Philippa Jackson reposted thisPhilippa Jackson reposted thisBig news… I’m hiring! 🎉 And not just because I need someone to help keep the HR chaos under control (although… that would be lovely). This role will be reporting directly into me, which I’m genuinely excited about because it’s a chance to bring someone into the team who wants to learn, grow and get stuck into everything HR (and anything else thrown our way). This could be perfect for: ➡️ An HR Coordinator ready to take that next step into an Advisor role ➡️ An HR Advisor wanting broader exposure and more variety ➡️ Someone who enjoys no two days looking the same The role is primarily remote, with site travel as and when needed, so you’ll get the flexibility of home working but still have the opportunity to get out to sites, build relationships with our amazing teams and really understand the business. We work across the UK & ROI, so you’ll get exposure to a real mix of HR experience, employee relations, projects, policy work, engagement, recruitment support, the exciting world of TUPE (it is exciting I promise), and plenty more. Basically, if you’re the kind of person who says “I’ll give it a go” instead of “that’s not my job,” we’ll probably get on very well. What I’m really looking for though is someone who’ll fit the team. Skills can be developed, but I want someone approachable, down to earth, proactive, and with a good sense of humour because HR definitely requires one sometimes (or most of the time). The company is in a really exciting growth phase, so it’s a brilliant time to join and be part of building something. If you’re interested, or know someone who might be, drop me a message or apply here: https://lnkd.in/eXcK6E9J (And yes, you will absolutely hear me say “have you got five minutes?” at least 14 times a day.) Philippa Jackson shared thisWhat a week! Being invited to a garden party Buckingham Palace by The King's Trust this afternoon to celebrate 50 years of the Kings Trust was a joy. Not only getting access to such a historic place but meeting the supporters and sponsors of such a wonderful organisation and representing Watches of Switzerland Group PLC. Philippa Jackson shared thisWhat an evening at The King's Trust Celebrations on Monday evening! Truly inspiring and deeply moving. I was proud to attend alongside colleagues from across Watches of Switzerland Group PLC, including our CEO Brian Duffy and Foundation Trustees Terence Parris and Ruth Benford and our extended Kings Trust family Rachel Friend and Kaja Jarosz together with the incredible Ellie Walmsley. Hearing the powerful stories of young people in my temporary role as red carpet interviewer (!) and as a member of the audience on the night was incredible. As part of our long‑standing partnership with The King’s Trust, Watches of Switzerland sponsored the Young Change Maker Award again this year presented by Fearne Cotton. Huge congratulations to the fabulous Shauna Tiffany, a worthy winner of the award. Having had the privilege of hosting a panel with Shauna earlier this year, I already knew how powerful her story was - but seeing her recognised on this stage next to King Charles was incredibly moving. She is a remarkable example of what’s possible when talent is met with belief and support. Evenings like this reinforce why supporting people, potential and opportunity matters so much. Singing the national anthem to the King gave me an unexcepted emotional reaction - I had tears rolling down my face as I belted out 'happy and glorious'! Just magic.

Philippa Jackson shared thisCheck out WandrLust for real time human connection. It was wonderful to surprise our best friend Nic Scarce last week.Philippa Jackson shared thisI was reminded of my 'Why' for WandrLust last Saturday....in the most beautiful way. Let me tell you a quick story before you watch the video... I live in Australia now, but I spent the first 27 years of my life in the UK. I have many wonderful friends there but four friendships in particular helped shape the person I became. Those friendships weren’t built online. They were built through years of being present. Playing outside as kids. Figuring out life together as teenagers. Travelling, arguing, laughing and growing up side by side as adults. Last weekend one of those friends came to visit me in Australia. Charlotte has done this a few times so nothing suspicious (although looking back she was acting a little strange). On the first day of her trip, she took me out for lunch at the Haven Restaurant in Burleigh. As we were sitting there I heard a very familiar laugh behind me but it definitely didn’t belong in Australia. When I turned around, my other three closest friends in the world were standing there. They had flown halfway around the world to surprise me for my birthday. So special. They had been planning this trip for two and a half years. That kind of effort isn’t something people do casually. It happens when bonds have been built over decades of real, shared moments. This week reminded me why we’re building WandrLust. Because presence matters. The strongest connections in life are built when people are actually there with each other. Technology shouldn’t replace those moments. It should help guide us back to them. (As you can see from the video… I genuinely had no idea.) Charlotte Holt Philippa Jackson Adele Cutler 🫶 Mondrian Gold Coast

Philippa Jackson liked thisPhilippa Jackson liked thisAfter almost 36 years at Rover Group / Land Rover / JLR, I have decided to retire. I'm leaving a bit earlier than I originally planned (I wanted to go before I turned 60 anyway), but it felt like the right time for me to move on. I handed my beloved Defender in last Thursday, and my laptop, phone and ID cards on Friday. I'm keeping one car (an Evoque) on our retiree scheme. I've had a wonderful career with several changes of ownership and punctuated with some very tough times that impacted the industry as a whole, and JLR in particular. We got through them all luckily. I've been involved in some fantastic projects, and for the last 15 years or so have been privileged to work as a Product Manager at a global level (Range Rover Evoque) and latterly within the UK National Sales Company (Jaguar Saloons and Sports cars, and most recently Discovery and Defender). I've been so lucky to work with so many excellent colleagues, many of whom I count as great friends. No firm plans for what is next. I think a short pause is top of the list

Philippa Jackson liked thisThis moment earlier this month has had me thinking about allyship and bystander behaviour. He had absolutely nothing to gain by stepping in, but he noticed, trusted what he saw and chose not to walk past. Sometimes allyship really is that simple: when it would be easier to keep walking, you choose to show up. We can wrap it in labels, or we can just call it humanity: looking out for one another when it matters 🤎

It has been an incredible chapter of my career, filled with experiences, opportunities and, most importantly, some truly exceptional people. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented individuals in the industry and travelling to some amazing places along the way — from Geneva to America, Italy and many more. I leave with a very heavy heart, but also with an immense sense of pride in what we have built together at Bluewater. A huge thank you to the incredible team who have been such a significant part of that journey. I know I’m leaving Bluewater in the hands of an unstoppable team, and I have every confidence that they will continue to take the business from strength to strength. I also want to give a special thank you to our wonderful clients. So many of you have become much more than clients — you’ve become part of the Bluewater family. Your trust, loyalty and support have played a huge part in helping us build one of the largest and most successful businesses within the Group, and I will always be incredibly proud of that achievement. Why I don’t believe HR should chair internal disciplinary hearings. This may not be popular, but I stand by it. HR’s role is to guide process, ensure procedural and substantive fairness, advise on risk, protect the organisation and protect employee rights. But chairing the hearing? That’s different when HR acts as Investigator, Advisor, Witness and Chairperson We blur independence. A disciplinary hearing requires a neutral, unbiased decision-maker who was not directly involved in the matter. That separation protects the integrity of the process, the credibility of the outcome, the defensibility at CCMA or Labour Court HR should not be judge and jury. If the outcome is challenged, the first question often becomes, “Was the chairperson independent?” In my view, HR’s strength lies in safeguarding fairness and not presiding over it. Curious to hear other perspectives!!

MPs have voted through key amendments to the Employment Rights Bill that will significantly reshape dismissal protections: ✅ Qualifying period reduced - From two years to six months, with a retrospective start date of 1 January 2027. ✅ Commencement approach - Employees with six months’ service by 1 January 2027 will gain protection immediately. Meaning new hires from July 2026 will qualify after six months. This means: - Someone hired today will be protected from 1 January 2027. - Someone starting on 1 November 2026 would qualify by 1 May 2027. Why does this matter? Employers need to prepare for a major shift in risk and cost exposure. Contract terms, dismissal processes, and HR policies will need reviewing as will training for any managers who have responsibility for managing people. An outstanding issue is the Compensation cap review - Awards for unfair dismissal could become unlimited. If the Bill passes the Lords this week, it could receive Royal Assent before Christmas. If you need help navigating these changes, we support SMEs across South Manchester and Cheshire with practical, pragmatic and pro-active HR solutions. If you'd like to book in a chat about your 2026 HR requirements, get in touch on wilmslow@hrdept.co.uk or 01625 460 694. #EmploymentLaw #HR #UnfairDismissal #SMEs #HRSupport #PeopleManagement

❗ DISCLAIMER: As we always say at Robinson Ralph, you can't spell HERO without HR! 💡 Claims this week from a right-leaning think tank that UK organisations’ focus on EDI has led to ‘bloating non-jobs in HR’ oversimplifies both what the profession does and why it has grown, according to the head of CIPD, Personnel Today reports. It continues: A report published by Policy Exchange yesterday titled “‘Putting Business Back in the Driving Seat: Countering the rise of EDI in the Workplace” reignited a familiar dispute about the size, scope and purpose of HR in the UK. The authors argued that employers have been pushed by campaigners, regulators and courts into adopting “radical EDI policies”, leading to what it describes as a misallocation of labour. The think tank said the UK employs almost twice as many HR professionals as the EU and far more than the US, at an estimated economic cost of £10bn. It quoted statistics suggesting that between 2011 and 2023, the HR profession in the UK had grown by 83%, while the number of people in employment had grown by only 13.5%. The report highlighted rising compliance costs, lengthy ESG reporting and the proliferation of staff networks, concluding that HR has been distracted from the issues employees value most, such as pay and conditions. Policy Exchange called for wide-ranging reform of the Equality Act, including repealing the Public Sector Equality Duty, and scrapping positive action provisions. In a foreword to the report, shadow business secretary Andrew Griffith said: “EDI has a real and significant cost. It makes businesses more risk-averse, slower, less likely to take a chance on recruiting new staff and focused upon ticking bureaucratic boxes rather than delivering for their customers. “The primary beneficiaries have been bloating non-jobs in HR or corporate responsibility departments and in some places a string of unaccountable staff networks.” Peter Cheese, chief executive of the CIPD, noted that international comparisons on the number of HR practitioners are weak without common standards and definitions. He argued that increased employment regulation, shifting workforce expectations, and rapid changes in how work is organised have all expanded HR’s remit. “Although not the first of recent criticisms of the profession, this report from the Policy Exchange makes some particularly bold assertions,” he said. “Trying to make comparisons with other countries when there is no shared standard is problematic. “Equally, a higher share of people professionals relative to the US is not inefficiency, it’s reflective of different policy landscapes and the priorities and value placed on HR by organisations in the UK." #hr #humanresources #hrdirector #hrmanager https://lnkd.in/eH82hcRp

When Rachel Reeves delivered the Autumn Budget yesterday, my immediate reaction was one of intense focus and operational caution. Whilst it offered stability in core taxes, it delivered a significant increase in operational costs and administrative complexity. Given everything HR and business leaders are already juggling, from the rising cost of goods to the pace of legislative change, we were scrutinising this Budget for genuine support. Instead, it confirmed hard-hitting employment cost increases that demand our immediate attention, making the people landscape even more demanding. The confirmed above-inflation increase to the National Living Wage is a substantial cost-hit for businesses, requiring immediate calculations to manage wage bills, rising Employer NICs, and the inevitable pressures of pay squeezes. The freeze on personal tax thresholds will still push more employees into higher tax bands as wages rise too, which inevitably affects how people feel about their pay. It adds another layer of complexity to the compensation conversations HR teams are managing. And while the pension salary-sacrifice changes won’t fully take effect until 2029, they require long-term planning now, as they quietly reduce benefit value for many - something we’ll all need to communicate carefully when we have more detail. For me, this reinforces what we’re hearing every day across the Empowering People Group: businesses are facing a squeeze on profit margins, and HR teams are now carrying a heavier administrative and strategic responsibility in helping organisations navigate this with empathy and clarity. The upside is that there were no shocks on income tax, NI or corporate tax, and that stability matters. But the real administrative and financial challenge is now ahead of us: execution. Alongside these costs, the Employment Rights Bill will reshape how organisations support and engage their people, and preparation can’t slip down the priority list. This Budget has added to HR’s financial and administrative workload. It underlines one thing very clearly - this is a moment for people-centred leadership, operational diligence, and a real commitment to ensuring our teams are equipped to manage compliance and cost-effective support through change. If you're looking for help navigating the complexity, give me a shout. https://hubs.la/Q03W39BD0
