We spoke to Andreas Burghart at embedded world Exhibition&Conference 2026 about Digi International's ConnectCore 95 and how they’re approaching system-on-modules as a full end-to-end solution. The demo shows an AI-based industrial inspection system running on-device, classifying products in real time using CPU, MPU, and NPU options, with additional acceleration available via external hardware. The system connects to Digi’s cloud platform, where data can be monitored, analysed, and used to retrain models, before securely deploying updates back to devices in the field. It includes built-in security, over-the-air updates, and device management as part of the platform, rather than leaving that to the developer. Wi-Fi 6E support also enables more reliable communication in dense environments like factories and hospitals. The system runs multiple edge AI use cases on Qualcomm's Qualcomm Dragonwing hardware, including defect detection across multiple camera feeds, PPE monitoring, and a large language model querying factory data in real time.
