekends. I want to use common sense and hard evidence to meet clients’ needs. AI will likely require a Universal Basic Income (UBI) anyway. The UK system gives you money to budget directly and puts housing in your hands, but still require onerous applications and denials. UBI might put unpleasant people out of work, but give millions a route out of poverty. It could also make direct-service nonprofits more visible and better funded. Unfortunately, there’s currently a chasm between what they want to achieve and their understanding of real needs. Yes, but no. AI has a future in improving bureaucracy. But it is not now.
