Brian Byrnes shared thisFor something a bit different this tax year end, I sat down with comedian Sara Pascoe to discuss all things savings, investments and trying to buy a house 🏡 For this Masterclass, I was the one in the hot seat as Sara asked the questions and we delved deep into the mindsets and psychology around money 💷 We also played a highly questionable game to two truths and a lie about which I will not be answering any questions at this time 🤫 All credit to Beth Wood, Annie Ulliana, Alice Duddy, Callum Cliffe, Jake Hudson and our brilliant design team for bringing this to fruition ✨ Link to the full video is in the comments 📺

Brian Byrnes shared thisUp early this Saturday morning to discuss the impact of the Iran War and geopolitical risk on investments, savings and mortgages While what happens in the Middle East is outside of our control, there are proactive steps we can take to be more in control with our finances Shopping around for the best savings rates, getting ahead of remortgaging or buying by speaking to a broker as early as possible and not panicking with our investments because of short term volatility. These things will all help in the long run. 7:10am for anyone who wants a listen 🥱 ☀️ Now off to re-do the garden 🪴 https://lnkd.in/ePZjE-AXTimes Radio Breakfast with Rosie Wright and Calum Macdonald | Times Radio | The Times and the Sunday TimesTimes Radio Breakfast with Rosie Wright and Calum Macdonald | Times Radio | The Times and the Sunday Times

Brian Byrnes shared thisGreat to see this story from Claer Barrett in the Financial Times. We dont need another product, we need small tweaks to the Lifetime ISA to allow it to continue to support first time buyers and people saving for retirement Big numbers lose meaning sometimes but the LISA has already helped 300,000 first time buyers into their homes. 300,000!!! And the first cohorts of the product are only just starting to mature so the rate of house purchases is increasing every year. We look forward to making these points in the forthcoming consultation..... https://lnkd.in/e6Tuged7
-
Brian Byrnes shared thisIts nonsensical to be removing an excellent retirement option from people when we have 15m at least undersaving for retirement The LISA works incredibly well for the self employed, nil rate and basic rate taxpayers i.e. the vast majority of the population. Even for higher rate taxpayers using it for retirement, who represent maybe 2% of LISA savers, there are perfectly valid reasons to prefer to save into a LISA vs a pension. We should be celebrating the fact people are taking proactive and positive steps towards funding their retirement, not taking this option away from them The data does not back up any of the anecdotal criticisms of the LISA, that people find it "confusing" or that higher rate taxpayers are getting a bad outcome. The data shows that savers love the product and its the monthly bonus, another thing that is supposedly going away, instills great saving and investing habits in people for life. We will very much be pushing the Pensions Commission to have a look at this and encourage the Treasury to revisit this decisionUK pensions: lifetime Isa shake-up raises fears for self-employedUK pensions: lifetime Isa shake-up raises fears for self-employed

Brian Byrnes reposted thisBrian Byrnes reposted thisToday we're celebrating ten years of Street Hearts BG! What started as Anthony and I simply wanting to neuter street dogs and prevent suffering somehow turned into something we could never have imagined. Ten years later, we're still here… a little older, a little more tired, but just as determined! It hasn't always been easy. Rescue rarely is. There have been hard days, difficult decisions, changing laws, endless challenges, and moments where things felt almost impossible. However, the feeling of saving a life, watching a dog leave the shelter, and seeing them settled in their furever home makes every challenge worthwhile. This may have started as my idea, but I could never have done any of it without Anthony. He has been 100% behind me from day one, throwing his enthusiasm, energy, and passion into everything we do. He's my biggest supporter, my partner in every sense of the word, and the best husband in the world. Without him by my side, we simply wouldn't have achieved what we have. From just the two of us, we've grown into the most incredible team, with dedicated staff and volunteers in both Bulgaria and the UK all working together to help as many dogs as possible. We've also been lucky to receive guidance and support along the way. Battersea has helped us grow our knowledge through training and grants, alongside support from SPCA International and Marchig Animal Welfare Trust, helping us continue our work and develop the shelter we have today. The impact over these ten years has been astounding, with 5,000+ dogs neutered and 1,500+ dogs rehomed. Our aim remains simple: a Dryanovo free from street dogs and free from suffering. Working in partnership with the municipality, we will keep striving towards that goal for many years to come. Rescue will always bring challenges, but the last decade has taught us that with determination, teamwork, and a stubborn Yorkshire refusal to give up, there's always a way forward! Thank you to everyone who supports our work and opens their homes and hearts to our dogs. Here's to the last ten years, and the many more still to come! Brian Byrnes shared thisBusy week! We started on Monday at MoneyLIVE with Marko Katavic, Tibby Palmer, Greg Zholdak, Danielle D'Lima and Laura Finlay covering the little discussed topic of "Artificial Intelligence" and how it will impact personal finance and financial institutions. On Tuesday we released our report into pension transfer practices alongside AJ Bell, Freetrade, Hargreaves Lansdown, Interactive Investor, J.P. Morgan Personal Investing, Monzo, PensionBee, and Vanguard which was picked up by patrick hosking at the Times. The biggest problem we have in the UK with pensions is engagement, so when someone makes a proactive decision to move their pension, the industry should be obligated to make that process as smooth, safe and quick as possible (Australia get it done in 3 days 👀 ) And it was great to finish the week with Maisie Grice, Martin Kimber and the team at City AM to bring the report to life and what it means for consumers trying to move their pensions, alongside Helen Morrissey. Full video here: https://lnkd.in/eZriM9je All the while the Moneybox team have been helping our customers navigate volatile markets ❤️ When you see the industry coming together to try and improve things for pension customers, investors not panicking when markets are choppy and AI leaders championing safety and trust in product development, it can sometimes feel like we are trending in the right direction 🤞

Brian Byrnes liked thisBrian Byrnes liked thisDear Diary, It's me, Blaze. So, I'm still in UK foster care with Lou and Em of Rebalance Dog Training, which is a bit painful on my lil' heart because it means no one has chosen me yet. It has me questioning, am I still a very good boy? I think so. Anyway. Em (she's so nice) took me on something called a 'holiday' to a place called… Dev-on? Deh-von? Devon. Yes, that's the one! Oh my Dog, it was amazing! I had so many walkies with my dog friends, and the views were stunning. It was like being back in Bulgaria (just a tad colder, mind you). Lots of sniffing was had. 10/10 for sniffs. We also went to a caff-ay? Café! I had water (yum, a classic), but Em drank this weird black stuff called coffee. Why humans drink dirty puddle juice, I do not know. I sat like a very good boy and watched ducks. They float, which I find suspicious. Then, we went on something called a bus. It moved me places without me having to use my legs! Excuse me? Is this legal? I loved it. We went to Tavistock market (lots of new smells) and a pet emporium! Can you believe it? A whole shop for pets? I think I found heaven! A very nice human who lives there (I assume they live there, because why would you ever leave?) gave me treats! I accepted them politely. Em says I inhaled them. I also got to spend time with Em's family. They are VERY good humans. They gave me lots of fusses and love and I soaked it all up like a fluffy sponge. So, yes. Maybe I am still waiting for my furever home, but I had the best adventure and felt very, very loved. Slobbery kisses, Blaze (P.S. If you are looking for the best boy to adopt, it's me! You can do that by visiting the Street Hearts BG web-bite? No, website! That's the one! bit.ly/AdoptMeBlaze!) (P.P.S. Why are you reading my diary?! So nosy!) #adoptdontshop #rescuedog #dogrescue #cheshire

Brian Byrnes liked thisBrian Byrnes liked thisAs UK Defined Benefit schemes mature, the conversation is moving from recovery to resilience. Cashflow matching is increasingly part of that discussion, sitting alongside traditional LDI as a complementary approach rather than a replacement. In our latest Views from the LDI Desk, we look at why cashflow matching is gaining relevance, how it can work within existing LDI frameworks, and what trustees may want to consider as funding positions strengthen and endgame options widen. 👇 Read the full paper to learn more. Brian Byrnes liked thisBrian Byrnes liked thisAbout half of UK retail investors still don’t understand what an ETF is — and among advised investors, around half don’t appear to have ever been recommended one. Last week, I had the pleasure of joining a panel at Euroclear FundsCo in London, focused on active strategies and the continued retailisation of ETFs. It was a great discussion on how the ETF industry is evolving as retail investors become more engaged, better informed, and increasingly central to long‑term capital markets growth — particularly across the UK and Europe. A few themes really stood out for me: ➡️ Investor needs must come first. ETFs are a powerful solution when designed and used to meet those needs. ➡️ ETFs are increasingly becoming long‑term building blocks for everyday investors across the UK and Europe. ➡️ Market structure, innovation and education matter more than ever as participation broadens. A big thank you to Euroclear for convening such a thoughtful group of panellists — Tom Stephens, Jim Goldie & Yorick Naeff — and to Deborah Fuhr, CFA fellow for expert moderation. Always energising to exchange perspectives with peers from across the ecosystem. Vanguard | UK & Europe

Brian Byrnes liked thisBrian Byrnes liked this“A few weeks ago, my tiny two-year-old daughter broke her leg. An innocuous trip from a couple of steps up resulted in a “toddler fracture” – a hairline fracture in her tibia caused by falling awkwardly – a plaster cast, and a couple of weeks of her surgically attached to me while she healed. I hadn’t cared for her so intensely since she was a baby and as I carried her from room to room, I found myself thinking about her life and her future. If I couldn’t protect her from a broken leg now, how was I going to protect her from the big, bad world at 18, 21 or 35? At least part of the answer, in my opinion, is teaching her about money. As a financial coach and author, I want her to learn from my mistakes and make smaller, less catastrophic ones of her own.” Always a pleasure to write for The i Paper about how money collides with real life, and this article is one of my favourites that I’ve written for them. I’m so interested in inherited attitudes towards money, and how we can cycle-break in situations where financial trauma has been passed down and perpetuated. I am so, so determined that my daughter will know all of the things I didn’t, so that she stands a chance at using money as a tool to build a good life for herself. Brian Byrnes liked thisBrian Byrnes liked thisWhile I’ve been head down in fundraising and investor meetings, the Mia Wealth team has been quietly doing something far more impressive. Growing our user base. Building out our gifting feature. Sprinting. Iterating. Not waiting. Then I took a moment to check our Trustpilot reviews this evening - almost at 5 stars ⭐ in beta - and one review stopped me in my tracks… A customer had specifically called out Sajni Odedra (our amazing customer support lead) by name for her incredible experience 👏🏼 That’s the thing about building a company. You can have the best product vision in the world, but it’s the people who show up every single day - for the customers, for the mission - who actually make it real. Proud doesn’t even cover it. Thank you Sajni and thank you to my incredible team. This one’s yours. 🙌

That money will help unlock significant additional lending from their bank funding lines, so it’s a meaningful step up in what the business can deliver over the next 12–18 months. In a market where traditional lending is still cautious and slow, specialist bridging is stepping in to keep deals moving. More capital means faster decisions and more projects getting over the line for brokers and borrowers. RedKite has quietly been getting on with it. The business has more than tripled in size over the last two years across revenue, loan book and team. I think that tells you everything you need to know about the demand in the market for the right kind of bridging product, delivered properly by Jake Francis and the hard-working team running things day to day. The result is a simple, steady growth story. This latest round of funding is about building on that through a stronger balance sheet, more lending capacity and big plans to expand the team through 2026 to support origination and execution. Bridging is a market where speed and reliability really matter and RedKite is building a solid reputation for both. That’s why I’m happy to support their next phase of growth. Well done team. 2026 is off to a strong start — on to the next! 👏
