Ali Parr posted thisOne of the great joys that comes with leading an engineering organisation at Unity has been getting to bring some truly world-class talent aboard and watch people flourish and grow. Central to those efforts has been my close collaboration with recruiter extraordinaire Jack Reid. Working with such a competent recruitment partner makes *everything* better. Jack's blend of professionalism, diligence, work-ethic, and his genuinely great nature have not only made my job easier but have significantly propelled our organisation forward. His knack for understanding our needs and finding the right talent to meet those needs has been truly top-notch. Unfortunately, due to recent restructuring and a strategic reset at Unity, Jack is now in the position of seeking new opportunities. His departure represents a significant loss for our team, and personally, I am deeply saddened to see such a valued colleague and friend leave. Truly, I'm gutted. But maybe our loss is your gain? If anyone in my network is in need of a top-tier recruitment specialist, I cannot recommend Jack highly enough. He is, without a doubt, the right person to elevate your talent acquisition efforts.

Ali Parr liked thisAli Parr liked thisA little late for this update 🎮 After graduation I was incredibly fortunate to receive FTE offers- from Amazon Web Services (AWS) Amazon and PlayStation . And I chose to come back to PlayStation✌️ After an incredible year here as a Software Engineering Intern, I’m excited to share that I’ve officially joined Sony Interactive Entertainment as a full-time Software Engineer! Huge thanks to my team, manager, director and VP. My internship at PlayStation was much more than just an internship. I got to work on fun and meaningful engineering problems, learn from some incredibly talented people, and most importantly, found a team and an environment where I genuinely enjoyed the work I was doing. So when it came time to choose where I wanted to start the next chapter of my career, coming back felt right. It’s also a little surreal looking back. Two years ago, I left my job at Microsoft, moved to a new country, and started my Master’s at USC without knowing exactly where that decision would take me. Microsoft → USC → PlayStation intern → PlayStation full-time. Definitely not a path I could have predicted, but one I’m incredibly grateful for. Thank you to everyone who supported me, mentored me, and believed in me along the way. Excited for this next chapter! 🎮❤️ Back where I wanted to be this time, full-time. #PlayStation #SonyInteractiveEntertainment #SoftwareEngineering #AWS #USC

Ali Parr reacted on thisAli Parr reacted on thisAt the House of Mouse today for meetings. Walking these hallowed halls brings all the feels. So many of the seminal movies, characters and stories I grew up loving were born here, or now call this place home. It’s impossible not to feel humbled by the history, a lot of joy in being here, and genuinely privileged to have a reason to walk through these doors. Especially when the conversation is about what the next generation of storytelling and production might look like. #Intangible

Ali Parr liked thisThese days I get really nostalgic for the people that I worked with, who I truly, truly adored and admired. My time at Twitter was one of the best times of my career, and the friends I made at Twitter are still some of my best friends today. It was a remarkable place to work, and it was a remarkable platform that, in a more innocent time, was incredibly fun. I learned so much there: about marketing, about pressure, about managing people. I tried to capture the lessons we all learned marketing to developers in my best-selling marketing book, "Picks & Shovels."

💰 An astonishing $161 BILLION traded hands in the games business last year...but given the lingering questions (and lurking suitors) around the Warner Bros deal - should we hit pause for a sec? First...because there are a few M&A estimates out there, to keep things apple'd up, I'm going to stick with Drake Star's reports. Here are the last few years' numbers, for context (my understanding is that these numbers include both M&A and financing deals, but if I'm wrong about that, I'm sure someone will clarify): 2025 = $161 BB (759 Transactions) 2024 = $27.3 BB (967 Transactions) 2023 = $86 BB (913 Transactions) (reports linked in chat) A few quick takeaways from the report (nod to PocketGamer for the summary in their article...also linked in chat): ⭐ The bulk of that $161 BB was from two deals: ✨ $55BB for EA's new situation ✨ $82.7BB to cover Netflix's acquisition of Warner Bros. ⭐ Private financing was primarily in Ai and mobile. ⭐ The expected activity focus in 2026 is Ai, UGC, tools & tech platforms. Cool...but let's focus on that first one. It makes total sense to include EA here...it's unique (unprecedented?), but I doubt you'll find many who would disagree about it being listed in the report, and for full value of the deal. Warner though... 1️⃣ Just this morning, it was reported that Paramount is suing WB over its deal with Netflix, claiming that their board lacked transparency throughout the process, and that their offer ($30/share) is better than Netflix's offer ($27.75/share). Additionally, Deadline reported today that Trump is putting his "thumb down hard on the scales" to opposs the Netflix deal. This story doesn't seem over to me. 2️⃣ Also...while Netflix is only interested in WB's TV and movie studios (and HBO), Paramount wants all of it. That last point...see anything about gaming in there? You do not...that's because, at least with regard to Netflix, there is a $0 valuation of WB's gaming interests in their offer. So...it's not an executed deal yet, and there are zero dollars in Netflix's offer attributed to gaming...yet we're counting the full value of the proposed acquisition into the 2025 gaming M&A tally? Maybe that's just how it's done. However, the Microsoft / Activision Blizzard deal was included in the 2023 report (not attributed to 2022, when the acquisition was announced/proposed). Maybe it doesn't matter. I mean...it doesn't matter, not really. It's just me nitpicking about research and analysis that other people did. I didn't do a damn thing but question it. I'm basically The Little Red Hen here (for all those fable lovers out there)... All that aside, things look like they're pointing in the right direction. Drake Star's outlook, which I'm inclined to agree with, is relatively rosy. I'm cautiously optimistic. ...but take a look for yourself (report in chat).
