Introducing our 2026 Distinguished Engineering Alumni/Alumnae! Mark Donahue (BSCNE '94) is executive vice president of Mortenson and a member of the board of directors for the American Clean Power Association (ACP). Donahue has spent his entire career at Mortenson, starting as an estimator and rising to his current role of executive vice president. Over the last 30+ years, Donahue has seen the company hire a lot of engineers, including a fair number Purdue graduates. He’s noticed that they “lead differently” — in a good way. “It makes me super proud to be a Purdue alumnus,” he said. The capabilities of our craft never cease to amaze… Projects like the Athletics ballpark demand precision, coordination and trust across every team. The work is complex, fast-moving and requires people who take pride in every detail. I love this picture showing how the work of every individual matters. Many thanks to the over 500 men and women making this happen!

  • Happy MLB Opening Day! On the Las Vegas Strip, we’re busy building what’s next with the Athletics. Our Mortenson/McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. team, is well underway helping to build one of the most ambitious sports venues in MLB history. Earlier this month the final building foundations were poured, bringing the project one step closer to completion. This project is more than a ballpark. It’s a convergence of design innovation and construction precision that creates the setting for communities to gather and where memories will be made for generations. We’re on schedule for Opening Day 2028 and can’t wait to deliver this state-of-the-art-facility for the fans in Nevada.

Work sabbaticals are a rare benefit that can seem like a fantasy. Not at Mortenson. In fact, qualifying team members can be step away for up to 8 weeks after every 5 years of employment.   Instead of the pressure of planning a worldwide trip, Project Manager Bhawesh Thapa chose to step away from all the stress and explore the vast beauty of the United States. Starting in Puerto Rico with his girlfriend, his sabbatical couldn’t have had a more magical beginning. They decompressed by wandering the timeless streets of Old San Juan and explored the entire island, including the lush canopy of El Yunque rainforest, the shores of Rincón, and the quiet island of Culebra. He then reconnected with the serenity of home in the Pacific Northwest – hiking through the Cascades, reading books, reconnecting with old hobbies and wandering the trails around Mt. Rainier. Next were trips to Boston and San Deigo to spend quality time with old friends. Finally, he wrapped up his time away with an unforgettable trip to Alaska with his girlfriend – seeing orcas in the wild on a wildlife cruise, exploring the Matanuska Glacier, soaring over the massive Denali range in a bush plane and ending their journey with time in Fairbanks. Along with plenty of adventure, Bhawesh’s sabbatical also opened the door for personal growth and rediscovering the simple joys he hadn’t had time for in years – allowing him to return to work recharged and grounded with a fresh perspective of who he is as a person. What will you discover on your sabbatical? Check out our open roles and find out » https://bit.ly/3Vx8iky
