Loic Amado reposted thisLoic Amado reposted thisI’m deeply honored to share that I’ve joined the Board of Trustees of Mara Elephant Project, whose mission is "Protecting elephants and their habitats across the Greater Mara Ecosystem". Elephants are a keystone species in the Maasai Mara, and MEP’s work in protecting elephants, supporting rangers, and partnering closely with local communities, is essential to enabling true coexistence between people and nature. This integrated approach strongly resonates with AB Entheos Ltd., where our mission is "Resilient communities thriving in nature". I couldn’t be more excited to support an organization that so powerfully embodies this philosophy. Late last year, I had the privilege of spending several days in the Mara. I toured MEP’s high-tech headquarters, engaging with its extraordinary team, and even spending a day in the field alongside rangers. Experiencing frontline conservation firsthand was both humbling and inspiring, and it deepened my appreciation for the courage, commitment, and innovation driving this mission. I’m grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such a dedicated group of leaders, including Marc Goss, Beatrice Karanja, Kevin Rodrigues, Loic Amado, Teddy Kinyanjui and many others! I look forward to contributing to the continued protection of elephants and the communities and landscapes they depend on. This work is truly mission-critical.

What made it special wasn’t just who walked in, but also why now. Because across the US right now: - Gas prices are back above $4/gallon in several regions - Some cities, especially in California, are seeing significantly higher prices - Commuting costs are rising again for everyday Americans At the same time in New York: - Bikes are often the fastest way to get around - Most daily trips are under 3 miles - The city continues to invest in safer bike infrastructure At some point, it just becomes the obvious choice. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress thank you so much for stopping by, checking out the workshop, and taking the Specialized Globe Haul ST for a ride. Great to capture this moment together with one of our co-founders Stéphane Ficaja. Do you know that we are open 6 days a week (soon 7) if you want to come buy and test an e-Bike. Loic Amado liked thisLoic Amado liked thisWe almost didn’t invest in a potato company. Not because potatoes are boring... Let’s be honest, everyone loves potatoes. Fries, chips, mash, crisps… they’re undefeated. The only controversial thing about potatoes is how people pretend they’re not obsessed. We passed on Foke the first time. Their application felt incomplete. Not enough attention to detail. It didn’t signal seriousness. To their credit, they didn’t argue. They asked why. Then they reapplied. Night and day. Clear thinking. Tight execution. Details dialed in. Since then, they’ve been relentlessly on top of things. That’s when it clicked: this isn’t just a potato business. It’s a discipline business. Kevin Kiprotich founder of Foke Suppliers is building fast, fresh, traceable, ready-to-cook potatoes for a market that already loves the product but hasn’t been served well. Simple idea. Hard execution. Exactly the kind of "boring" we like. Excited to back a team that took feedback, leveled up, and proved they’re serious. Turns out, the real signal wasn’t the first application. It was what they did afterwards. Welcome to Kuzana! To find out where your chips come from, meet Foke at the Kuzana Finale April 8th online or in person. Link below 👇

Kenya has become the continent’s fastest-growing market due to a powerful alignment among government, local manufacturers, ride-hailing platforms, and innovative financial institutions like M-KOPA. The success is also driven by inclusive financing, energy-as-a-service infrastructure, and strategic policy that make electric motorcycles more affordable. M-KOPA has played a leading role in Kenya when it comes to affordability, becoming the leading financier in the country with over 5,000 bikes on the road. Loic Amado liked thisLoic Amado liked thisWe’ve been named among the best! Earlier this month, Condé Nast Traveler named Kenya as one of the best destinations to visit this July (something we couldn’t agree with more). Within Kenya, they spotlighted our Asilia camps, Naboisho and Rekero, as leading lodges for travellers to visit. And it’s no wonder. Naboisho offers not only an abundance of wildlife, but also a deeply immersive, community-led conservation experience. Rekero, on the other hand, carries a rich legacy, deeply rooted in the traditional Kenyan safari experience. For travellers seeking safaris that are as meaningful as they are adventurous, Kenya continues to set the benchmark. Loic Amado liked thisLoic Amado liked thisThere’s a growing question around how the world will keep moving. As global tensions rise, so does uncertainty around fuel: its cost, its availability, and its reliability. And it’s forcing a shift in how we think about mobility. For decades, transport has depended on systems far beyond our control, including global supply chains, external pricing, and unpredictable disruptions. When those systems are strained, the impact is immediate on businesses, riders, and entire economies. But there’s another path. And it’s already here. A shift toward mobility powered closer to home. More predictable, built for the environments it serves. That’s what electric mobility offers: Greater control over operating cost, reduced reliance on imported fuel, and energy solutions that can be developed locally. This isn’t just about sustainability, but about building transport systems that are resilient by design. At Roam, this has always been the focus. Designing electric motorcycles for African roads, building around real rider needs, and creating systems that work not just today, but long-term. Because the future of transport won’t be defined by uncertainty. It will be defined by what we choose to build instead.

We have been working with the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) and other Namibian ecosystem players since 2024 to understand the opportunity for startups to list on the @NSX Development Capital Board (DCB). It is specifically designed for companies that have potential without being profitable yet, such as startups and early-stage ventures. The listing requirements on the DCB are significantly reduced compared to the Main Board, allowing younger companies to access public capital markets earlier. Our engagements last week were refreshing to say the least, and encouraging to see the opportunity presented to the startups in Namibia. Great to see more investment flowing into African early-stage startups that are enabling the scaling of green and innovative solutions. Equally encouraging is the growing number of impact investors providing venture-building support to help these startups turn promising ideas into sustainable businesses. A New Dawn for Nairobi’s CBD: The Iconic Plaza Hotel is Open! Formerly Laico Regency Hotel. The heartbeat of Nairobi’s Central Business District just got a major boost. With the official opening of the Iconic Plaza Hotel, we aren't just seeing a new building on the skyline, we’re witnessing the strategic revival of downtown Nairobi as a premier destination for business and luxury. For a long time, the narrative has been about the "flight to the suburbs." But the Iconic Plaza is flipping the script. Here is how this landmark development is set to transform our city: 1. Reclaiming the MICE Powerhouse Nairobi is Africa’s leading hub for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE). By bringing world-class, tech-ready plenary halls and boardroom suites back to the CBD, the Iconic Plaza provides a high-end alternative right next to the KICC. This reduces transit times for international delegates and breathes new life into the "city under the sun" as a conference capital. 2. Elevating "244 Quality Beds and Nights Quantity is one thing; quality is another. The CBD has long needed an infusion of modern, 5-star inventory to compete with Westlands and Upper Hill. The Iconic Plaza introduces luxury suites and premium service standards that ensure high-value corporate travelers and tourists stay in the heart of the city, boosting the local ecosystem from retail to dining. 3. Economic Catalyst for the CBD A hotel of this caliber creates a massive ripple effect. Beyond direct employment, it increases footfall for surrounding businesses and signals to investors that Nairobi’s historic center is a viable, vibrant zone for high-end commerce. Nairobi is evolving, and it’s exciting to see the CBD reclaiming its status as a sophisticated hub for global travelers. #Nairobi #Hospitality #MICE #TourismKenya #IconicPlaza #InvestInKenya #BusinessTravel #NairobiCBD

Embracing Nature as a Financial Titan: Valuing Ecosystems as Infrastructure As we navigate the complexities of the global economy, a transformative vision is emerging—one that redefines growth, investment, and public finance through the lens of climate change and environmental sustainability. This vision calls for institutional investors and governments, especially in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs), to recognize and integrate the vital role of ecosystems into financial systems. The Crossroad of Transition In today’s world, the very fabric of economic activity is woven tightly with the benefits provided by nature. However, these ecosystem services, which include carbon sequestration, flood control, soil fertility, and pollination, remain largely unrecognized in national accounting systems. This invisibility poses significant risks: - Underinvestment in Nature: Without proper valuation, investment in nature-based solutions (NbS) is severely lacking. - Fiscal Strain: Governments face fiscal stress as they fail to leverage natural assets for generating revenue or reducing borrowing costs. - Unpriced Financial Risks; Institutional investors are exposed to hidden risks as portfolios do not account for the degradation of these valuable services. - Fiduciary Disconnect: The gap between fiduciary responsibilities and economic sustainability widens as nature's value remains unaccounted. Visionary Shift: Nature as Infrastructure This policy proposal advocates for a paradigm shift backed by the G20, urging stakeholders to recognize and value ecosystems as productive public assets. By treating ecosystems as economic infrastructure, we open new avenues for fiscal innovation and investment strategies: - Incorporation into Financial Systems; Incorporate ecosystems into national accounting and sovereign balance sheets to unlock innovative fiscal tools and create investable nature-based solutions. - Alignment with Sustainability Mandates; Enable capital allocation to align seamlessly with fiduciary duties while embracing sustainability. - Strategic Nature-based Investments: Encouraging deliberate investment in nature not only propels economic resilience but also fosters a sustainable environment. The future of global finance is intertwined with the state of our ecosystems. Institutionalizing ecological services and positioning them as cornerstone assets of public investment offers a strategic opportunity to address both present challenges and future uncertainties. Together, let's champion the cause for visible value, ensuring that the true worth of nature is recognized and integrated into the global economic framework. http://bit.ly/3TcQRoR Credit : Dr. Hubert Danso Repost by : Salem Bagami #Sustainability #EconomicTransformation #NatureFinance #G20 #EcosystemServices #InvestmentRevolution

Tourism: The 10-Year Outlook: Why Glamping Wins Glamping is South Africa’s fastest-growing tourism sector, projected to dominate through 2035. While traditional hotels struggle with high overheads, glamping capitalizes on the country’s most undervalued asset: The Big Quiet. The Shift: Travelers are trading generic luxury for "sophisticated isolation." The Growth: Outpacing traditional hospitality by 11% annually, it leverages low-impact, high-adaptability infrastructure. The Profile: "Quiet Luxury" Seekers The target is no longer the "camper," but the High-Net-Worth Urbanite fleeing burnout. The Hook: A "digital detox" without sacrificing premium comfort. The Vibe: Instagrammable solitude, high-thread-count linens, and soul-connection. The Partner: GoGlamping.co.za GoGlamping transforms "sleeping land" into high-yield assets. They provide the Business-in-a-Box: bespoke luxury pods and safari tents engineered for the local climate and the "Quiet Luxury" aesthetic. The Farmer’s "Gold Mine": The New Cash Crop Landowners are pivoting to glamping as the most predictable "crop" of the future. Recession-Proof: Unlike maize or citrus, "Tourism Yield" isn’t hit by drought, pests, or global commodity fluctuations. Marginal Land, Massive Returns: Converting just 1–2 hectares of non-arable land (cliffs, riverfronts, or ridges) can generate higher net profits than 100 hectares of traditional crops. Low Input, High Harvest: With 60-70% margins, it’s a high-yield harvest requiring no fertilizer or diesel—only a view and a world-class bed. The Bottom Line: For the next 10 years, the most valuable hectare on a farm won’t be the one growing grain; it will be the one growing silence.

Airbnb, Uber, and the Future of the Platform Economy in South Africa The recent debates around Airbnb regulation echo the earlier conflicts we saw with Uber and the taxi industry. Those clashes were often marked by fear and confrontation rather than adaptation. Yet what they really revealed was not just competition between companies, but the emergence of the platform economy, a shift as profound as any industrial revolution. Airbnb’s rise in South Africa is part of this broader transformation. Fedhasa has called for tighter regulation to ensure compliance with industry standards, including the Liquor Act. Regulation is important. We need accountability and fairness. But, just as Uber did not end public transport, Airbnb has not halted hotel growth. In fact, in Cape Town, hotels continue to expand and perform strongly, serving a distinct market from short-term rental platforms. These are different models meeting different needs: Hotels cater to business travelers, luxury tourism, and those seeking consistency. Airbnb attracts guests looking for alternative spaces, local immersion, longer stays, self-catering and flexibility. Instead of treating this as a zero-sum battle, the real opportunity lies in collaboration. Hotels, Airbnb hosts, and regulators can work together to create a more resilient tourism ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders. We are in the midst of a platform-era transformation, comparable to past industrial shifts. Times change, and our industries must adapt rather than resist. I would welcome perspectives from across the hospitality and tourism sector: How do you see regulation, innovation, and collaboration shaping the future of our industry in South Africa? #Hospitality #Tourism #Airbnb #Uber #SouthAfrica #PlatformEconomy

A New Radisson Hotel Group Nairobi Airport: Is 2027 the Year JKIA Becomes East Africa’s Hospitality Hub? Exciting news for Nairobi and East Africa’s hospitality market: a new Radisson Hotel Group Hotel Nairobi Airport is set to open near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in mid-2027. With 200 rooms, it will be the first Radisson property at JKIA, offering an all-day dining restaurant, lobby bar, gym, and pool. Its prime location, just minutes from the airport and near Nairobi National Park, makes it ideal for both business and leisure travelers. This is not just a hotel opening, it is a statement. The convenience and quality offered at the airport may shift travelers who normally head into Westlands or the city center. Is there a trend emerging here with both Radisson and Marriott planning new properties at JKIA in 2027? Are investors and operators aiming to capture travelers at the source before they even leave the airport perimeter? For investors, developers, and hospitality professionals, this signals a new opportunity. Nairobi’s airport corridor is becoming a key battleground for international brands. The question is whether convenience and premium amenities at the airport will redefine where business, transit, and leisure travelers choose to stay. East Africa’s hospitality market is evolving rapidly, and 2027 could mark the start of a new era where the airport is the ultimate destination, not just a gateway.

If you want to understand where the largest pools of local capital sit in Kenya, look no further than the corporate ecosystem. Early this week, I participated in a workshop at Britam's BetaLab, hosted by Dream VC’s Mark Kleyner, who underscored this profound insight: in a less mature market where Family Offices often prioritize stability and invest conservatively, the corporate ecosystem becomes the primary engine for local funding. This is the inflection point we've been waiting for. The 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 (𝗖𝗩𝗖) model offers founders a unique, accelerated pathway: While founders may accept lower initial valuations, the tangible upside is immense as they gain immediate value, access to corporate client bases, and rapid product validation. Founders are capturing genuine value through strategic partnerships and infrastructure, sooner than they would through pure equity investment models. This structure provides a powerful dual return for the corporate: 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲-𝗔𝗱𝗱, solving a core business problem. This is how we build a resilient, funded ecosystem: by ensuring every investment offers both strategic value to the corporation and necessary infrastructure to the startup #TheFutureIsHere
