The Huns in Disney's "Mulan" (opening Friday) had to enter a strange, foreign territory. The place: New Jersey. The fortress: Eddie Murphy's Bubble Hill.
At midnight last winter, the Huns were attacking a guardian dragon named Mushu in Murphy's basement. Murphy had balked when asked to do his recordings for the voice of Mushu in an actual studio. "We can record it in my basement," he said. And Disney packed up their sketches and headed to the not-so-far east. But at Bubble Hill, Hun hospitality wasn't always the first order. "I'm gonna kick your little Hun-y buns," Murphy ranted into the mike. That was scripted. Then Murphy began to improv. …
