It’s a tale as old as time that whenever Rockstar Games has worked on a GTA game, the space ... (2/8)... between its announcement and its release date has been littered with leaks. And, as we have seen with GTA 6 thus far, that hasn’t changed after all these years. For that reason, when I found out GTA 6 was ditching the disc in favor of code-in-box physical editions, ... (3/8)... I could sense the undertone of Rockstar’s fear of leaks in the decision. Anyone from miles away could have seen that such a big call would antagonize longtime fans, but the American developer still went ahead with it. Indeed, there was a massive outcry among gamers ... (4/8)after the news broke out. In fact, concerns around game preservation and ownership are still being voiced out loud in social media channels. Contrastingly, the total silence from Rockstar on the matter has been deafening. (5/8)Being arguably the most awaited game of 2026 gives some leeway, but the sheer indifference to fan backlash suggests the Take-Two subsidiary is determined to see the move through. You could argue Rockstar Games is no longer being risk-averse with GTA 6 but instead ... (6/8)... taking it up a notch and being risk-phobic. However, is the studio really overreacting by doing this? A good look at its past struggles with leaks shows that the Rockstar we know today—the one whose headquarters could be labeled as the Fort Knox of gaming—wasn’t ... (7/8)... always like this. Major leaks time and again have increasingly pushed it to mitigate such risks as much as possible. And, the decision to go discless with GTA 6 is perhaps rooted in that very approach.
