Is #AI the elephant in the room?
With panelists Anup Sharma, Arpana Kumar Ahuja, Tehseen Zaidi, Nikhil Dey, Rafi Q Khan at #e4m30under30 we pointed:-
· AI is accelerating information flow, but accountability for truth, tone and trust still sits with humans, not machines. Add to this, the zero-click era where perception is shaped by summaries, not sources. If communicators don’t influence the synopsis, they lose the narrative.
· The #future of communications belongs to teams that combine AI fluency with human judgement, not those choosing one over the other. Treating PR as content creation is outdated. Context, interpretation and judgement are now the real value drivers. Interpreting #data and signals is the strategic edge.
· In an AI-mediated world, trust isn’t communicated, it’s engineered. #Reputation is no longer managed only during a crisis. It’s continuously shaped by algorithms & signals, often before a human intervenes. Speed without discernment is dangerous. AI can scale messages instantly but it can also scale mistakes.
What’s worrisome, very few organizations are asking the harder question:
What happens when AI becomes the trigger, not the solution of the next crisis?
In an always-on, hyper-connected world, reputation no longer erodes slowly.
It fractures at machine speed. And, we have to manage it at record speed.
A model hallucination.
An automated response misfiring.
A data interpretation taken out of context.
Data is already changing how communications are managed, especially in crises. From predictive analytics to scenario-building, it’s shaping how organisations prepare, respond, and recover.
In the AI era, that means:
· Anticipating reputational threats before they surface
· Running simulations, not just crisis playbooks
· Aligning leadership, legal, tech, and communications before the moment hits
· Designing trust, accountability, and governance into AI systems from day one
Because the next crisis won’t announce itself politely.
It will emerge from data, algorithms, and perception, simultaneously.
AI is changing how trust is built and tested, in real-time.
In this AI world, reputation protection will not be reactive.
It will be:
· Designed into systems, not patched after incidents
· Governed across data, tech, legal, and communications
· Tested through AI-driven simulations before a crisis hits
And the organizations that will lead tomorrow are the ones brave enough to pre-empt, prepare and be prompt to:
· Predict reputational risk before it trends
· Stress-test scenarios in real time
· Align leadership responses with data, not instinct
The real question is whether leaders are willing to treat #trust, #governance, and #crisisreadiness as first-order AI decisions, and not afterthoughts.
Thank you exchange4media and Parul Batra for raising a very pertinent topic and for inviting me.
