  • What do you wish you knew about Dallas schools before sending your kids to Dallas schools? That’s what we asked parents across the city for our August issue. The kind of intel in this feature: Private school admissions feel like Squid Game right now. Public school kids aren’t getting enough recess. You have plenty of DISD options beyond magnets. And school auctions are serious business. Consider this your Dallas schools cheat sheet. Also not to be missed: Brandon Aubrey’s love story, plus the place where you can score bespoke hummus. Some projects remind you just how much great digital experiences start with great editorial ideas. Our July feature, The 25 Most Influential Dallas Recording Artists of the Last 25 Years, was driven by an incredible vision from Mike Marshall Mike conceived the project, assembled and coordinated the panel of judges, interviewed artists, shot and edited the video, and even created custom artwork specifically for the digital experience. It was an ambitious editorial undertaking from start to finish. On the product side, our job was to build a digital experience worthy of that work, something that felt immersive, encouraged exploration, and showcased the storytelling instead of getting in its way. But also stayed true to the print design vision. Really proud of what everyone accomplished, and especially grateful to Mike for dreaming up a project that pushed us to build something special. • Does Dallas have culture? That's what our editors wondered after seeing a comment under a Reddit thread on r/geography which posited that Dallas is one of the world’s largest cities without “culture, identity, or authentic flair.” They wound up talking about the Reddit thread for so long that they decided it would be irresponsible not to address the matter in the magazine, but agreed that they didn’t want to defend Dallas, because Dallas (and North Texas) doesn’t need defending from internet commenters. Instead, they invited some interesting Dallasites to help present a small, authentic picture of the city. Part of that picture is, of course, the music scene in Dallas, which we examine and celebrate with our list of the 25 most influential Dallas recording artists of the last 25 years. Keep flipping through the July issue to learn how four restaurants’ chef-owners use their shelves full of cookbooks for inspiration, just like home cooks. Get your copy of the July issue now, and just remember: we're not being defensive. We're just being better than Houston.

  • On Thursday, June 4, more than 300 members of Dallas’ design community gathered at Il Granito to celebrate the release of D Home’s 2026 Summer Issue. Designers, tastemakers, industry partners, and D Home staff came together for an evening of connection and celebration while enjoying curated bites, cocktails, and an energetic atmosphere. Guests had the opportunity to explore the newest issue and capture memories throughout the evening with the Motus Lux Photo Booth, which added an interactive touch to the festivities. The event highlighted the talent and collaboration that continue to shape North Texas’ thriving design community.
