James Pinchbeck shared thisWhat’s in a name? Quite a lot, when two businesses come together. Having been involved in and advised on a number of mergers and acquisitions, I’ve found that one of the most sensitive questions is often not the valuation, structure or legal documentation. It’s: What are we going to call the business? A name can represent decades of history, reputation, relationships and, for founders and owners, a very personal legacy. But there is also a danger that those closest to a business attach greater importance to the existing name than its customers actually do. So the question shouldn’t simply be: “Which name do we keep?” It should be: “What brand and identity best support what we are trying to create?” Depending on the circumstances, that might mean adopting the acquiring company’s brand, retaining an established name, creating something completely new, combining identities or using a transitional approach. There isn’t one right answer. What matters is making the decision strategically, early and with a clear understanding of whose perceptions really matter. And, importantly, remembering that branding a merger or acquisition is about much more than changing a name or logo. It is about explaining what is happening, why it is happening and what it means for customers, employees and other stakeholders. I explore this in my latest article: What’s in a Name? Branding a Merged or Acquired Business 👉 https://lnkd.in/eTRWswk6 Have you been through a merger, acquisition or rebrand? How difficult was the naming decision? #MergersAndAcquisitions #BrandStrategy #MarketingStrategy #BusinessStrategy #Branding

As SBC Global Alliance continues to grow, we are looking to establish a relationship with a high-quality independent audit, assurance, tax and business advisory firm in Poland, with a particular interest in Warsaw. Poland is an increasingly important market for our international community. Our member firms around the world have clients doing business, investing and operating in Poland — creating a need for trusted, responsive in-country professional advice. James Pinchbeck shared thisSharing this exciting role with my many connections working on the business enterprise spaceJames Pinchbeck shared thisNew Job Opportunity! The University of Lincoln is seeking an experienced business development professional to build relationships with researchers, uncover promising opportunities and connect them with potential customers, partners and licensees. We are also open to applicants who are earlier in their business development career but can demonstrate strong transferable skills and the potential to grow into the full scope of the role. For the right candidate, we may consider offering the post as a supported development opportunity, with appropriate training, mentoring and a structured development plan. This is not an intellectual property or technology transfer role. We are looking for someone who can understand complex propositions, identify potential markets and start productive conversations with external organisations. You do not need previous experience of working in a university. You may currently work in technology, software, engineering, science, healthcare, professional services, innovation or another knowledge-led sector. You will work with researchers and subject-matter experts to understand what they have developed, the problem it could solve and who might benefit from it. You will then research relevant markets, identify suitable organisations and lead early business development conversations. Our specialist Research Commercialisation team will lead on intellectual property assessment, commercial strategy, licensing and contracting. Your role will be to identify opportunities, develop the market and build the relationships needed to move them forward. James Pinchbeck shared thisWhere is your business watering hole? Most businesses can tell you who their target market is. But can you answer a slightly different question: Where do those people actually gather? Which events do they attend? Which networks or professional groups do they belong to? What do they read or listen to? Who do they trust? And where do they go when they need advice, support or ideas? I think these questions are becoming increasingly important. With so much focus on digital marketing, social media and producing more content, it can be easy to concentrate on the platform rather than the community we are trying to reach. Sometimes the best marketing opportunity isn't another campaign or another channel. It could be finding an existing watering hole and becoming a useful part of that community. Or perhaps even creating your own. A roundtable, breakfast briefing, specialist event, newsletter or community that gives the right people a genuine reason to come together. I've explored the idea in my latest article: Where Is Your Business Watering Hole? 👉 https://lnkd.in/eiNNe7Tm #MarketingStrategy #BusinessDevelopment #B2BMarketing #RelationshipMarketing #BusinessGrowth

James Pinchbeck liked thisJames Pinchbeck liked thisBarefoot or shod? 🐴 One of the most debated questions in modern equestrian management. Over the past decade, barefoot management has moved from a niche approach to a much broader conversation among horse owners, riders and equine professionals. And there are good reasons for the discussion. Barefoot hooves are able to expand and contract naturally during movement, contributing to the hoof's natural shock-absorbing function. The hoof also plays an important role in circulation and interacts dynamically with the ground with every stride. But that doesn't mean shoes are the problem. Shoeing is a management tool, and for many horses it provides valuable protection from excessive wear, mechanical support, or assistance with specific conformational, performance or rehabilitation needs. The reality is that barefoot vs shod isn't as black and white as the debate can sometimes make it seem. There isn't a single approach that is universally best for every horse. Instead, the right decision depends on the individual horse and their circumstances: 🐴 Hoof quality 🌱 Environment and terrain 🏇 Workload and discipline 🦴 Conformation and biomechanics 🥕 Nutrition 🩺 Previous injuries or rehabilitation needs A horse living on varied terrain with strong, healthy hooves may thrive barefoot. Another horse working regularly on hard surfaces, competing at a high level, or requiring additional support may benefit from shoes. Neither approach is inherently right or wrong. Perhaps the more useful question isn't "Should horses be barefoot or shod?" It's: "What does this individual horse need, in this environment?" 📖 We're exploring the science, benefits and considerations behind both approaches in our latest blog. James Pinchbeck liked thisJames Pinchbeck liked thisLast week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Cameron and Digby to The English Distillery for a week of work experience! 👏🥃 During their time with us, they gained hands-on experience across every stage of our business. From learning about the art of distilling and the bottling process of our single malts, to spending time in our warehouses, they experienced first-hand what goes into creating our English whisky. They also spent time with our retail team, helping customers in our shop and packing online orders, giving them a valuable insight into the customer side of the business. In addition to this they also had a brief oversight into the many layers and versions of marketing that are in action to ensure our lovely customers hear from us. We hope their week with us has given them a greater understanding of the whisky, tourist & retail industries, & opened their eyes to the huge variety of careers within it, and helped inspire their future paths. A huge thank you to Cameron and Digby for their enthusiasm, hard work and willingness to get involved. We wish them every success in the future! 👏 #TheEnglishDistillery #WorkExperience #EnglishWhisky #FutureTalent #Learning #BehindTheScenes #WhiskyLife #NextGeneration

Every council’s risk profile is different. CIPFA and Infoshare+'s latest Financial Resilience Index provides a snapshot, but its real value lies in how councils use it alongside local context - including demand trends, reserves strategy and capacity for innovation. Finance leaders can use the index as a starting point to assess exposure, benchmark risk and inform medium-term financial planning during a period of significant reform. 💡12 Days of Impact, Day 4: Building community capacity through the OSEP business support programme💡 In 2025, we took part in OSEP CIC's business support programme offering free, tailored support to develop social enterprises in Oxford City and the South and Vale areas of Oxfordshire. This allowed us to help more organisations build their capacity so they can resist, develop, grow, and thrive. We ran a series of workshops, peer group sessions, and 1:1 support sessions, all aimed to help businesses for social good develop and gain access to space. We understand that accessing space can be a huge barrier for small social businesses and we aim to give people the tools to grow their projects and see them flourish. The programme is still running.
