Attended a hands-on workshop by Anthropic on Claude Code—covering how it works, how to build solutions, and applying it through hackathon-style exercises. Big takeaway: We’re moving from prompt engineering → system design. 💡 • LLMs are becoming tool-using systems 🛠️ • MCP enables structured interaction with tools & workflows 🔗 • Focus is shifting from generating → reasoning + execution ⚙️ Most enterprises still use AI in isolation. Real value comes when models interact with APIs, data, and workflows—and outputs are reliable and traceable 📊 The differentiator isn’t the model anymore. It’s how you design the system around it. 🏗️

Highlights from the day: ✨ Official Campus tour with my daughter Keelyn, who’s hoping to be a student in UCC in future. 👣 Our own personal tour guide in Stephen Treacy , who showed us the impressive medical, pharmacy and sports facilities. 📊 Had to opportunity to meet the Director of Analytics, JB McCarthy PhD to hear about UCC’s collaboration with the Irish & Italian central banks — innovative work on using data to assess regulatory compliance. A fascinating initiative from an ECB perspective. 🎤 Finally I presented to the hugely impressive MSc cohort on topics including: • Analytical thinking • Personal brand • Generative AI • Ethics …drawing on 30 years across banking, consulting and the European Central Bank 🤝 And a bonus — bumping into old friend and proud Cork man Anthony Gaffney.
