We bring people and dogs together to help make life possible in so many extraordinary ways.

About us

We’re Dogs for Good. We help people connect with dogs, because we know the life-changing differences these connections can make. We support individuals, families and groups with disabilities or diverse needs that make accessing the world around them incredibly difficult. By understanding each person and dog we work with, we aim to find the solution that benefits both. Whether through carefully matched partnerships or tailored training and activities, together they’re able to build the confidence, independence and skills that can make everyday life possible in so many ways. We know that dogs can open doors, build connections, and bring families and communities together. Every day we see dogs helping people feel more included, valued and empowered. And our years of groundbreaking work have shown us how to make the most of the unique bond that we share with them.

  • Before Reco, the world felt overwhelming for Jenson. Jenson is autistic and happiest in the safety of home. New places, unfamiliar situations and sensory overload could make everyday outings incredibly difficult for him and his family. His parents, Sarah and Tom, were keen to help Jenson discover a world that felt more accessible and safe. That’s when they discovered Dogs for Good and began exploring the idea of an autism assistance dog. To mark #NationalAutismDay, and #AutismAwarenessMonth, we’re sharing Jenson and Reco’s story and the difference the right partnership can make for families navigating autism. Alongside our assistance dog partnerships, our Family Dog workshops help families explore how their own pet dog can support connection, confidence and everyday life, including for children with autism. 👉 Learn more about the programme here: https://bit.ly/4jtH0Hk #AutismSupport #AutismAcceptance

  • Veterinary medicines are carefully developed and authorised. Their labels contain important safety information for pet owners as well as for animals. Instructions may include guidance on handling, storage, hygiene, and when to seek further advice. Taking a moment to read and follow them helps reduce avoidable risks in the home. Through Paws to Protect, @NOAH is supporting improved understanding of responsible veterinary medicine use. Because following instructions doesn’t just protect pets: it keeps you safe too. • 16.8 million people in the UK live with a disability, and many report their well-being as "lower on average" than non-disabled people. Our Community Dog programme aims to help address this challenge by bringing the unique connection between people and dogs into community and healthcare settings. For 13 years, Julia has been part of that work as a Community Dog handler, alongside Georgie, a golden retriever whose warmth and enthusiasm can transform a session from the moment she walks in. 💡 Community Dog sessions are always person-centred and often delivered alongside healthcare professionals. They might focus on: - improving fine motor skills - building speech and language - reducing isolation - helping someone feel confident enough to step back into their community Often, it’s the simplest moments that make the biggest difference. A walk, a café visit, or simply spending time with a dog can help someone take a step they didn’t feel ready for before. As demand grows, the role of community-based programmes like this has never been more important. To learn more about the programme: https://bit.ly/3CZLpkK #SocialImpact #CommunitySupport

  • What if supporting a future assistance dog could fit around your working week? 🐾 Before Reco became a life-changing autism assistance dog, volunteers helped him build the confidence and everyday life skills he needed for his future role. One of those steps was time with a temporary boarding family. These volunteers welcome dogs in training into their homes during evenings and weekends, while the dogs attend training at our Banbury centre during the day. It’s a flexible way for working professionals to volunteer. You enjoy the companionship of a dog outside work hours while helping prepare them for their future partnership 💚 Our expert trainers guide you throughout, and we cover food and vet bills. Could you help the next dog take their next step towards changing someone’s life? Find out more about becoming a temporary boarder: https://bit.ly/40kwKJ6 #Volunteer #DogLovers

Huge congratulations to Sterling, who won Assistance Dog of the Year for his partnership with Katy Deacon at The Empowerment Awards held at the Emirates stadium last night! It takes a huge amount of resource to socialise, board and train one of our dogs. We see the way they are making life possible for people every single day, but it's amazing to see this being recognised in such a high profile way! So pleased for you Katy and to see your wonderful children receiving an award too - what a night it must have been for you! 💚

Last night at the Emirates Stadium was a powerful reminder of what community and inclusion truly look like. I was deeply privileged to be named Disability Personality of the Year at The Empowerment Awards last year, but this year’s ceremony held a different kind of magic. I attended the ceremony with my husband Scott Deacon and our two children. It was really freeing to be attending without being a finalist. I was there for the celebration of the brilliant work being done to improve things for everyone. However, my children (aged 16 and 12) were finalists and I’m incredibly proud—and a bit overwhelmed—to share that they were named Young Carers of the Year. A truly fitting recognition of their hard work each day 👏 The beauty of these awards lies in their total inclusivity, recognizing every individual who supports the lives of those living with a disability. To top off an already emotional night, my superstar assistance dog, Sterling, won Assistance Dog of the Year! 🐾 A massive thank you to Terri-Louise Brown and the entire team for hosting such a fantastic and necessary event. It was wonderful to catch up with Isaac Harvey MBE, Scott Whitney, Kris Foster, and so many other inspiring advocates. Congratulations to all the nominees and winners! #EmpowermentAwards #DisabilityInclusion #YoungCarers #AssistanceDog #Accessibility #InclusionMatters #EmiratesStadium Dogs for Good Huddersfield New College

  • It was great to be at the Case Management Society UK conference today, talking about our work to healthcare professionals about the positive connections that dogs can bring in enabling people to lead more independent lives. Through today’s connections we hope even more people can be signposted to see how Dogs for Good can support them.

  • The biggest regret for Puppy Socialiser Debbie? “Not becoming one sooner.” Debbie and her husband Sam are currently socialising Nancy, helping give her the care, love and everyday experiences she needs before beginning her training to become a life-changing dog. For many of our volunteers, the experience is about more than raising a puppy. It’s about being part of something bigger: helping a dog grow into a partner who will support someone to live with greater confidence, independence and connection. Along the way, they’ve also found themselves part of a supportive community of volunteers and trainers who share the same purpose. If Debbie’s story has inspired you, explore the different ways you could get involved with us 👉 https://bit.ly/4s7czdW #CommunitySupport #Volunteering #AssistanceDog

We were delighted to welcome Sean Woodcock MP for Banbury to Dogs for Good HQ on Friday. There were some great conversations about the positive impact that dogs make to people's lives and how our work is supporting people in Sean's community. Sean also heard from Martha Hall, a Dogs for Good partnership who spoke at length about how her assistance dog Greg has helped her to feel connected to her local community and enabled her to feel that she has a brighter, more independent future ahead of her.

  • We are incredibly proud of Martha Hall for talking in such an eloquent and personal way at the recent Nuffield Trust Annual Summit. In Martha's own words, 'My dog Greg and I are now permanently housed in a home that meets our needs. A massive weight has been lifted and I feel like I can breathe again.' What an honour and privilege it is to have spoken about Housing and Health at the Nuffield Trust Annual Summit. Being surrounded by such welcoming, wonderful, and passionate people made this whole experience a joy! Thank you to everyone who admired Greg from afar, laughed at my jokes, and listened to my story. Thank you to my incredible fellow panelists Lauren Walker, Ansaf Azhar, Nnenna Osuji, our chair Holly Holder, and everyone at the NT who enabled me to tell my story with dignity and respect. This panel was a Greg-cellent way to spread the word about Housing Without Delay, led by Foundations and The Royal College of Occupational Therapy. You can learn more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/dUXe6pQv
Lastly, thank you to my boy, Greg, for picking up after me, stealing hearts, and helping me make new connections. He’s the best wing-man! 💚 To hear about how Greg changed my life, watch: https://lnkd.in/diNQzu9N If you would like to find out more about Dogs for Good visit: https://lnkd.in/d2sg4eCJ #ntsummit #housingwithoutdelay #housingandhealth #dogsforgooduk
