One of the largest dam removal projects in the United States is earning national recognition. ENR has named the Klamath River Renewal Project a Project of the Year finalist and a Best Project in the Water/Environment category. Under a progressive design-build approach, our team dismantled four hydroelectric dams across 40 miles of difficult terrain. This work reopened more than 400 miles of river, restoring critical access for salmon and improving river health across California and Oregon. For decades, the dams slowed water flow, trapping sediment and raising river temperatures. These conditions made it difficult for fish populations to thrive. This milestone marks an important step forward for large-scale environmental restoration in North America. Thank you to our project team, client, Tribal leadership across the Klamath Basin and the many partners who helped make this achievement possible.
A new hub for AI infrastructure is taking shape in Shackelford County, Texas. As we reflect on International Data Center Day, projects like the Frontier campus highlight the scale and complexity behind today’s digital infrastructure. Spanning 1,200 acres, the campus will include 10 data centers totaling more than 3.7 million square feet and 1.4 GW of capacity. Designed with efficiency in mind, the campus will use a closed-loop chiller system that requires minimal water for cooling, helping conserve billions of gallons annually. In partnership with our client Vantage Data Centers, Kiewit is overseeing engineering, procurement and construction.

5,895 meters above sea level. One unforgettable achievement. Recently, one of our employees and his wife traveled to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro alongside a group of fellow hikers, reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters, or 19,341 feet. We’re proud of our employees and all they accomplish, both on and off the job. And we’re glad to see our people enjoying their time off, making memories like this.
Progress is taking shape across North America. And it’s happening fast. In our March newsletter, we’re highlighting the work moving communities forward, from LNG infrastructure and urban transit to complex underground construction and the people behind it all. Take a look at what’s happening across Kiewit.
This is the team behind Lake Conestee. The project marked the first dam Kiewit designed in-house in the United States. On the day water was released over the new dam, engineers, craft professionals and leaders from across the company stood together as the final operation began. Some had moved on to new assignments, but all were invited back to see the water flow. “The success of Lake Conestee belongs to the people who carried its responsibility. They planned relentlessly and showed what a committed, accountable team can accomplish when there’s no margin for error.” – Project Manager Anthony Galantini Eight parts of the business came together to deliver the project one year ahead of schedule and under budget, with zero recordable incidents. Congratulations to everyone who made it happen.
