Hello twitterdachi! There’s a certain kind of foreigner In japan, that wants to belong so badly that they become incredibly angry with any other long-term resident here who is critical of the country. In my case, I’m constantly subtweeted on the Twitter wasteland (x) by one

I aspire to be Family Mart Man—because if you’re a living in Japan, we’re all family. Cap. Shirt. Socks. I said I’d support the store that says no to racism. I did not say I’d do it tastefully. I now look like a vending machine that walks. Nationality is a construct. Family is

To get a permanent residency in Japan, you have to earn much more than either of these lowball figures. Because you can’t be as poor as a Japanese person to live here and the government has an incredible disdain for the poor. Because they don’t make large corporate contributions.

Japan's gov says a livable income for a single-person household is ¥126,330 (~$789) a month. Jichiroren, the federation of local-government workers' unions, says it's more than double: ¥290K (~$1,811), or ¥1,900 (~$11.87) an hour. Japan's minimum wage is ¥1,121 ($7.01).

Well, #TokyoVice was published in 2009. It took me another 11 years to write the sequel which was #TokyoNoir. This year in February, my nemesis, the role model for Tozawa, died. Read the book. You'll know why I'm not sad. Thanks to @LeeofLeeLand for a concise and kind review.

Tokyo Noir by @jakeadelstein 5/5⭐️ A smooth page turning and enlightening read only a man who worked decades in journalism could deliver on the workings of Yakuza, Nuclear Power, The Olympics, Journalism, and having Cancer all in Japan. James Patterson couldn’t dream this up.

Japan wants foreign talent—and then does everything possible to make foreigners leave. It’s not logical but it’s politically practical. And it’s stupid. But Japan Inc. never learns. 🧑🏻‍🔬 During COVID, Japan basically shut itself off from the non-Japanese world for two years,
