🚲 Four Fun Facts Featuring Scott Ballinger 🚲: - Scott loves playing padel and plays almost every day. He recently started recording his games and plans to use gesture recognition to automatically clip the most exciting points. - For fun, he rode a tandem bike across Iowa with a kinetic sculpture of Taylor Swift sitting on the back seat. - Scott added automation to every testing process for Elve TWTAs. He is especially proud of his work on data collection, which can be a slow process. With Scott’s work, Elve now collects 10 times more data 10 times faster. - He recently celebrated his three-year anniversary at Elve. At the United Nations last week, Elve founder and CEO Diana Gamzina addressed the critical link between sustainable connectivity and women’s empowerment. Connectivity is not just a convenience, but a necessary democratizing force and an essential human need, profoundly impacting women's role in the global economy. However, expanding current connectivity networks is unsustainable. The high inefficiency (10%-20%) of current electronics means the energy required to connect all would exceed global generation capacity, wasting energy and contributing to environmental heating. Elve is developing a science-driven solution to sustainable connectivity: TWTAs. This technology operates in lossless media (pure vacuum), ensuring the signal is energized during transport in empty space. TWTAs are highly efficient, minimize heat rejection, and do not require exotic materials. For a century, technology behind TWTAs has been the backbone of our invisible infrastructure, powering scientific discoveries, cancer treatment, weather mapping, and more. Expanding connectivity access starts with sustainable technology. In remote and underserved areas, connectivity gaps often exist because traditional infrastructure is too energy and resource intensive to deploy. TWTA technology plays a key role in making mmWave links practical over long distances. TWTAs provide high output power, efficiency, and reliability at mmWave frequencies, unlocking access to sustainable connectivity coverage where fiber and conventional networks are not feasible. Four Fun Facts Featuring Ryan Conroy 🏊♂️ From water to space: Ryan’s journey began poolside as a lifeguard/EMT and swim coach, training athletes who went on to compete at Division I programs. ☕ Built by coal and coffee: His first college job involved shoveling coal and fly ash at a ~2 GW power plant in the Florida summer. This is where he learned how energy is really made and developed an appreciation for over-brewed black coffee. 🚀 A front-row seat to space history: Ryan has witnessed multiple eras of commercial spaceflight firsthand: sitting on the launch console for the Space Shuttle’s STS-114 Return to Flight mission, supporting launch campaigns at Baikonur and at sea with Sea Launch, and later serving as Mission Manager for some of SpaceX ’s first Falcon 9 commercial customers. ❄️ Powered by family and powder: When he’s not working, Ryan is happiest skiing with his kids.
