Notes
FeedCity is an RSS reader by Daniel Pietzsch
Features
- no unread count
- feed support: RSS, Atom, JSON
- h-feed (microformats) support tbd
- sign-in with your own site with web-signin, RelMeAuth (email is also supported)
- demo'd a feed for IndieWebCamp Berlin made up of feeds of participants
- https://feed.city/c/dan/l/IWC+BER+2025
- lists can me made from many feeds and republished
- like a Favorites feed of must-read feeds.
- can export via OPML, too
- pages for individual feeds include icons of what that site / feed supports.
- websub
- webmentions
- when not signed-in, shows summaries of posts to encourage going to the original website
- filtering by posts with video, audio
- bookmarks saved via bookmarklet, iOS shortcut.
- email feature! if the feed contains a contact email, posts have a mailto: button to start an email to them!
Daniel uses it as his podcast client. Bookmarks posts with audio, follows that feed in a podcast app.

- Question: can you search feed content? A: not yet
- Q: How does polling work? Paginated? A: yes, paginated. Originally planned an endless scroll but concerned about endless scrolling. Pages rendered server-side.
- Q: JSONFeed? Like RSS2JSON service? A: https://www.jsonfeed.org/
- Q: Feature requests? A: On the wiki page: https://indieweb.org/FeedCity
- Q: Native app? A: works as a PWA saved to home screen.
- Q: Notifications from the PWA? A: seems possible. interested in this for must-read feeds.
- Q: from Daniel to the audience: do you use feed readers? how?
- tantek: sets the up but then falls out of the habit.
- jo: FreshRSS self-hosted, but server resources are tough.
- martymcguire: uses indie readers (https://alltogethernow.io/, https://monocle.p3k.io/) and they have many good features but are also missing some stuff I would like!
- capjamesg: had his own reader, but doesn't use one now. likes the email feature a lot!
