During CES 2026, NVIDIA officially unveils its latest supersampling technology with DLSS 4.5. The company officially confirmed it on opening day of the event, despite many leaking it prior to the event. DLSS 4 was introduced a year ago, but the amount of improvements and the scale of availability will grow massively with DLSS 4.5. Over 250 games and applications are supported with DLSS, as it uses AI to improve both image quality and performance for gamers. The big highlight is that those with RTX 50 Series cards have a path for path tracing at over 240+ FPS with these tools.
New Tools Being Introduced
NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 will bring Dynamic Multi Frame Generation along with a new tier for its Multi Frame Generation mode as it will now go up to six times the frame rate. When combining these two, it will allow for over 240 frames per second to go along with the RTX Path Tracing that the RTX 50 series is able to offer. There is currently a beta version of the NVIDIA app where users can jump in early to try this out. There will be a full release of the tools on January 13th.

DLSS 4.5 will be available for all RTX users. This release is the first major upgrade to NVIDIA's transformer architecture. You may have seen in some games where there is an option to turn on the transformer model for DLSS. This is what that option is referring to in those games. The latest update to the transformer model will utilize five times the computing power of the original version as it has a deeper understanding of every scene. It will also use game engine pixel sampling more intelligently, along with motion data improvements to deliver images with better lighting, edging and overall motion clarity.
NVIDIA is stating that DLSS 4.5 is the biggest breakthrough in lighting that the technology has ever seen. It solves a an old issue that occurred using both Temporal Anti-Aliasing and earlier versions of DLSS. Issues such as muted lighting, clipped details and crushed shadows will be removed thanks to the ability for the new model to manage instability without compressing the data. It will accumulate lighting with physical accuracy that will be seen in glowing neon and bright reflections thus resulting in a full color range and detail.

Specific Improvements to RTX 50 Series Cards
DLSS 4.5 will bring improvements to all RTX series cards, but the latest 50 series will see a leap in smoothness with the new 6x Mode for Multi Frame Generation. The 2nd gen transformer model allows for even better image stability and frame pacing that can generate five additional frames for every single natively rendered one.This will allow for the smoothest path-traced gameplay to date. Frame rates in 4K resolution with path tracing will improve up to 35% while combining the NVIDIA Reflex low latency technology will mean minimal impact on input lag.
The latest update will also enhance in-game user interfaces across the board. This is done by incorporating additional game engine data and improving visual quality of the static interface. For example, crisper minimaps on games and better menus and overlays. This will allow for a cleaner overall aesthetic to supported games.




Dynamic Multi Frame Generation will maximize the frame rate to the monitor refresh rate allowing for the top performance of that display. It will basically fill in the gaps on any title. Games that will benefit from this will include the likes of Borderlands 4, Cronos: The New Dawn, Expedition 33, and basically any major single player game.
The tech will continuously monitor the gap between the GPU's performance and your current display's maximum refresh rate. It will "upshift" and increase frame gen dynamically to bridge those dips, so that you no longer have dips. It will compute the bare minimum under less intense areas, so everything can be stable. No longer will you need to worry about running out of a cave and losing 30 FPS.
