Funny thing happened today - I saw one of my works in someone else's gallery. It was one that used to be here, but, as people who know me know, I often take pictures down and repost them later - so this was just something that has been floating around out there for a while. Some of my old friends here might remember it - a painting I did three or more decades ago, depicting two women in bikinis and wearing diving gear, engaged in an underwater tussle. Hot stuff!
Anyway, long story short, I asked what what the deal was, and the guy immediately apologised, and volunteered to delete the picture. He also said how much he liked it. I immediately recognised this fellow as a good egg who had not meant to commit any wrongdoing. It was just something that he found, and that he wanted to share. So I just want to thank him, and all the other people on here who are good eggs. 99% of comments and engagements on this site are super-civilized, and, as an old-timer, that warms the heart
Howdy, all y'all bubbas and bubbettes.
I'll make this brief, as much as possible for an old windbag.
I'm leaving DeviantArt.
Sorta.
I'm not shutting down the account. I'm just not going to post, unless it's a birthday card.
The two months I took off were the best months of the past four years. It felt like I was getting something done. Since then, though, I've lost myself again. I see what the problem is. I'm so bored, listless, uninspired, and often hopeless that I just doomscroll all day.
A waste of time for someone who doesn't have as much time to waste as he did 40 years ago.
I know what I could blame for all this, but that's a copout. I don't come from a family of blamers. I come from a family of fixers. My parents and grandparents fixed a problem as soon as they spotted it, and they believed if they spotted a problem they were responsible to fix it (if they could). By the time everyone else finished casting blame and yelling, one of the four had the problem fixed and was

Remember that mantra from Season 1 (2006) of Heroes? I still do.
Hayden Panettiere, RIP. You will be missed.

(Apologies for the poor quality - image from her early years of acting, c. 2004). And a darn good tribute article here: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2026/aug/17/hayden-panettiere-actor-shows-rewritten-heroes-claire

To all my Usual Suspects:
Taking a much-needed family vacation to my favorite lake in the Northeast. See you in two weeks! And enjoy the quiet on my end. 🤣

Man, it has been a rough summer in terms of losing some heroes of stage and screen for me. Anthony Stewart Head, Sam Neill, and now, with the news today, Glen Hansard. Only 56 years young.
Never heard of him? He's the man who gave us Once (still my all-time favorite Broadway musical) and this Academy Award winning song (here with the original Broadway cast):

I had the honor of meeting him once (😉), in Ireland years ago. And seeing Once in at least four different venues over almost twenty years: on film; on Broadway; in a local theater production in Olney, Maryland, and with him in concert and remastering many of the musical's songs with his The Swell Season partner Marketa Irglova at the Anthem Stage in D.C. The music never grows old. Nor will he.
His songs are imbued with passion, depth, devotion, and yes, something Divine. Few people remember he started off hanging out with the Hare
